Photo Walk Description

My name is Rick Kress and I’m the president of the Huntsville Photographic Society. Being the president of such a great club doesn’t mean I’m a great photographer. It simply means I was the last person to step backwards when they asked for a volunteer to step forward! I know we’ll have several HPS members attending the walk but I also look forward to meeting some new photographers too.
I chose downtown Huntsville because I think there is quite a variety of things to shoot there.

I tried to sign up for this but not sure it went through. Will I get some type of email or anything that lets me know I have been accepted?

  2. Veronica says:

I tried to sign up too and was having a lot of trouble.

  3. Barbara Montgomery says:

    Yeah! Thanks, Rick!!!!!!

  4. Rick Kress says:

I’m not sure what problems people are having (I know people had problems registering last year too). Liz & Veronica, you both show up on the attendees list. Barbara on the other hand did show up but not she doesn’t????
I’ve received some notices through email when people register. The email lists the person’s name. For some attendees, I never got the email. For others, I got it twice!

  5. Veronica Beaudry says:

Well. It looks like my first attempt to sign up did work. Boy this website is not very good. It was not at all clear that I had managed to register. I decided to try to login and it let me.

  6. John Kirwin says:

    Hi Rick

    Signed up…ready to kick ass…see y’all Saturday

  7. John Kirwin says:

Please disregard the “ready to kick ass”….hit reply before delete

  8. Rick Kress says:

I just sent an email message to all of the walkers. Please contact me if you don’t receive it.

Also note, the “push pin” in the map above is simply identifying”Huntsville, AL” and has nothing to do with the actual walk meeting location….although, just by chance, it is close!

  9. John Kirwin says:

Noticed there is a Flickr Site to post your work. Need to join the group before you can post.

Copy of mail sent to all walkers:
Very Frustrating. I haven’t heard a word from Scott Kelby on how members are suppose to enter their images. Yesterday I couldn’t even get to my Leader page. The website was giving me an error.

Walkers may see different information on your pages then mine. If anyone finds information about how to enter your images, please share with the group. I’m about 99% sure submissions will not be using Flickr site. Flickr sites are encouraged for posting many images from each walker just to share. The info I’ve seen so far and the way the Leader webpage looks, it feels like the walkers will submit through the WorldWidePhotoWalk.com site. I plan to send mail to the Scott Kelby site tonight but I doubt they get back to me any time soon!

If all the walkers will send me an email message, I’ll create an email list. If the website never works, we can just do our own thing.

  11. Rick Kress says:

Again, for those people NOT receiving emails….

Ok. I just checked the FAQ and it has instructions for walkers to post their images. There should be a yellow box that you click on to start the upload process. You’ll need to log into the site first. If you have problems, please let me know. And fyi, the FAQ page also acknowledged the errors that were happening yesterday and said they have been fixed.

  12. Rick Kress says:

    Hey

  13. Rick Kress says:

Try again…last message got sent too early.

Images are starting to come in so it looks like the website is working. In order to see the YELLOW box used to upload your image, you’ll need to log into the site. DEADLINE for entry is tomorrow, OCT 7th!

Here instructions from John Kirwin in case you have problems:

The procedure is to go to the worldwidephotowalk.com. Then use search
“huntsville,al”…when this page comes up, click on Rick’s group. Now the
part that is giving trouble. You have to log in. I have a Kelby login so I
just used my regular login. When I did that a yellow block appears with the
upload feature. Use a 1000 px at 72 ppi for your photo dimensions. Use the
browser in the yellow block to find your photo, open, then hit upload. Your
photo will appear in the box.

If you don’t have a Kelby login…go to their site and join…its free and a
    very good site

  14. Liz Smith says:

how do I know if my photo went through?

  15. Geri Reddy says:

Rick, I think my picture uploaded correctly, though I only see a small thumbnail, and it is not as wide as the original pic. I resized per the instructions. When I click on “View Full Size” nothing happens.

    Geri

  16. Barbara Montgomery says:

Rick..My photo of the Big Spring Ducks on the canal loaded , but how do you know who sent photos?…It did not ask for name, etc? The image of the ducks on the canal by the falls is mine…Barbara M….

    • Rick Kress says:

      Hey Barbara
The photos are labeled with the name of the photographer automatically. You have to be logged in when you post the images. The name you registered with is what gets attached to the photo. I see your images.

      Thanks.
      -Rick

  17. Liz Smith says:

is there any way to see what the others from our group have sent in? I gather from the above posts that you see everyones submissions but I’m always curious to see what everybody else did.

  18. Rick Kress says:

Wow. That was a tough job…choosing the winning photo. There were many images that I liked but I kept coming back to the one I choose. In my opinion there may have been others that were more techincal but I really liked the feel of the leaf in the water and the point being so crisp. I loved the ripples around the leaf almost giving it a bullseye effect. And even though we typically don’t like bullseyed images, in this case it works….maybe because of the ripples. Any way, congratulations to Ms. Liz Smith! And thanks to everyone who participated in the walk and the contest!

    -Rick
