Photo Walk Description
After leading my first local Kelby walk last year, I just had to do another! This year, I will have a “Co-leader”. Gary Stanley, an expert photographer from Phoenix Arizona, will offer tips and help along the way for those who need it.
Gary and I presented a photo walk for the Quad-Cities Computer Society last fall, so I know you will enjoy his tips AND his “fun” approach. He will also present a Photo Seminar to the computer club on October 3rd, the Monday following the Kelby Walk.
The map shows only our start and end points. We will explore the area between the Mississippi River and LeClaire’s South 3rd Street.
Great photo-taking opportunities are close at hand in this picturesque and historic river town that is home to Buffalo Bill AND the “American Pickers” of TV.
Meet us at the covered pavilion south of the museums on the levee. For a GPS or map address, use the Buffalo Bill Museum, 199 N Front St. Ample parking is generally available on the river level, but leave the parking for the museum open, please. If you are concerned about negotiating hills, you could avoid most by driving to the Cody Road level after our introduction and do most of your shooting in the business district… a relatively flat area.
Join us for lunch and socializing at Sneaky Pete’s following this event. I’m really looking forward to this event and hoping the weather will be more cooperative this year! Please join us!

I’m looking forward to another photo walk with you! See you there!
Looking forward to another fun time with cameras and friends.
Oh, Yes, I’ll be there….and here’s hoping the weather will be semi-sunny, with temperatures in the mid-60′s! Thank you, Vicki, for being our Photoguru once again!
Is the walk just for professional photographers? It sounds like so much fun.
Hi Denise, Great to have you aboard! All levels of photographers from beginners to professionals are welcome here! If you enjoy taking pictures you should have a great time and make some new friends along the way. If needed, Gary Stanley will be available to answer questions and help you get some good shots.
Thanks Vicki, I am signed up and am very excited to meet you and Gary Stanley. Thanks so much for leading this walk. See ya Oct 1.
Yes Vickie I would like to attend. Is there a charge for this outing?
Karen, this event is totally free and there’s no charge to submit a photograph to the contest either.
I asked the Kelby group if someone could sign up for a second walk in the same area and this is their response to me:
Hi,
We are allowing people to participate in more than one walk this year, but our web team is working on setting up the site to enable people to do so. Once they get enable this feature, then people will be able to sign up for more than one walk.
Here is the rule of thumb we’re asking people to follow on this though… The idea behind having a second day is not so the same people can fill up both walks—it’s to let people who couldn’t walk Saturday have an opportunity to walk on Sunday. If you sign up for both days, chances are you’ll be denying someone the opportunity to walk. That being said, if it’s a week before the walk, and there are plenty of open slots for a Sunday walk (like 20 or so openings), then it’s perfectly OK to go ahead and join a 2nd walk, because you’re probably not stealing anybody’s spot at that point. Just be a good egg and don’t sign up too early for a 2nd walk, so other people have a chance to participate. You’re on the honor system for this one, and we trust you to do the right thing.
Hope that helps!

So Excited! Looking forward to the walk!
Is there a second day for the walk in Leclaire?
Sorry, Alisa. There is only this one walk at LeClaire, but there may be other walks about an hour’s drive from here on Sunday. Check the Kelby site for those locations.
The entry form will not let me enter. It tells me, “Account with this email already exists”. I would hope that it exists or I wouldn’t be sending this e-mail. Have you looked at the entry form? Gene
I didn’t see this online question until now, but I confirmed your registration by email last night so I guess it’s covered.
This is going to be Golden if the weather hangs in there , this will be my first of many to come !
Just heard about the walk tonight and I cant wait
Would love to of been on your walk today….better luck next year!
Thanks for all your hard work and efforts.
Thanks to all who supported this photo walk and made it extraordinary….the sponsors, the people of LeClaire, the “Twilight” riverboat, my wonderful assistants, a great co-leader, and the picture-perfect weather. I loved those awesome images captured that day… Including those entered AND the ones only posted on our Flickr site.
Names of the local award winners will be posted here tomorrow and they will be notified by email.
Congratulations to my honorable mentions or local awards:
Samantha DeShane, Blue Door, Orange Flowers
Wilson Anderson, River Man in Rocking Chair
Ralph Drexlar, Shaker Water Pump
Denise Conner, Flag Reflection on the “Baton Rouge”
While I’m thankful for the fine entries, I still found many more non-entries on the Flickr site that deserve mention and credit for a job well done. I’ve actually assembled a slide show of many of my favorites that weren’t a part of the competition. Perhaps I will use it next year as an introduction to the 2012 Photo Walk. It might help show what I’m looking for in a good contest entry.
Again, thanks for participating in our LeClaire event. You are a talented group of photographers and your work impressed me, just as I knew it would.
Hope to see all of you again in 2012!
