Photo Walk Description
This is a 2km waterfall hike back and forth that follows along the Borer’s Creek up to Borer’s Falls along the Niagara Escarpment. The hike would be rated simple to moderate. Hiking boots are required. The creek bed exhibits goods examples of heavy stream erosion and the waterfall is also a very nice one in a narrow gorge. I am sports photographer and live in Dundas and enjoy landscape photography on the side.

Hi Roger: couldn’t find you on facebook, found your photography site but it had no links to the walk or yourself? Your not on “flickr” as far as I can see. You should sign up and join the HFG, there are over 600 of use photogs on here.
Would love to tag along for this walk.
David, aka “metro tiff ” on flickr.
Hi David,
It looks like I will need your help possibly in setting up the Flickr link after the hike
that’s ok. I was on their site yesterday and could not figure out what to do after creating a
Flickr group. I won’t have time to do this till after the hike though.
Roger
Logged in and the site sign up options opened up. forgot about that part, dah.
Greetings! Thanks for setting up a Sunday walk! Seeya There
Hi, this is Roger the walk leader. I would love to move the walk to 12 noon from 10am.
I don’t know the best way to get a reply from everyone (there are 10 signed up) . If you get an from the photowalk entity and are able to reply to that , great. Otherwise please email or call me if you can or can’t make a 12 noon start.
You can call me at 905-526-1026 or email me at specimage@gmail.com
Thanks
Roger
Hello Borer’s Creek Photowalkers,
I just wanted to send some last minute information (I’ll send an email as well) about our hike this Sunday at noon:
1. Wear long pants (protection against possible poison ivy) and hiking boots (ankle high if you have them). Running shoes are not a good idea.
2. Watch the weather reports as it could be a rainy cool day. Dress accordingly. Thin (garden type) gloves may also be good if it is a cold wet day. Don’t forget to bring water.
3. Bring protective gear for your camera if rain is a concern for you. A backpack is a very good idea as you will need to use your hands to negotiate some areas and it may be good to have your camera/equipment stowed for those times.
4. The hike is 1/3 simple, 2/3 moderate. The first 1/3 is on a defined path that goes to the lower falls area. The last 2/3rds is not on a defined path, but I have flagged this section all the way to the upper main falls. This section of the hike is made up primarily of: a) open forest with a dirt/rock ground cover, and b) rocky creek bed which can be quite slippery. This 2/3rds section also has numerous logs to climb over. There are 2 places, roughly 4′ in height, where we will need to help each other into and out of the creek bed (I’ve put some physical aids at these spots, too). The entire hike is under tall tree canopy except for the very end at the falls. If the sun shines it is quite a beautiful hike. Whatever the weather there are many, many different things to take pictures of on this hike.
5. Hiking to the upper falls without stopping would take roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour. We will be taking the same route back from the falls. Picture taking generally takes place on the way to the main subject so it may take us 2 hours or so to get to the upper falls.
6. We are meeting at the Thirsty Cactus in Dundas afterwards. It’s at the crossroads of King, Main and Cross. There should be ample street parking. I personally need to leave the Cactus at 5pm, but everyone’s welcome to stay on later, of course.
If anyone has any questions regarding the hike please email me at specimage@gmail.com. If you don’t hear back from me right away, I may be out of the service area, but I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.
Cheers
Roger Stermann
Hi Roger: Have been trying to find you on flickr and facebook with no luck. Got flickr and search for the “HFG” Hamilton Flickr Group” or search for me “metro tiff” add me as a contact so I can find you. Couldn’t find the borer’s creek group on flickr. I did join the “wwwpw group”.
A flickr group has been created for this group trip.

Hello Walkers: Was just on the main WWPW flickr site where there lots of topics about this walk page and the one on flickr. the one on flickr seems to be the main site for uploading the group shot and peoples personal shots to the proper threads and main group pool in addition to the one i created for Roger which is above this. When you login into to our walk page a dialogue box should show up in the right hand corner where each member can upload their favourite image to the contest. Only per person.
Hi Roger & Dave, Just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing all the background work for the photo walk. A couple of comments: 1) Who knew there was so much to photograph in the the rain in the woods (Like I would have gone if it wasn’t for the WWPW). When you actually take your time, the finer things un-looked become interesting through the lens. I did doddle a lot. 2)This event finally forced me to upload my first photographs on Flickr. Social media is ever changing and I just keep procrastinating until now. I really appreciate the feedback Kim. 3)It was very nice to meet some fellow local photographers with the same passion and commitment to our craft. Next time regardless of the weather the first rounds on me! Thanks again for getting our group together for the WWPW’11.
Best Regards, Robin L Wilson (AP)
Ha….was just reading Roger’s comments again…first 1/3 is simple….maybe not in the pouring rain…..what a day…that was so much fun. It was nice meeting everyone…..do we have to wait a year to get out again….maybe there are some closer falls we can get to. It is autumn after all. One of my favourites is Stephaine and I would be up for that at some point.
Your welcome Robin…thanks for capturing the day….my camera was tucked away most of the time.
Kim
Roger, I would like to add the group shot to the WWPW flickr site. Can you e-mail it to me.
I noticed that most walks were in city settings, I like that we went out into the woods for ours.
Should be WWPH instead of WWPW, WWPH stands for World Wide Photo Hike.
Gonna get me one those t-shirts they have on the main page as a soveniur,
Hi David, I’ll try to post the group shot myself so that I can see if I can get Flickr to work for me. I’ll let you know if I have trouble with that.
Hi Borer’s Creek Hikers,
Thank you all so much for coming out in the less than desirable weather! That was a fantastic turnout. I chose David Rees’ photo as the winner from our hike. I simply liked that it captured the goal for the hike with a combination of human scale, geology and hydrology. The gray scale image allowed those 3 elements to be given more emphasis I thought as well.
If anyone is interested, a friend and me are going out on the same hike again this Monday the 17th at noon. Hoping for some sun. The forest will also be looking quite different.
Also, there is poison ivy in that forest.
Hi Walkers:
Voting is open for people’s choice, link is on this page, you have to log in to vote. Our image is on page 5 under dundas, the pages are alphabetical order for cities. Help put Dundas on the map, vote today please.
