Photo Walk Description

We’ll meet in the parade square, directly across from the TD Bank, and from there head down to Hollis St and make our way along the Halifax Waterfront. We’ll then head south along the waterfront to the Farmers Market, and from there back downtown, meeting up at Starbucks, 1646 Barrington Street to share some coffee or a Latte or two.

Looks like the 2011 Mitusbishi City Chase is also going that day, maybe we’ll get lucky and stumble into a few unique opportunities.

And if our walk gets bumped to Sunday on account of the weather, the CIBC Run For The Cure is on as well. Either way we’ll find something interesting along our route.

    Hi Everyone

The weather looks like it’s not going to cooperate on either Saturday or Sunday, so an outdoor walk looks a bit dicey at this point. Knowing maritime weather as we do though, the forecast could very well change between now and Saturday morning. So we’ll do the following: we’ll meet in the lobby of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic at 9:30p on Saturday regardless of the weather at that point in the morning (the museum opens at 9:30a).

If the weather is still inclement at that time, we’ll make the museum our photo destination for the photowalk. If the weather has cleared up by 9:30a we’ll continue as planned and walk along the waterfront.

If you have any questions, post them here.

    See you Saturday morning!

I checked the weather forecast one last time and the outlook for the weekend hasn’t changed, so plan B will be a go.

    A few final details:

o Admission to the museum is $8.75 There are group rates available but unfortunately we don’t qualify for the discount, though there are age-based discounts available.

o They don’t have visitor parking, but there are a few parking garages nearby which will allow you to dash to the museum without hopefully getting too wet.

o Everything in the museum can be photographed, however there are a few exhibits which prohibit flash photography. These areas are clearly marked. A lens with IS and a large aperture will definitely come in handy.

The info desk rep I spoke with wasn’t aware of issues wrt use of tripods, but due to space and safety concerns I would leave your tripod in your car. Though having one you can retrieve later might be useful if the weather cooperates at some point.

o The museum is located at 1675 Lower Water Street, http://g.co/maps/tafe2

o Be aware that over the past week, some of the streets in the vicinity of the museum have changed to being one-way: http://tinyurl.com/3p3n3yd

    See you tomorrow morning!

Thanks to everyone who braved the elements this morning and came out to our 2011 photowalk event. Between the shots in the museum and your photos taken between the raindrops outside, I’m sure everyone will have a great image to submit to the competition.

Instructions on submitting your image pick from the walk will be coming early next week.

If you have any questions, drop me an e-mail via the Contact Leader button. And if you’d like to showcase more than just the one image from today or view photos from others, contact me next week and I’ll create a Flickr group for that.

And before signing off, a quick plug for the Halifax Photo Society. Our next meeting is October 11th. See the halifaxphotosociety.com website for details (http://tinyurl.com/3qx2fbe) or visit our Facebook page by searching for Halifax Photography Society
