Photo Walk Description

This is my second year as a walk leader. I really wanted to go to Bay Beach Amusement park this year, but they close the weekend before the walk. I decided instead to walk the Cofrin Arboretum again, but this time, we’ll be doing an evening walk. Sunset is at 6:30PM, so I plan to be on the bayshore or at the tower overlook for a great sunset view! And since we’re walking in the fall this year, the colors should be spectacular!! I haven’t worked out our route yet (and probably won’t until it gets closer to walk time), but I’m thinking we’ll head south and east from the soccor stadium, along the creek, and end on the other side of Nicolet Dr. right on the shores of Green Bay for sunset.

The following link has 2 helpful maps. The “UWGB Campus Map” shows the location of the soccor stadium parking lot – our meeting location. The “Cofrin Memorial Arboretum” map shows the trails we’ll be walking.

Another change this year is that NAPP is offering the choice of walking on either the 1st or 2nd of October. I chose the 1st so that we can reserve the 2nd as our rain date. We had a great time last year – I hope you’ll join us for this one!!!

  • NEW MEETING LOCATION

I have tried and tried to find a way to edit the information above, but I cannot find any way. So, just so there’s no confusion, I’m reiterating that the meeting location is no longer at the soccer stadium. We’ll meet at 4:30 PM at 2487 Nicolet Dr. at the Lambeau Cottage parking area just past the UWGB main entrance on the bay side of the road.

This is the place to post ALL your walk photos, but NOT your contest submission. After the walk, you should see a link right here on this page for submitting your favorite photo to the contest.

Here’s the main Flickr page for the 4th Annual World Wide Photowalk: http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/ Check this one out after the walk and you’ll see submissions from all over the world! And, of course, you can submit your own photos as well.

  • New meeting location and after-walk meeting place...

    Hi everybody!

I have a couple of updates. I went out to the Arboretum yesterday and figured out our walk.

First, and most importantly, our meeting location has changed. We’ll meet at Lambeau Cottage instead of the soccer field. The address is 2487 Nicolet Dr. It’s located directly across Nicolet Drive from UWGB, just past the main entrance, on the Bay side. Heading northeast on Nicolet Dr., take the first left turn (gravel drive surrounded by woods) after the main entrance. If you get to Communiversty park, you’ve gone too far. There’s a large parking lot and Curly Lambeau’s old cottage, presently used by the University. The cottage is right on the shore of Green Bay.

Our walk will follow Arboretum trails through the woods, along a creek, and through prairie. Then we backtrack to the cottage, getting there early enough to explore the shoreline, cottage, and get sunset photos from the shore. For those of us that did the walk last year, we’re taking trails that are completely different. The main areas of interest (other than the shoreline) are the creek crossings and an interesting place where the trail goes through an underpass below Nicolet Dr. There’s some graffiti here and a sidewalk with the creek flowing over rocks on both sides of the trail. It’s an interesting mix of nature and urban that I think might make some great photos. The fall colors aren’t as bright as I’d hoped, and the trails aren’t quite as dramatic as those along the escarpment that we followed last year, but I think the sunset shoreline photos and Curly Lambeau’s cottage should more than make up for that.

Second, I’ve found our meeting place after the walk. We’ll head to 4 C’s restaurant and bar. It’s at 2148 University Ave. The place seems perfect for our purpose. It’s a casual place with a full menu of everything from burgers to full dinners, the location isn’t too far (there aren’t a lot of restaurants near UWGB), and they advertise that they have free WiFi and plug-ins if anyone wants to share their photos right after the walk. Here’s the website link if you’d like to check it out: http://www.4csrestaurant.com/

We’re getting close now and it looks like we’ll have great weather!! I’ll be working on getting our Flickr site set up for uploading the photos we take. I’ll contact you all as soon as I get the web address.

Thanks for signing up and joining me!!

Jennifer, I don’t know if you remember me, but I did the photo walk with you last year. I would like to attend this year, but I’ve got a wedding on that day. I’m hoping for rain. :>)

In case it does rain, should I sign up anyway, just in case?

If I don’t see you this year, thanks for hosting again and take some fantastic images!

I sure do remember you, Jim. I’m so sorry you can’t make Saturday!! Sure, go ahead and sign up. That way you’ll get my email updates. And who knows, even if there isn’t rain, maybe the wedding will be canceled ;)
