Photo Walk Description

With over 1100 walks and more than 33,000 photographers participating in last years Worldwide Photo Walk, this years event promises to be even better.
I have been selected by the New York Botanical Zoological Photographic Society ( nybzps) to lead the Photo walk which will start at the main entrance of the of the New York Botanical Garden, which is located in the Bronx New York, directly across the street from Fordham University. Our walk will begin with a brief stroll eastward along Rock Garden Path and into an area which is named the Rock Garden. This location is a multi-hued oasis where alpine flowers and woodland plants meet a sparkling waterfall, and during the Fall season is ablaze with color.

After exiting the Rock Garden we will travel west, toward the Haupt Conservatory ( there will be a small fee for entry which is paid at the main gate), where at anytime of the year, and without having to bring you passport you can explore a tropical rain forest, a cactus -filled desert and an ever changing landscape of flowers and foliage. During our walk the New york Botanical Garden will be hosting an exhibit of the Fall Flowers of japan.

The walk is open to everyone with a camera, regardless of skill level.
This walk is limited to 50 participants, if that doesn’t sound like a lot, you haven’t seen 50 photographers coming down the sidewalk at the same time, and converging on a photographic opportunity, what a sight.

So, don’t delay in singing up for this walk, or any Worldwide Photo Walk.
This event is always a great social and photographic experience.

As a passionate photographer, member of the New York Botanical Zoological Photographic Society, and veteran photo walk, I offer the following promise — “YOU WILL ENJOY YOURSELF”–, and benefit from the experience.
Tips will be added as we begin the registration process, and will continue up to our walk day, also if it rains on Oct. 1st, the rain date will be Oct. 2nd at 10:00 am.

The New York Botanical Zoological Photographic Society was founded in 1953 by a group of interested in sharing their love of photography.
Since then, the same spirit of conviviality and mutual interest has shaped the present club.
The Club meets twice a month on Saturday mornings from September – June at Fordham Preparatory School (Room 243) on the Fordham University Campus, Bronx New York. Visitors are always welcomed.

Hello! What would be a good lens to bring? I only have a Tamron 18-270 VC (the older version) and a Tamron 17-50mm. I am open to buying a Canon 100mm L. This will be my first walk and I’m excited.

    Melinda

  4. Conrad Tinney says:

    Hi Melinda;
I am happy to see that someone is as excited about the up-coming Kelby photo walk, as I am. I would suggest that you take both lens along you never know, I think that it’s always better to have and not need, rather to not have and need it. During are walk, we will be in close proximity to most of the subjects which we will be making image of. So both lens will serve you well.

    Have a great weekend

  7. Raquel Gonzalez says:

Do we meet up at the entrance on Dr Kazimiroff? Is there parking available there?

  8. Conrad Tinney says:

We will meet at the main entrance, which is on Southern Blvd. across the street from Fordham University. Parking is available, but there is a fee, which is separate from the entrance fee. You can find street parking on the Fordham University side

    • Melinda Quizon says:

Conrad…is the main entrance the Conservatory Gate?

I will be coming from the Metro North Railway and I know there is a gate there called the Mosholu Gate.

      • Conrad Tinney says:

You are correct, the Metro-North stop is directly across from the Mosholu gate. You can enter there and walk through the garden past the conservatory to the main gate.

  10. Chris Lewis says:

Should we purchase a Grounds only ticket or an all-garden ticket OR are we meeting on the outside of the main gate?

    Thanks

  11. Lourdes Merson says:

    Hi Conrad,

I just wanted to know if the walk is still on for tomorrow because of the weather?
