Photo Walk Description

Greetings,
My Name is Paul Lambert, and I will be your guide and walk host on Saturday October 1, 2011. I am a Professional Photographer with a Studio in the South West Side of the city. I have been a resident of Frederick for over eight years and love the charm and photographic opportunities that this Old City has to offer. As for me, I have over 35 years of photographic experience as first as a Sports photographer in 70’s and 80’s then a portrait and wedding photographer up to today. So if you any questions or are looking for suggestions about some photographs during the walk, please feel free to ask. Besides being a photographer, I have also taught photography to wide audience of photographers from new beginners to working pros. So if you are new with your camera and just learning or want to pick a new technique, I will be more than happy to assist you.
The walk that I have planned for Saturday will start at Brewers Alley on North Market Street near 2nd street and will end back at Brewers Alley. Parking is located conveniently behind the restaurant in one of the many down Fredericks Parking Garages.
The rout I have planned will take us through many of the historic sections of Downtown including City Hall and by most of the famed churches that the City of Frederick is known for. We will be able to photograph a wide spectrum of subjects from architectural to common people on the streets. So please ware comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing, and most importantly, bring your camera. The Walk will end back a Brewers Alley where we will be able to have some refreshing drinks and snacks or even a meal. But more importantly, we can all share some of our images of the days walk and plan for the next Photo Walk.

  • Hello Frederick World Wide Photo Walk Walkers

The Walk is only a few days away, and there is a lot of information to pass on to you all. I have been on a very tight schedule myself so getting free to play catch-up on the Walk has been tough.
Enough of that on to the important stuff.
    (1) Please find enclosed a final Map of the walk that we will be taking on Saturday Afternoon. It contains many notable land marks and many not notable land marks. The variety of image taking on this route will be more than abundant. The aim is to have fun and be creative.

    Meet at the Green Turtle
    (2) VERY IMPORTANT Our staging and starting location is NOT Brewers Alley but we are Meeting at the Green Turtle at 50 Citizens Way # 101. There is a parking garage behind the building across the street from the County Court House. We are also going to end the Walk back at The Green Turtle. The Fine staff has offered some discounts so if you are registered for the Walk, you will get a packet with some discounts from the Turtle.

    (3) The Weather and this is important, the forecast for Saturday Oct 1, 2011 calls for a chance of rain (about 30% chance) and a average temperature of 50 to 57 degrees. Please dress appropriately and bring some sort a rain protection for both you and your equipment. Unlike last year when the temps was averaging in the upper 90s, this year we will be photographing in much cooler weather. At the end of the walk, I know the Green Turtle will have some hot coffee and Warm COCO.

    (4) Safety First, please be aware that if we do get some rain, make sure you also have proper foot ware so to avoid any slips or falls. I will have on hand a small First Aid Kit for some minor cuts and scrapes, but any major injuries will require a possible trip to the Hospital. That would not be fun for either you self or others. Also I am going to ask Walkers to have a buddy (IE fellow Walker) with them to both assist when needed and to be a set of additional eyes for safety. Be mindful of your equipment, in today’s economy, the rate of personal theft has risen sharply and having a buddy with you will reduce that risk. Better yet if we can stay as a group through a large part of the walk, everyone will reduce any risks of any issue befalling us.

    (5) Meet and Share, this is the time we will all sit around the table at the Green Turtle and view some of the raw images that we have taken during the walk. This is also a wonderful time to introduce yourself to the other fellow walkers that you may have not gotten to know during the walk. I plan on ending the walk at about 4:00 to 4:30 in the afternoon, or earlier if the predicted rain becomes heavy. Also stay and have a early dinner or a snack.

    (6) Have you Joined the Flickr Group for this year’s Walk? If not, please do so. All of the images that will be submitted for consideration for the Grand Prize will be chosen from this Forum. It will also be a great focal place to talk about your participation In the walk and to comment about many of the images from other fellow walkers. Additionally, I will be posting the results from the selection of walkers entered images and the final results of the World competition.

    (7) When you show up Saturday. When you do show up and you are not sure if you are at the right place, look for the guy with the sign World Wide Photo Walk 2011. That will be me and I will have a list with me of the participants. So please sign in with me. Before we commence with the walk, I will give a quick talk about Safety, the Buddy system and how to contact me via Cell Phone is you are in trouble or Lost.

This is intended to be a fun event for all.

  • I had to Change the Staging Location to the Green Turtle.

Hay there fellow photographers and Photo Walkers.
After weeks of requests and non-returned calls from Brewers Alley, the fine people of the Green Turtle in Downtown Frederick has stepped up to the plate and are accepting us with open arms and is excited about being a part of this years Photo Walk.
This Address for the Green Turtle is: 50 Citizens Way # 101. There is a parking garage just behind the Green Turtle and additional Parking behind the County Courthouse.
As planned before, we will start to gather at about 1:45 in the afternoon, and start our walk on about 2:00. The Walk will end back at the Turtle where we can gather share some images and talk about our experiences and even answer any questions.
Please accept my apology for any confusion about the original starting location, but I was kept at bay by the management at Brewers Alley.

    Paul,

Thanks for spending the time and effort to organize and run the Photowalk. This will be my second year and I am so glad it has been moved to the fall. It was super hot and humid last year in August.

It should be interesting doing an afternoon walk.

Were you part of the Frederick Photowalk last year?

    Lewis

    • Paul Lambert says:

      Hay there Lewis,
Yes I was, but I could only participate for half the walk do to a assignment in the
      afternoon of the walk.
This year, I have made Saturday walk day and I plan on making this walk both fun and safe for everyone.
I am glad to see you return this year and I hope that this Walk will be a dry one as well.
      Paul

        Paul,

Do you know if last year’s Frederick walk leader, Andy Alonso, is signed up to walk with us this year?

Although our walk website has a button for “View Attendee List”, it does not seem to work for me.
