Photo Walk Description

Welcome to my Worldwide Photowalk page! My name is Steve Wetzel and I will be leading the Madison Worldwide Photowalk for the third straight time this year. This year we will be starting our photowalk near the Capital. The specific trek we are going to take is still to be worked out but it will include photographing the capital, photographing the tail end of the Farmers Market that day (including vendor tear down), photographing the buildings and sights around the capital and some other fun stuff yet that will be made know to you in the coming weeks. I do hope you can join us. We had a great time the last two years and our photo walks ware attended by some of the nicest people you ever will meet. Fancy cameras are not needed so join us with your point and shoot camera, DSLR, SLR, phone camera or any other type of camera you have.

    Leader News & Updates

  • AFTER THE PHOTOWALK

Hey walkers! I’m so glad everybody could make it and, for those of you who couldn’t make it, WE MISSED YOU! Steve Wetzel’s leadership shoes were hard to fill; there were so many questions for which I didn’t know the answers but I’m glad there were others to step up to the plate.

Here is a link to a Flickr Group that I have just created called “WorldWide PhotoWalk – Madison – 2011″ >> http://www.flickr.com/groups/1788978@N21/ <<

If there is any last leader-type thing I want to do, it is to encourage everyone to post the photos that you think are worthy and the ones you think aren't worthy (beauty *is* in the eye of the beholder) to this page, start and join discussions and comment on other's photos.

From here on, I think I will turn the leadership duties back over to Steve and thank him for the opportunity to meet such a diverse and interesting group of people.

  • FINAL UPDATE

Hi! Paul Driftmier here, Steve Wetzel’s replacement as Photowalk leader. There seems to be a little confusion about where to meet and what the route will be. The map on the World Wide Photo Walk site, and Steve’s notes there show a meet-up at the address, 16 W State St. Which is the west entrance to the Capital building. But he asked me to tell everyone to meet outside the glass staircase of the Overture Center, which is a block west of there on Mifflin. I believe we should stick with the posted address and I may recruit a volunteer to hang out at the Overture Center and direct walkers to the original location.

There are several parking options nearby the starting location. The Photowalk route will end at Paisan’s Restaurant, near Monona Terrace so parking at the Terrace might be the best bet.

I want to stress how important safety is for our enjoyment of this walk. People driving around the Capitol square tend to be both distracted by the sights and confused by all the one-way streets. I hope everyone can spend some time looking out for traffic and not all their time looking through a viewfinder. The weather should be great but, if you’re inclined to sunburn, please consider bringing some sunscreen.

The route Steve had planned for us is as follows, starting at the West entrance area of State Street. We’ll walk halfway around the square, clockwise, to Pinckney Street then south to West Wilson St. To Monona Terrace. There should be some great shots to be snapped there. Finally, we’ll gather at Paisan’s.

Because of the Badgers v. Nebraska game, Paisan’s may be a tad busy so we’ll meet up outside. The Great Dane Pub and Brewing is also close by for those who prefer it.

So, That’s it! I’ll see you all at 1:00 on Capitol Square, West end.

    Hi Nat and Melanie,

Thanks for signing up. It should be another great time. It will be nice not having the walk in the middle of summer this time. A cooler walk will be appreciated by all!

    Hello Steve,

Thanks for putting this together, it does sound like fun and I’m planning on being there.

    Hi all!
I’m excited about the photowalk this year. I attended the walk in Athens, GA last year. The weather was terrible, but I was able to get some great photos and tour a city I would have otherwise never visited.

    Hope everyone can make it!
