Photo Walk Description
Welcome! Come on out for a photographic exploration of Downtown New Westminster. It’s a great location with loads of interesting features and details to be discovered: people, shops, heritage buildings, trains, the waterfront, and “urban decay”.
The walk is open to everyone; whatever your experience. All you need is an interest in (or better yet a passion for) photography. You must register to take part.
The route takes us from the Riverfront Market (Westminster Quay), up over the pedestrian bridge to Columbia St. Then North-East up Columbia to 4th St. Back down towards the river and the Parkade/Antique Alley. Follow Front St back to the market where we will share our photos and finds over a coffee, or maybe a beer.
Pay-parking is available just West of the Market (very close to where we start) for $1.50 for 2 hours – bring change. Access the lot by turning off Columbia St down Begbie St, over the train tracks, a quick turn right and then follow beside the tracks past the Market. Turn left into the lot in front of the “Inn at the Quay” Hotel.
Accessible via the Skytrain Expo and Millenium lines; serving the Columbia Station (at 4th and Columbia).
If it’s raining the day of our photo walk please check back here for updates. We don’t have a backup rain day.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing you there!
Did I mention there’s a prize for the best photograph from our walk?

we will join the photo walk
Please click on the green button, top right above the map,
“Join This Photo Walk” to register. You’ll set-up an account,
answer a few questions and then “Join this Walk” to finish.
Thanks for joining and I look forward to meeting you.
To everyone who has joined: please feel free to join the Flickr group for this walk. After the walk we can share the images we took….
http://www.flickr.com/groups/newwestwalk2011/
It’s a public group so it should be easy to join.
Also, here is the link to Scott Kelby’s flickr page, where you can add up to 5 images a day taken during the walk. This is where you can show your stuff to the world!

Cheers! Chris
Chris,
Thank you so much for a nice location to take photos.
I will start going through my images tomorrow and post them where you can choose from.
A big thanks for everyone who came out for the Photo Walk. It was good to meet you all and I hope you had as much fun as I did. I also hope you got some great photos and are going to share some of them with us.
To share, you will need to be a member of Flickr. Joining is easy, or you can use an existing account. Go to http://www.flickr.com and follow the instructions. If you have problems, please first try the Help section and then, if still having difficulties, send me an email and I’ll try to help you out.
After uploading photos to your Flickr account, you can then add them to the:
Scott Kelby worldwide group:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/
and/or New Westminster group:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/newwestwalk2011/
Go to the group page and click the “Add photos” button (just above the photo display).
Heads-up that Flickr is sometimes a bit slow, so be patient.
*** REMINDER *** If you are going to submit your best photo for the chance to win the Scott Kelby book “Light It, Shoot It, Retouch It” the contest deadline is Friday, October 7, 2011, 09:00AM Pacific Time. Yes, this Friday.
When logged-in, near the top of this page, just below the picture of smug me and above the map, is a section “Upload Your Photo” and a beige square with “How to…” instructions. Follow those to submit your best photo.
I have a few of Scott’s books and I find them an enjoyable read, and a great reference. Full of good tips to improve your photographs.
Someone’s going to win that book, why not you?
So, thanks again for the great turn-out (we were 33 strong) and I look forward to seeing your photos.
Cheers, Chris
Thanks again Chris for your excellent organization and help with getting our pictures uploaded for others to see. Thanks also for your patience and encouragement. It was great fun.
There were some technical “glitches” which stopped some photowalkers from submitting a photo for the “Best of Group – win a Kelby book” contest.
I’m going to try to sort them out with the Worldwide Photowalk webpage admins. I don’t know how quickly that will happen but, hopefully, it won’t be too long.
Please bear with me!
Chris
PS – the pictures that have been submitted are very good. You’re not making it easy for me to choose. Nice work!
