Photo Walk Description
Please plan to park at the municipal garage across the street from Puckett’s and next door to the Judicial Center. We will need a few minutes to brief each participant – and we being to walk at 9:15.
Thanks for giving our Historic Franklin Photo Walk your consideration. This will be my third time as group leader and I am anxious to work with this year’s Photo Walkers as we have something new in the mix – we walk in the Fall and not the heat of mid-summer.
I find sunrise is about 6:42 the morning of October 1st – so starting off at 9:15 should provide for some interesting light hitting our subjects before we quit at 11:15 for lunch at Puckett’s Grocery.
So think Town Square in downtown Franklin, historic buildings including homes on the side streets, turning leaves everywhere, and the refurbished Franklin Cinema and nearby stores on Main Street. Let the creative juices flow and come up with interesting angles and shapes in color or black and white.
I have a number of options for you to think about but most of them are still “in the creative stage” so I need to ask you to keep watching for updates. Williamson County Library has already invited us to exhibit the group’s winning image as well as a court of honor of 14 additional images for the month of November. So, when you submit your image to me for the judging – I send in our best image for the World-Wide Scott Kelby Photo Walk competition for honor and prizes – and if you are our winner, I will also need your agreement to display a framed print at the library. If you would like to be considered for the court of honor, you will need to let me know when you submit your image that you will be willing to exhibit a framed print of your selected image in this court of honor.
I will be setting up a FLCKR site so each of our Historic Franklin Photo Walk participants can upload and share a limited number of images from this year’s walk. More about this in an update.
We are considering a book this year that we hope will generate a more meaningful donation to Graceworks and Heritage Foundation in Historic Franklin than we were able to raise our first two years. We had two beautiful books, but we did not do an aggressive marketing job. One possibility – a few realtors have expressed interest in buying limited quantities to use as client gifts. So, we are asking our volunteers on the book team to come up with a process that will take advantage of this advance interest. Our thoughts are to include the following:
1. Our winning image and the court of honor
2. Three to four images by each participant in the Photo Walk with a picture of the photographer
3. A selection of up to 50 images of selected buildings or sites in Historic Franklin
Item 3 is a new idea – we will be asking each participant to volunteer to make an image of a selected site or building – and this image need not be taken during the specific two hours of the actual Scott Kelby PhotoWalk but at a time of day when you think the lighting does this site the most justice. We intend to provide a list from which selections can be made. There is a possibility that one of the Historic Franklin organizations will stage a separate exhibit of these images of selected sites. We are hoping this facet alone will help provide useful recognition for the volunteer photographers.
In addition, we are working on a reception where we can view a video featuring the range of images we are considering for a proposed book. This video will also be made available to the City of Franklin for use on their cable access TV. So, we will also need to know if you want to be a part of this video project – and if there is sufficient interest, details will follow in an update.
In order to stage our library exhibit for the whole month of November, we will have some tight time constraints. Closer scrutiny: – we are heading into the Holiday Season when our individual calendars start to jam up – so we’ll be doing a lot to work within all of this. Keep your eyes on this update – and to be sure you know what is going on early, consider trusting me with your e-mail address so I can write you directly.

PS – The only way to enroll in this walk – and the only way to remove your name from the walk – is to follow the guidelines and procedures provided by the Scott Kelby Photo Walk folks, I cannot do either of these.

I was on this walk last year and forgot my info. When I try to have my password sent to me I get the following:
Username: Mtudor
And the following to reset my password =
The above link will not connect me.
I have attempted at least 4 times to sign up but have failed
Guess I need some help!
Thanks,

A test message to the Walkers registered for Franklin on October 1
My leader instructions mention a button to enable me to send an e-mail message to my group. I do not see it – and am wondering if this is what they mean.
I hope each of you will trust me with your e-mail address so that I can work with you on some of the extra events.

I would like to send a special message to each of the walkers. Many of those on the list are known to me through the Brentwood Photography Group, or from previous walks. But there is now a large component of new folks and I would welcome having your e-mail addresses so that I can tell you more about what we are planning, and to get your response to some of the options.

Dick, thanks for leading this group again this year. It looks like once again you are in the process of lining up some wonderful opportunities for the participants to display and show their art. Looking forward to another great day.
Thanks for your kind words, David. I know the newbies on our walk would like to get some “third party” feel for the benefit of these extras, and I am sure your comments help reassure them that participating is a good idea.
Dick
Should you need to remove your name from the list of walkers, the software will allow you to do so yourself. However, I would appreciate a quick e-mail to let me know you have done so. I keep records off line and the list on this site is not alphabetical so it takes more time that I would like to use finding who removed him or herself.
ALSO – should you need to remove yourself from the list and cannot, drop me an e-mail as the Kelby folks have made it possible for leaders like myself to remove folks from the official list.

New to the area and looking forward to meeting some TN shutterbugs!
Matthew – please read the options we are offering and drop me a note to my
personal e-mail – rjdougall(at)comcast(dot)net to not only give me your e-mail
address but to let me log you in for the options. Take a look at the local
photography group at http://www.brentwoodphotographygroup.org – meets first
Tuesdays in Brentwood at Otter Creek Church on Franklin Road — 6pm until ?

PS Same comment to Chriss Goyenechea, Kerry Woo, and Tom Frundle – all
newcomers to our walk.

Thomas… I absolutely love that image above. The play of Negative and Positive in your image.
