Photo Walk Description

Glen Haven, MI is a perfect photo walk destination to experience the magnificent and beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. This photo walk is open to anyone and everyone with any camera at any skill level. It’s a great location to meet up and collaborate with others passionate about photography. The area is so beautiful that it doesn’t matter what skill level or camera you bring – you will come away with captivating pictures!

My plan for this photo walk is to meet in the newly renovated parking lot next to the historic Glen Haven Boat Museum. From there, we have lots of options and photo opportunities ranging from an easy walk down the beautiful rocky beach or the more adventurous hike over the tops of the dunes or depending on the fall foliage we could head over to the sleeping bear dunes scenic drive where there are some awesome s-curved roads with lots of colorful hard woods.

A little about me – My name is Ken Snyder. This is my second year leading a World Wide Photo Walk. I’ve had a life long passion for photography, nature and wildlife. It excites me to capture those precious moments in nature and/or peoples lives so they can be shared and enjoyed by all. I’m also technology enthusiast aka I’m a computer geek `,-) Digital photography is a creative outlet for me which helps fuel my imagination by combining my technology background with the creative world of photography. Hi Everyone,

I’ve setup a Facebook Fan Page for our photo walk. The photo walk website is not very good about sending out notifications so I will look to leverage the Facebook page to keep everyone up to speed with the photo walk news and updates. The Facebook Fan Page is also a great central location for those interested to share your photo walk pictures. Also, please feel free to use the Facebook page to ask questions and collaborate with the group.

  • IMPORTANT - Park Entrance Pass Required

I spoke with the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park service this morning. They were very happy to learn about our exciting photo event and kindly reminded me that everyone will need a $10 park pass to visit the park. Please plan to pick up your park entrance pass before the event and make sure it is displayed on your car dash as instructed. Park rangers will be out and checking to make sure everyone has park entrance passes in their vehicles! You can find out more about the park entrance pass here: http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm

You can purchase your park entrance pass in one of three locations:

    1 – Philip A. Hart Visitor Center (opens at 8am) – http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/visitorcenters.htm

    2 – DH Day Campground – http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/dhdaycamp.htm

3 – Maritime Museum (this is the closest location to the boat Museum parking lot) – http://www.nps.gov/slbe/planyourvisit/maritimemusem.htm
