Meet at the Town Hall Steps in the Market Place

Where The Walk Will End

Social get-together on the Prince Bishop River Cruise

About This Walk

Welcome to the 10th Anniversary of the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk 2017 taking place this year in beautiful Durham City which is packed with photo opportunities.  The 2 hour walk will be officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Durham, starting with a group shot on the Town Hall steps in the Market Place to photograph some of Durham’s iconic views of the Cathedral, Castle and beautiful riverside.  Following the walk, we will meet for a social get-together on the Prince Bishop River Cruise, a great opportunity to relax and socialise with your fellow walkers and grab a few shots from a different perspective.  This will be my third Scott Kelby WWPW and my first as walk leader which I believe to be the first WWPW in our great city.

I am a member of Durham Photographic Society, former Chairman of Wokingham and East Berkshire Camera Club & Photo Competition Judge for the Southern Federation of Camera Clubs, Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society and former Wedding Photographer in Chicago, Illinois.

Hi folks!
I hope your’e looking forward to tomorrow’s walk in Durham as much as I am. Please make sure you have sufficient memory cards and charged batteries for the walk and bear in mind the terrific prizes available for the best images from the day. There are almost $5,000 worth of prizes to be won and your images can be submitted shortly after the event:

I’ll aim to arrive at around 9:45 am and suggest you also allow plenty time for traffic and parking.

See you tomorrow,

Update 6 – 2 days to go!October 5th, 2017

Hi folks!
With just 2 days to go until our WWPW in beautiful Durham City, it’s a lovely sunny day and I’m hoping the weather will be kind to us on Saturday. I’ll be doing another ‘reccy’ this afternoon to fine tune some of the walk details; there are so many things to photograph in Durham, I’m planning to see the most photogenic image locations with the least amount of effort.

I’ve been asked about bringing a non-registered partner on the walk and that’s fine by me, everyone will be made to feel welcome.

See you Saturday!

Update 5 with sample imagesOctober 1st, 2017

Hi folks!
Yesterday morning (Saturday) I did a ‘recce’ around the city to help in planning our route for next Saturday. As expected, the place was very busy with the market, Freshers week and a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the sights. I met the owner of the Prince Bishop River Cruise and negotiated a charge of £6 per person for the one hour guided trip along the river. I hope you can join us for a get-together on the boat after the walk.

Some images from yesterday are here:

One week to go!September 29th, 2017

Hi folks!
Just one week to go now and I’m getting excited at the prospect of meeting everyone next Saturday morning. We meet at the Town Hall steps in the Market Place for 10:00 am but I’ll be aiming to get there a few minutes earlier, just in case. The walk is being officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Durham before we head off on our walk. Please wear appropriate clothing for the walk, check the weather forecast beforehand. I’m going into Durham in the morning to do another ‘reccy’ and will update everyone everyone afterwards.

I’m conscious that Durham will be very busy during our walk and our safety is of of paramount importance. Please be very careful when crossing roads and look out for traffic to warn fellow walkers.

All the best

What gear to take?September 19th, 2017

Hi folks!
There could be up to 50 people in our group and on a busy Saturday morning so I wouldn’t suggest bringing a tripod. I’ll be using my Canon camera with just one lens, a 24-70mm which is great for this type of event. Check out some gear tips from my friend Rick Sammon here:
All the best, Tony

Durham parking updateSeptember 18th, 2017

Hi folks!
There is plenty of parking in and around the City, together with an excellent Park and Ride system. I will be parking at the Prince Bishop’s Multi Storey Car Park which is close to the Market Place and Riverside. Further parking information is here:

Durham City WWPW update informationSeptember 14th, 2017

Hi folks! Thank you for registering for the Durham City WWPW which is now just over 3 weeks away. We will be meeting for a group shot at the Town Hall Steps in the Marketplace and our walk will be officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Durham. I’m still working on a finalised route for the walk and to give us a better chance of getting images we will finish at 12:00 noon instead of 11:30am originally planned. I’m delighted to announce that afterwards we will be having a social get-together on the Prince Bishop River Cruise from 12:30 to 13:30, an opportunity to enjoy a drink, socialise and relax with new friends with a chance to grab a few images from a different perspective. All the best, Tony

  • Tony Mearman Hello everyone Many thanks for signing up for the Durham WWPW and just to update you, I'm actively working to make it a huge success for everyone involved. I've done a couple of 'recces' to identify the best photo locations in and around the City and will share these with everyone in due course. I'm hoping to get the Mayor of Durham to welcome participants and to formall declare the walk open. You are invited to join us for a lunch afterwards and I'm hoping to book a special venue where we all can have a meet-up to share our experiences. There are lots of prizes for the best photos from around the world and you will have the opportunity to submit yours to the website after our walk. Durham has so many interesting sights, hopefully we can come up with some winners from our group! I'll keep you all posted on developments, let me know if you have a special favourite photo viewpoint you'd like to share with us. All the best, Tony

  • Tony Mearman Hi folks! I've just returned from a week's holiday and with less than 4 weeks to go, will be ramping up preparations for our walk during the coming week and I'll keep you all posted on what's happening. Thank you for registering for the Durham WWPW, I look forward to meeting everyone on the day. All the best, Tony

  • Nigel Hepplewhite Hey everyone, I ran the first Scott Kelby Photowalk in Durham in 2015. It was a great day with a great bunch of people so hopefully you'll get similar and the weather will hold! Having done two in Newcastle and one in Durham I'm looking to head over towards the lake district for this one :-) Have a great walk everyone!

  • Mackem Hi Nigel, many thanks for your contribution and apologies for assuming this is the first WWPW in Durham City. I moved up here just over a year ago and didn't know about your walk in 2015. It seems we have a great bunch of people joining us on the walk and I look forward to a successful walk for one and all. All the best!

  • Dave Murrell A great day Tony, thanks for organising

    • Mackem Thank you Dave!

  • Angela Ellis Super top day - enjoyed it thoroughly. Your opening address certainly raised the excitement.

    • Mackem Thank you Angy x
