Photo Walk Description

Hi, I’m Stacie Errera and I will be leading the WWPW in Northport this year. I have been teaching photography to beginners for many years and offer photo tips on my blog, www.chasingpictureperfection.com. I am excited to meet you and spend the morning with you photographing beautiful downtown Northport. The village website accurately describes this great northshore community: “Northport is known for its secluded deep-water harbor, beautiful parks and beaches, wealth of quaint 19th-century architecture and pedestrian-friendly downtown.” We will meet at the Village Gazebo in the Northport Village Park at the end of Main Street, Northport, NY 11768. I hope you will ask questions about your equipment and camera settings that you’d like to get more familiar with. We will take a walk around the dog-friendly village park, the dock and harbor, Main Street, and stately homes near the village. Please ask questions along the way about any camera settings, techniques, and more. If you are a new DSLR user, I am more than happy to explain basic photo settings in order to change the look of your photo. Bring your gear and questions.

  • A Brief History of Northport and Environs

    Hi all,

I thought the information available at this link: http://tinyurl.com/c5cr625, graciously supplied by the Northport Historical Society (www.northporthistorical.org) would be helpful for you in thinking about what you may wish to photograph on October 13th. I will also provide a hand-out of this information as well as tip sheet for history-rich things to photograph along Main Street when we all meet.

Please note that we need not stay together as a group and if you would rather venture off on your own, that’s perfectly fine. Any photo you take between 9:45am-12:00pm on 10/13/12 can be entered into the photo contest. The walk winner from each city will win a digital copy of Scott Kelby’s Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers and your image will move into the international contest.

Again to download the brief history of Northport, copy and paste this link into your browser: http://tinyurl.com/c5cr625 (sorry, this update system does not allow me to make the links hot).

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • Parking in Northport

Hi All. I have been asked if there is parking in Northport. There is a lot at the end of Main Street on the right side, the same side as the gazebo. There is also a lot on the left; however, there is a Farmers Market from 9am-1pm on Saturdays in this lot and parking will be limited there. I hope the market can offer some photo opps for us (http://northportfarmersmarket.org/)! Street Parking is also available. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

  • After-Walk Meeting Location

Hi Everyone. The meeting place after our Photo Walk in Northport will be Campari Ristorante at 225 Main Street, Northport (631-757-6700). They have a nice room where we can sit, get a slice of pizza or order off of the menu, and review your photos. And of course, keep asking questions. Lunch is at each participant’s own expense. We will meet there at noon at the end of our walk and we can stay as long as we like.

  • One Walker From Our Group Will Be Selected...

I will review the images you upload after the walk and select one walker to receive a Scott Kelby book and his/her photo will go on to compete with the winning walkers from around the globe!

Stay tuned for the name of restaurant where we can sit down afterwards to look at your photos and wrap things up.

I will also set up a Flickr where you can upload your favorite shots of the day and everyone can review them.
