Photo Walk Description
This is a social event open to anybody regardless of photography skill or age. People are invited to bring any camera they’d like, from cell phone to point & shoot to full on professional equipment, and tour beautiful Missoula to capture it’s best side. The tour will be lead by staff from Rocky Mountain School of Photography. We’ll be happy to give photo suggestions and answer questions along the way, but this is not intended as an educational event. The same type of Photo Walk is happening in cities all over the world on the same day, and we’re all doing it for fun! Safety will be priority one and so will your comfort. The entire tour will take two hours and cover approximately a mile and a half so please wear comfortable shoes, a jacket of some sort, bring water, a beanie and gloves to be prepared for chilly weather. We’ll start at the RMSP Gallery at 216 N. Higgins Ave. at 5 p.m., we will walk directly south on Higgins and head under the Higgins Ave. Bridge to the infamous Fish Sculpture and then the deck overlooking Brennan’s Wave in the Clark Fork River for photo ops. From there, we head west on the river trail stopping at A Carousel for Missoula. Then continue heading west to stairs leading to the top of the Orange Street Bridge taking pics of the river looking east on the bridge. We’ll continue on to the path and tunnel leading under Orange Street on the opposite side of the bridge. Then we’ll head to the MOBASH Skatepark and directly under the bridge for more photo ops. Continuing east, we walk through the Clark Fork Nature Area along the Kim Williams Trail and stop again at the Griz statue in front of the Boone & Crockett Club building. From here, we’ll continue on to the stairs leading up to 3rd St. W and turn left on to the Higgins Ave. Bridge (an optional detour from here could be heading south on Higgins a few blocks and stopping at Big Dipper Ice Cream for photo ops and um, ice cream???). Continuing north on the Higgins Bridge we’ll take advantage of the great views of Brennan’s Wave, Caras Park and The Wilma Building. From here, we’ll head due north on Higgins through downtown where there are numerous old buildings and alley ways to capture the urban feel of Missoula. We’ll finally conclude the walk at Break Espresso at 7 p.m. Once everyone meets up, those who wish to stay for editing their photos can do so at The Break or at Charlie B’s with fellow shutterbugs. There will be a means for you to upload your images for the Missoula Photo Walk page on Flickr that will be potentially viewed by people from all over the world! Come join us for fun, photos and feeling good about good ol’ Missoula!
