Photo Walk Description

Thank you for considering this photo walk in historic downtown Fort Pierce. We are planning to meet bright and early to capture the sunrise over the river. From there, we’ll set off on foot and explore the beautiful historic area, its architecture and more.

I’ll continue to update this page and add more information soon, so I hope you’ll check back.

So, who am I, anyway? I’m a multimedia journalist at Scripps Treasure Coast Media by day, and a photographer/digital artist/multimedia producer whenever I can be. I also run my own website at http://www.carnolddesigns.com, where you can see some of my work and learn a little more about me. Last year, I led a photo walk in historic downtown Stuart, which is another beautiful location. This won’t be a rigorous training session, but a casual, fun morning taking photos in a scenic location that offers a lot of different subjects. So, if you like to have fun while taking pictures and meeting new people, I hope you’ll consider a Photo Walk this year.

    Leader News & Updates

  • Want to see your photos online, in print or even on a gallery wall???

I’ve got a few exciting items to share here tonight. For those who are new to the Worldwide Photo Walk, you will be limited to the number of photos you can submit on this site and enter in the competition. However, if you’d like to share more photos from the walk (I know I will!), you can share your photos in a couple of different places.

    Our group’s official Flickr group:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/1761956@N20/

The Worldwide Photo Walk’s worldwide Flickr group:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/

Be sure to submit your photos to TCPalm.com after the walk (we’ll pick a few to run in print on Oct. 10! (Be sure to include ‘Worldwide Photo Walk’ somewhere in your Caption.)
    http://www.tcpalm.com/upload/picture/

We also have an opportunity to display some of our works in a gallery setting, if enough participants are interested in doing so. Doris Tillman with Main Street suggested this, and I love the idea. She suggested we could exhibit some of our photos at the Platts/Backus House sometime after the walk (logistics would still need to be worked out). So, if anyone’s interested, let me know, and we’ll see what we can do!

  • Our walk route

If you notice on the suggested walk route, I have our walk ending at Veterans Memorial Park, a little bit of a hike up the road from our main location. Here’s my plan for that:

Typically, photo walks end with the group meeting at a restaurant, bar or cafe afterwards to socialize, share photos, etc. For ours, though, I thought I’d try something a little different. There will be a number of great places open and serving breakfast after our walk. There will also be the Farmer’s Market going on, which will have food and drink for sale.

So, I thought it’d be nice if, at the end of the walk, we picked up a little something from wherever we want, and then meet at Veterans Memorial Park (maybe by the amphitheatre?) to socialize, relax and maybe even take a few more pictures.

We can even take our group photo there.

Walk, drive, bicycle or parachute — however you want to get to the park after the walk, I hope you’ll come by and hang out with us.

  • We're a week away!

It’s almost here, folks! In a week, we’ll be getting ourselves ready to have some fun exploring downtown Fort Pierce with our cameras in hand. I’ve updated the walk route on this page to illustrate the approximate route I’ll try to take. You’re welcome to follow this route with me, or deviate from it as the photo opps present themselves.

    Just remember to stay safe!

    And have fun, of course!

  • Is it Oct. 1 yet???

Well, not quite. But as we quickly approach September (where has the year gone?), our Photo Walk will be here before you know it. And I can’t wait.

We still have 22 open slots for this walk, and I really want to lead a full contingent. I think it makes it more fun for everyone. The more the merrier, right? So, if you know anyone who would like to walk with us, I hope you’ll encourage them to sign up.

So, what are you most looking forward to? Leave your thoughts in the comments below…

    :)

  • Official 'Walk' shirts are available!

In case you haven’t seen them yet, official Worldwide Photo Walk shirts are available for purchase from cafepress.com. There are several different styles available, and 100% of the profits from these shirt sales will go to the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya.

  • Get inspired by photos from past walks

Good morning everyone, and thank you for signing up to be a part of this photo walk. I can’t wait! I’ll be posting more updates as we get closer to the walk, but in the meantime, wanted to share some links to images from previous Worldwide Photo Walks. Enjoy!

    Hi Chris,
This is my first photo walk…I’m really looking forward to it. thank you for hosting it……hoping to learn alot and looking forward to taking some pictures. Can you answer a question for me? I’ve heard the term DLS (or is is DSR) when describing a camera. What does that mean? Thanks.
    Wendy

    • Hi Wendy! Thanks for signing up and I hope you enjoy the walk as much as I do. DSLR stands for “digital single-lens reflex cameras,” and while there’s a pretty lengthy technical definition I can give, those cameras are usually identified by their interchangeable lenses. That’s the type of camera I mainly use, but they’re not mandatory for the walk. If you have a device that takes pictures (point-and-shoots, DSLRs, even your phone), and you like taking pictures, then c’mon out and have fun on Oct. 1. See you there! :)

  3. Susan Dingess says:

    Forgot to ask—tripod necessary?

    TIA

    Susan

    • Hi Susan! Thanks for signing up! Tripods aren’t mandatory for the walk, but some photographers may choose to bring them along, depending on the types of pictures they hope to make. You’re welcome to bring any gear you’d like to for the walk, but you’ll also want to be comfortable for the walk.
