Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Some say this country was born a few miles away with the first Minutemen shots in Lexington and Concord. Others would argue the country we know today really started here in Lowell. The American Industrial Revolution did not start in Lowell, but Lowell is where all the pieces came together to create the great American industrial model. Lowell is also crisscrossed by several canals which brought hydro power to these huge mills. The canals are fed primarily by the Merrimack River which we will follow during the first part of our journey.

If you joined us for the 2009 Photowalk you are right in thinking the above description sounds familiar. You may also think that we are doing the same walk this year and you are right, almost. It turns out that this year’s walk date coincides with Lowell Folk Festival. Wikipedia will tell you, ” The Lowell Folk Festival is the largest free folk festival in the United States. It is made up of three days of traditional music, dance, craft demonstrations, street parades, dance parties, and ethnic foods. All of this is presented on six outdoor stages throughout the city of Lowell, Massachusetts.”

I will update this site once I work out logistics. Parking and street closures need to be considered. So stay tunded.

Ok boys and girls, it’s time.

I’m on my way and will see you all on the steps of the Tsongas Center (old name Tsongas Arena) at 1pm. Don’t worry, we will hang around if you are a little late.

Remember to bring FLUIDS to stay hydrated.

  • The 2010 Lowell Photowalk is almost here

Ok, I have put this off long enough, hoping I would be full of current info on what will be happening during the folk festival. At this point I really don’t know any more than what is on the Festival web site.
We will meet on the steps of the Tsongas Center. From there we will walk over to the festival which pretty much takes up the whole downtown area. We will walk as a group until we find a common meeting area to meet at the end of the walk. Once that place is picked we may want to break up and the theme will probably be “street photography to the max”. There will be so much going on there may be sensory overload.
I’m still unsure what parking and traffic will be like, but if you drive to the Tsongas Center (old, Tsongas Arena) there is a multi level parking lot to the right on the rotary.

Dress for the weather and bring an extra bottle of water. I am sure there will be plenty to drink at the festival, but one extra bottle of water won’t hurt. We will be covering a small area, but please wear some comfortable shoes.
