Photo Walk Description
Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010
The FLICKR group is http://www.flickr.com/groups/2010nappnycphotowalk/
Due to a huge waiting list for the Kelby sponsored Photowalk, and the many inquiries regarding additional Photowalks, the schedule for additional Scenes of New York Photowalks is now available online at: http://tinyurl.com/SoNYPhotowalks
Additional information is available at http://www.ScenesofNewYork.com
In the event of heavy rain, the group will relocate to Grand Central Station. Bring, or be prepared to purchase a metrocard if that happens!
The group will meet at the Columbus Circle Fountain, walk under the Trump globe then meander through Central Park, stopping at the boat pond, bridges and tunnels, exit the park at the Hayden Planetarium and walk down Columbus and Broadway to Lincoln Center.

Here are the answers to the FAQS:
No experience needed.
A $4 disposable camera would work as well as the latest greatest camera. In fact, maybe better because you can take risks with it you would not take with a $5k DSLR.
This is more about learning to see creatively, than the tech side of photography.
Everything in Central Park has been shot before, but not through your eyes. Come up with a theme or mission to force yourself to think creatively.
Something like:
Show your feet in every picture, but still have the picture offer a strong sense of place, or a “moment”. Could be a sock puppet, could be your hand….could be anything…does not have to be your feet…but the idea is then you start to think of how to show you are in Central Park and how your shoes might be interesting as part of that. Or you could try to show a sign or a name in every picture, perhaps take every picture from 5 inches off the ground…something to force you to see differently.
Travel light.
Less gear means more mobility and forces you to use what you have creatively
The schedule is for a three hour walk. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. At the three hour mark we should end up at the Lincoln Center Fountain. From there, if there is interest in folks grabbing a casual dinner, we can do that (separate checks? Split costs? Whatever) and then photowalk some more as the sun sets in Manhattan.
There will be a wide variety of skills with us. The best of them will make mistakes, and the newest will have happy accidents. Such is life.
ONE REQUEST: If you sign up, show up. We are limited to 50 people. Last year I turned away people, then had a few that did not show up for the walk. Not cool.
Also, check out www.ScenesofNewYork.com for other photowalks I lead (those walks are not sponsored by Scott Kelby and are a $50 charge).
Thanks, and for additional info, contact me at WWPW@ScenesofNewYork.com

I missed last years because I found out about it too late. I am glad I will be able to make it this year.
I registered to join the walk but did not receive confirmation. Please advise.

Ray Cangemie

Peter
Peter, you are all good. Looking forward to having with us.
Second time I will be joining a walk and look forward to it!
Whoo woo. I can’t wait. I missed last year because it was full.
Just came back from an important trip only to find out about the invite. Missed it the passed two years and likely the third one but still hoping to get in. Hoping to be part of an amazing experience.
Please remove me from the Columbus Circle walk. I will be out of town.
Thank you. Janice Wetzel
I know we spoke about this, but you must remove yourself. I have no ability to do so.
Thanks,
Jeff
I already sign up for the waiting list. I will be visiting NY after 5 years of absence. Hope I can make it into the walk. If not…have a great walk!!!!
Hey, I found another walk available, thanks anyways!!!!! have fun!!!!
Oops, never mind Jeff, I see myself on the list. See you then!
Weather current calls for rain on Saturday!
Remember, it is going to be HOT. Like record breaking hot. Like insanely hot.
If you can not make the walk, please cancel so another may join. There is a waiting list. No shows suck. Don’t be that person.
Bring less gear than you want to. Travel very light. Bring a watertight bag for your gear, because it could rain.
Bring, or be prepared to purchase water, or other items due to the EXTREME HEAT the forecast is calling for.
We are very likely to take a shorter, less strenuous route than what was previously planned, due to the heat. If at any time you feel that you are pushing yourself, stop and rest. Your safety comes first.
If it is pouring, we will be at the clock in Grand Central Terminal. My cell is 516 236 9277. Please don’t all 50 of you call at once. When I do these photowalks on my own, I limit to 10 people, so 50 is a lot.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and enjoying our day!
Best,
Jeff Mitchel

If you were able to make the walk, please join the group!
I had a wonderful time. Even though the heat got the best of me but I didn’t give up. Another plus was I learned something new about my camera. HA!
