Photo Walk Description

Welcome to the Flagstaff World Photowalk. Downtown Flagstaff offers a lot in terms of photo opportunities and I am excited to meet some new local photographers and share this fun experience together. The plan is to do a short circuit of downtown, hitting some locations north and south of the tracks, ending at a bar or restaurant to refresh ourselves and share the pictures we made. About me: I am an amateur photographer with a day job but I shoot portraits, weddings and landscapes in my free time. I look forward to learning about you. Join us!

    Leader News & Updates

  • Submission deadline extended

The submission deadline for walkers was extended to the 10th, I assume because there were issues with uploading. Not sure if those issues were resolved, but now you have some more time to try and make it work!

  • 24hr left to submit

The deadline for walkers to submit photos is 12pm EDT tomorrow (10/7) which is 9am Flagstaff time, so get those photos in. Only 2 submissions so far so you have a great chance of winning Kelby’s new book “Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it”

  • How to post photos

Looks like you submit photos from this page. I can’t see the same page as you walkers can unless I log out at the leader and then I see a yellow box that says to log in as a walker to submit photos. I don’t think any have uploaded, so if you want a free book, you should submit a photo.

  • Flickr Group Up and Running

I set up our Flickr group by which we can share photos from the walk. As I understand it, this is a place for us to share any photos we like from the walk. There will be a separate location (Flickr group) for people to upload their single images for the contest portion. Check out the Flickr group here:

  • Meet-up after...Lumberyard?

The idea is to meet up after the walk to peep at each other’s LCD screens (anyone shooting film?) and have a refreshment if you like. The lumberyard seemed like a good stopping point thinking of the route I have in mind, but I am open to other suggestions. If we get a lot of people signing up, it could be hard to find room without paying to reserve a space.

  1. Denise Hugar says:

Looking forward to spending the day in Flagstaff with my camera. Can’t wait!

  2. Stephen Probert says:

We have 13 people signed up for the walk so far. I think this is a pretty good number, so I am excited to meet all of you! Note that the Flickr group is up and running for this photo walk. Feel free to go and join.

  3. Stephen Probert says:

Don asked about inclement weather. Checking the forecast, there is a 30% chance of rain, but I don’t know if that will materialize. For now I am saying that we will meet regardless of the weather unless there is a risk to our safety (such as a tornado or severe lightning storms).

  4. Nick Allen says:

Nice group size, we’re going to look like a bunch of tourists. Good times.

    • Steven Ruiz says:

Hey Nick, I’m excited about tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will compromise. My brother suggested you and I meet them at October fest afterward.

  5. Stephen Probert says:

So the plan is to meet at the Parking lot North of Biff’s Bagels (there is other parking on the street and near the bus station on Phoenix) and then do a circuit. The circuit I propose is something like:

Head up Beaver across the track pass through downtown
Take a right on Birch and head to the courthouse
Take a right on San Francisco and meander into Heritage Square
Continue down Leroux or San Francisco
Cross track on San Francisco and hope a train comes by (maybe go to Amtrack station)
Look for neat stuff near the railroad maintenance yard
Walk along Phoenix and/or Cottage (this is a cool area, visually)
    End at the Lumberyard

That is my rough plan, but we can modify it to make detours or go faster. I think this is about a mile, but we will be going slow.

  6. Stephen Probert says:

I will be wearing (weather permitting) a bright yellow t-shirt that says “Kodachrome”. See you tomorrow!

  7. Jon Matthies says:

Thanks for making this photowalk happen Stephen, ’twas a great time!

  8. Don says:

Thanks for leading the walk, I had fun and got to meet some great people.

  9. Stephen Probert says:

Thanks, everyone! I see Don has already put up some great pictures on the group Flickr site (the group name is Flagstaff Worldwide Photo Walk 2011; if you aren’t on Flickr, it is a great photo community, check it out). Also, I just posted the group photo on the Flickr group, you guys look good :)

  10. Stephen Probert says:

For those wondering about the contest, all the timeline info is on the WWPW home page. You can submit your photos starting tomorrow (the 3rd) and the deadline is the 7th at 12pm.

  11. Nick Allen says:

    Great walk! Thanks Stephen.

Did anyone lose any equipment in the crazy down pour?

  12. Don Watkins says:

    Stephen,
I am not sure how we enter our picture(s) for the contest. Please advise.
    Thanks.

  13. Stephen Probert says:

Sorry I had a busy day yesterday and didn’t get on here. I am checking into how to submit photos…looks like it is not as obvious as I hoped it would be. Check back later.

  14. Don Watkins says:

After seeing the yellow “Log In” box and logging in I can’t find any way to submit my picture. Apparently this has been a problem for many because there are numerous posts on the Kelby 2011 World Wide Photo Walk Flickr page with the same problem. Frustrating!

  15. Stephen Probert says:

I am sorry that you had trouble, Don. Ben was also unable to submit. Not sure if they will change the deadlines or anything.

  16. Don says:

Congratulations to Maureen for her winning photo.

  17. Maureen Medina says:

Thanks so much Stephen! And thanks for organizing the walk, I enjoyed myself and the town.
