Meet Time: 10:00am - 01:00pm
Photo Walk Description
The Collegetown area of Ithaca offers many fun shooting opportunities. We’ll meet at “The Nines” (old firehouse converted to restaurant) and head out from there. Without having to travel more than a few blocks in any direction, we’ll find urban decay, beautiful gorges, creeks, bridges, tons of people, architecture, and an operating firehouse where I worked for 24 years. I’ll bring some extra lighting equipment along so we can finish up the walk with a mini lighting workshop.

Whats the car parking like there, preferably free?
Free parking all weekend at any meter or in the parking garage around the corner.
95 percent sure I can make this one, so I signed up. Glad to see it was a Sunday and the whole firehouse thing really seems wild. Cool ideas and I look forward to making the trip up for it!
See you then!
I’m not sure why, but I actually tried to create TWO different photo walks. The Sunday walk is the one on this page which will be in the Collegetown area of Ithaca. BUT PLEASE NOTE that I’m trying to get a photo walk together for Saturday as well.
Saturday: 10am to 1pm
Meet in front of 235 S Cayuga St (at the parking garage entrance)
We’ll walk to The Ithaca Commons during the annual Apple Harvest Festival which attracts thousands of people. It will be a LOT of fun if I can get the World Wide Photo Walk people to approve it.
Thomas Leuthard is a street photographer from Switzerland. He’s written two books on street photography which are available for free in PDF format. Enjoy!

The WWPW website won’t allow me to post a direct link. So just try replacing the “dots” and “.”.
As much as I hate to do it, travel plans have changed for me and I am going away starting this weekend and won’t be around. I had looked forward to this walk. Hopefully next time around. Have fun though!

Sorry you won’t be around. Keep in touch. I would love to do another informal photowalk this fall. Let me know if you are interested.
I’ve been communicating with registered walkers over the days. But if there’s any stragglers out there thinking of coming along without signing up you would not have seen those messages. (But you should sign up so you can enter the contest!) Here’s my latest message:
Good Morning!! Another beautiful day in Ithaca… well not really.
“Showers, mainly before 11am. High near 58. North wind between 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.”
Here is my proposal for the morning: We meet as planned in front of 311 College Ave in Collegetown. I’ll see if I can get permission to open the overhead door on the firehouse next door and we can gather there. (Shouldn’t be a problem.) Then, depending on the size and agility of the group we can talk about photography for a few minutes in the firehouse and take some photos there. Then if it’s still raining we can wander up to Collegetown Bagels and talk more about photography techniques.
Assuming the rain subsides, we can wander around Collegetown and shoot all kinds of things.
As for the discussion: I’ll talk about whatever you want. But we can discuss light, depth of field, all the settings on your cameras and what they mean, shooting in tricky situations such as portraits, sports, night, snow, etc. etc. We can also talk about what to do with your images once they are on your computer.
I’ll bring a laptop and card reader so (if you want) we can look at your photos from the morning and discuss them. And of course, I encourage you to submit your favorites to the World Wide Photo Walk site so I can choose the “best” one (whatever that means!).
There are 12 of you scheduled for today’s walk. Maybe a few others will straggle along too. Even if only 2 or 3 people show up, we will still have fun and learn a lot from each other.
Dress warmly. See you at 10AM.
Dave
If you’re a registered walker, I sent you my mobile phone number in a message last night. Keep that handy in case you need it today.
