Photo Walk Description

we are going to explore a little bit of the Harlem that I love! my name is verta. i am a mom. i am photographer by passion and an educator by profession. i am a proud harlem resident. i became a walk leader so that i can give back. i am looking forward to our journey together because each day should be about building…building new experiences, building new stories, building new memories and building life!

we will start our tour in the stunning Mount Morris Park District of Harlem (http://mmpcia.org/site/historic-district/). we will explore Marcus Garvey Park (http://www.east-harlem.com/parks_mg.htm) which should be a buzz with local events like a farmers’ market, a drummers’ circle and outdoor chess. we will even go to the top of the park, where the watch tower once stood, and capture the city from there (this will be a first for me too :) ! we will then travel down a few local city blocks to capture some of the amazing architecture that makes this part of Harlem legendary. we will also try to capture some of the excitement that is 125th Street and Lenox/Malcolm X Boulevard before relaxing and sharing some of our captures and experiences at Settepani (www.settepani.com), a local restaurant.

some tips for the walkers: bring your camera, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring your CHILDREN (under 16 accompanied by adult please) and last but not least, bring a smile and an open heart…i will!

Settepani has created a wonderful Prix Fix Menu for us!!!

    1. I am so happy each of you have decide to join me on this adventure!
    2. Remember to wear comfortable and appropriate shoes and clothing. It is a walk after all! The forecast is calling for sun and rain…oh to be a meteorologist! The rain plan is to shoot in the rain :)
    3. If you plan to drive, parking is pretty decent on all blocks surrounding Mount Morris/Marcus Garvey Park.
    4. If you are taking the subway, take the 2 or 3 train to 116 or 125 Street (shorter walk). Walk to 123 Street and head east until you get to the park. You can also take the 4,5 or 6 train to 125th street (longer walk). Walk to 124th street and head west until you get to the park.
    5. I set up a Flickr Group so we can share photographs after the walk. Please email me at emailverta@gmail.com and I will send you an invite to our group, Harlem Worldwide Photo Walk 2011. I think it would be great to see 5 of everyone’s favorite images from the day!
    6. Bring your camera and a smile because this is also a chance to meet new people!

    see you all soon,

    verta
