Photo Walk Description

I have been a pro photographer for over 24 years and teach workshops through both McBain Camera and Metro Continuing Education (http://www.herviewphotography.com to read about me). Come join me for some fun, camaraderie, and maybe we can each learn something new!

Whyte Avenue offers lots to see at any time, especially a weekend. This route may be updated slightly but we’ll be sticking to around 82nd Avenue between 109 and 104th streets, with perhaps a deviation or two off to the north or south.

Our final meeting place is now confirmed at Boston Pizza which is at 108 Street on Whyte Avenue, close to where we started. The manager has given us the party room in the basement from 3-6pm and waived the deposit normally charged. So we have a couple hours for those of us that wish to compare images, chat about the day, and get something to eat or drink. Anyone wishing to stay longer will have to move upstairs to the lounge or restaurant or make other arrangements. The room is booked in my name, just tell them you’re with the Photo Walk group downstairs if you beat me there.

Come join us as we explore the Old Strathcona neighbourhood!

Should we get bad weather on the 1st, our alternate plan will be same route, on Sunday October 2nd.

  • Duplicate removals

It was brought to my attention that at least one person was listed on the walk twice. Scott Zigart and I also found Debbie Rasmussen listed twice also. I have removed the second one of each of those names so two new people can get added to the walk list. If you are either of those people and this was done in error (if there are two of you with the same name?) please get in touch with my by email.

    Thanks Darlene

  • If you can't make it for any reason . . .

If for some reason you are unable to attend the walk after all – please remove yourself from the walk so that anyone on the waiting list can fill your spot. We’d hate to see any of you go, but I don’t want someone to miss out if there’s a spot opened but they can’t get into it.

    Thanks for your consideration.
    Darlene

  • Waiting List

    Hello everyone

We are now a completely FULL walk, thanks everyone for joining! There is a waiting list if you’d like to see if you can still join us if someone else can’t make it. If you are on the waiting list and don’t want to wait – please feel free to join the other Edmonton walk which is not full yet. You can join it by going to this page: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/edmonton-ab-canada/

I know Bruce and I’m sure you’ll get a good time on his walk too. We’ll miss you of course, but I don’t want anyone to miss out completely on doing this just because mine is full.

    Cheers
    Darlene

  • Map and other info for walk

    Hi Walkers!

Just a reminder if you have just registered to please read my update notes. Go ahead and register for the Flickr group so after the walk we can all share our images.

A note about the map that is shown for the walk. It shows us going about a block north of Whyte avenue when we will actually go down Whyte. The map thing in the back office here for leaders is very finicky and I can’t get it to set correctly. Just so long as the meeting place before and after are correct we can meander a bit on our own and meet at the end.

    Thanks
    Darlene

  • Flickr Group for our walk

    Hello again walkers

I’ve created a Flickr group for our walk so we can all share images after the walk. If you have registered for my walk, please go to this page and join the Flickr group:

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/yeg-photowalk-2011/

If you are not already a member, it’s quick and easy to join and a basic membership is free. Please read the rules of the group and make sure you indicate your name when requesting to join (screen names don’t always tell me who you are). Look forward to see you all there and seeing your images after the walk!

  • Age limit for our walk October 1st

Hello Photo Walkers – just thought I’d add a note about age limits for our walk. Last year I had a couple of junior walkers and that is perfectly acceptable. 12 years old and up are welcome to attend, but please register them a spot also as 50 is a large group, and we can’t add any more on top of that number if we hit our limit. For kids 12-16 a parent or someone over 18 must accompany you please. Over 16, you’re welcome to come along with us by yourself or with a friend. Parents if you want to chaperone, you must register too please!

    Thanks all!

I would like to join. Please provide update via email, thanks.
It is free of charge, isn’t it?

  2. Yes Kat there is no charge, just show up! Welcome everyone and thanks for joining! I will be putting updates as I get them about the location and route on this page so please check back. I’m not 100% sure I can email the walkers but I will find out, and if so I will do a final update by email just before the walk to make sure you all get it.

This will be my first walk ever, can’t wait to get there! Whyte ave certainly has character so there should be a lot of photo opportunities! Hope the weather co-operates.

  6. Jennifer Jorgensen says:

Heya Darlene, found your walk through links on Mr. Pond’s FB… I *think* I’ve registered correctly… At least it didn’t tell me I wasn’t allowed… Can’t wait!

  7. Braeden Petruk says:

I was just looking at the Attendee List for this upcoming weekend, and it seems as though Scott Zigart is on there twice. Is there a way to remove the second copy to let someone else in?

  8. randy pond says:

I still cannot upload a photo. Nothing shows up for me, tried different computers and browsers.

  9. Corrina Mallon says:

Are we going to be able to see all the entries to the contest Darlene?
