Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Welcome back walkers! This year we will focus on the town and if we are lucky- a tall ship?? Check back soon for more details. If anybody would like to shoot the carrousel- drop me a note and I will make the arrangements!

About Greenport-

A working seaport since the 18th Century. Located out on the north fork the deep-water harbor in the village center includes a 60-slip marina for transient crafts. Strolling the sidewalks, you ’ll find many unique shops, ice creams shops, museums, a restored Art Deco movie theater and restored old Jail house, and an antique carrousel. Greenport’s restaurants offer a delicious variety from picnic fare to gourmet dining, complete with local oysters lobsters, striped bass, sea bass, fluke paired with locally grown vegetables and Long Island wines. The Maritime Festival in September is very popular as is Shakespeare in the park, Trawlers Weekend, the Art Walks, Architectural self-guided tours, ice-skating rink and local museums. Our maritime haven is just steps away from the train, bus, ferry, and charming lodgings.

    Yes- it was Hot!

    It was a pleasure meeting all of you!

    Remember to post your pics in our flickr group, you can post as many as you like. For the contest- your only allowed to submit one and the deadline is July 31. Anybody not sure how to upload their images feel free to send me an email for assistance.

    A special thanks goes to Andrea Rauch for the Domke goodies. And to Jeff? I didnt get his last name, from the Greenport info booth for sharing some areas to photograph.

    Three days to go!
    A few pointers to get the most out of your walk!

    I was out in Greenport last Sunday- it was HOT!
    As I indicated in the “About this walk section”, – this year we will walk the town- take in the shops and enjoy the shaded side of the street!

    If you do become over heated- feel free to enter any of the shops. I will also be making arrangements with Front Street Cafe to allow any walker to enter earlier if they need to!

    Do bring water! Do wear light colored clothing, a wide brim hat and foot wear you are comfortable with walking on pavement.

    As far as photo gear- you already know what you are bringing- and if you do wish to bring a tripod, which is fine, just remember to watch for others while you set it up and use it.

    For you new walkers- for the most part we walk very slowly. Taking in the sights- setting up shots and basically chatting about photography in general.

    If you have any questions about photography in general- you will be pleased to know that almost anybody who looks like they know what they are doing will be more than happy to share their expertise with you! With over 45 people- there is a good chance somebody will also have your camera or brand and be able to share some tips.

    After the walk- we will all meet up at Front Street Cafe where lunch or a drink can be had, we will have a raffle for some great camera bags and basically chill!

    One final note- I really didnt get many requests for shooting the Carrousel this year. It will be open during it normal hours- I think 10:30am and if you would like to shoot it you may certainly walk over and do so. There is a small fee- I think 5 bucks?

    Some great news folks- everybody who registers for the walk will be eligible for a raffle which will include Domke camera bags- camera straps- memory card wallets and a photo backpack! All courtesy of our good neighbor- Tiffen Manufacturing Corporation in Hauppauge!

    I will post some pics of the goodies on our flickr pages shortly! The prizes will be giving out during the luncheon following the walk!

    OK- we are booked at Front Street Cafe! The menu was decent and the prices were reasonable! Besides- Im a sucker for fresh fried clams!

    Hello:) I participated in the walk last year but went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. This year I am heading in the opposite direction. The North Fork is my favorite place to photograph so I am very excited to take part in this walk. Thank you very much.

    Great job in organizing the walk this year. In spite of the heat, I think everyone had a great time and the choice for lunch was excellent.

    Looking forward to next year.
