Photo Walk Description

The Stone Arch Bridge is one of the most scenic spots in the metro area. Not only the bridge itself, but there is St. Anthony Falls, Mill City Museum, and the Guthrie Theater. The plan will be to meet in the Hennepin Island Park on the east side of the bridge and then start walking towards/over the bridge. The walk will continue to several points along the bridge to the west side of the river to capture beautiful late fall shots of the area. Once on the west side of the bridge, the group can either go north/south along the River Parkway and take evening pictures of the bridge itself. It’s recommended to bring either a tripod or monopod. If anyone can bring a spare to share, it would be very appreciated. Maps of great viewpoint spots will be handed out at the start of the walk to help guide walkers who may want to adventure on their own.

After the walk, the plan will be to meet at Pracna on Main.

  • Parking for photo walk

It appears that a walk to raise awareness for assault victims will overlap with the photo walk. Parking in the area will probably be hard to come by. Some alternatives is a parking ramp on St Anthony Main, just north of the Hennepin Island Park or on the other side of the bridge and then walk back to the meeting spot.

Looks like we’ll have great weather, so drive safe and we’ll see this afternoon!

  • Photowalk update

The feedback I got from everyone is that 5pm to 7pm was preferred either due to timing or better light. I will be at the meeting spot at 4pm in case anyone had planned on this original time and then again at 5pm. Looks like we are in for some beautiful weather on Saturday.

Can’t wait to see everyone out there!

  • Need feedback on moving walk back 1 hour!!!

I’ve had a couple of inquiries on if it is possible to move the walk back one hour so it runs from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The request was so the walk would be better overlap with sunset timing that day.

So, what does everyone think? Do you still want it from 4:00pm to 6:00pm or move it back an hour from 5:00pm to 7:00pm?

  • Spicing up your photo walk

As we get closer to the photo walk date, I wanted to pass along a couple of ideas so you can have some real fun with your photography on the photo walk.

    1. Get a neutral density filter. This will allow long exposures and give the falls or other water a more glossy/flow feel.
    2. Don’t do what you normally do. If you are typically a landscape photographer, try doing more candid shots of the people in the area or vice versa.
    3. Rent a lens for the weekend. There a quite a few places that rent lens (borrowlenses.com or lensrentals.com) that let you try something new.

Most of all, I want to make sure everyone has a good time. Look forward to seeing everyone there in a couple of weeks.

  • Changing Walks/Doing more than 1 walk

I have seen comments on our walk page, as well as direct emails from walkers, on how they can either switch walks or do two walks. Each question has a slightly different answer:

    1. Switch Walks: If you wish to switch to a different walk (and why would you want to leave this one, so you must be wanting to join… great), log into worldwidephotowalk.com with the credentials you used to sign up. Once logged in, find/open the walk you originally signed up for. When the walk page opens up, look for the “Leave This Walk” button just to the upper right of the map. This will remove you from the original walk you signed up for. Now you can join a different walk of your choosing – like this one.

    2. Do Two Walks: The organizers (NAPP & Kelby Media) have the registration software setup to allow one walk per email address/account. If you wish to sign up for a 2nd walk, the only way is to either do option 1 (from above) or sign up with a 2nd email/account.

Hope this helps everyone out (and that you don’t use it to drop out of this walk)!

I signed up for your walk and am not able to sign up my wife, is there a way you can add her to the list. Wifes name is Karen Woitas

    • atica crooms says:

This is on the FAQ’s page:
      Q. I share an email address with someone who also wants to participate in the Photo Walk. How can we both register?
A.One of you will need to sign up for another email account to register. It’s free, quick, and easy to do with any number of services including GMail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc.

    • Jason Verly says:

Just want to double check that you and your wife are all set. Like I mentioned previously, I saw a 2nd walk entry get submitted for Karen so you are good to go.

  2. Melissa Harstad says:

I would like to join this walk and it tells me I need to switch my Sunday walk for this one. I am wanting to do both walks if that is possible.

    Thanky you,

    Melissa

    • Jason Verly says:

Unfortunately you cannot join both walks under the same user ID/email. If you wish to switch walks you’ll either need to either join the 2nd walk with a different email or drop out from the other walk. Hope this helps.

  3. atica crooms says:

I would like to join up with this photo walk but it won’t let me register since I signed up for another one earlier in the day!! Can I still come?

    • Jason Verly says:

Ditto answer I gave to Melissa. Either you have to drop the other walk or join the 2nd walk with a different email address. That is how the walk has been setup by the WWPW organizers.

Drop me a note if you have any problems.

  4. Jason Verly says:

Just a quick note: If you have a question, but don’t want to post it publicly in the Comments section, you can use the ‘Contact Leader’ button next to my name instead. This will send your message via a direct email to me. I can then respond back directly to you.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Don Wheeler says:

    I like the later time.

  6. atica crooms says:

So what has been the decision about the time on Saturday?? Will we be meeting at 5pm then?? Atica

  7. Dave Adams says:

“Suggested image dimensions should be no bigger than 1000 pixels on the longest side and 72dpi

    Maximum upload file size: 1MB”

Since I shot some images at 240 dpi, these guidelines will seriously degrade the quality of the 240 dpi photos (as well as some of the 72 dpi) if I resize them. How can I avoid this? I’ve tried some of the usual tactics in PS, but my pic ends up about 1 inch on the long edge. So, this is an issue as well, I think.

    Help?

  8. atica crooms says:

OK I am not seeing how to upload the photos, I log in just like I am supposed to it takes me to “find a walk” page. I find our walk page but there is nothing on how to upload photos.
