Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

As I write this there are 664 Photowalks worldwide and 11756 people going to be walking, so you should feel proud to be involved in the biggest photography event of its kind worldwide on the 24th of July, and from myself can I thank you all for signing up, hopefully this year we can avoid the rain (fingers crossed).

If you are an experienced photowalker or have never photowalked before one thing I can promise you is that you will have a great day socialising, do not worry about what type of camera you may have some photos from last year using cameras on mobile phones were stunning. Please do remember we are going to be walking for a while so stillettos and what not are probably best left at home. We are in Ireland so weather is unpredictable, last year we went from sunshine to torrential rain in minutes so bring some light rain gear but also pack in some sunscreen just in case. Have some nibbles with you just in case you get hungry although we will be passing numerous shops and things so food and drink is always nearby.

This is your walk and as such I have planned out a route but can change to suit ideas that you may have so please dont hesitate to let me know if you want to change anything. Following on from the previous 2 photowalks in Dublin I thought meeting at the Customs House was now a tradition. This year rather then walking to the east we shall walk to the west.

From the Customs House we shall walk by Liberty Hall and onwards to O’Connell Bridge taking in the views of the Liffey and up O’Connell Street. From there we shall head towards Temple Bar, taking in some of the attractions to be found there. Carrying on to the end of Temple Bar we shall visit Christchurch Cathedral and then turn back on ourselves and visit City Hall and Dublin Castle.

At present I am checking with a Bar in Temple bar about getting us an area reserved for afterwards. The walk should take no longer then 3 hours maximum but I am hoping for between 2-3 hours. As I always say this is more about having fun and meeting like minded individuals. If for any reason you need to drop out PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remove yourself from the walk. This year a waiting list has been implemented and already has people on it.

I really look forward to meeting you all on the 24th and if you want to add anything to the route please let me know in the comments and I am sure it can be arranged.

John Williams

A Flickr Group has been set up to upload all images from the day at http://www.flickr.com/groups/1446991@N24/ please note though that this is not for your competition entries which shall be done on this site information can be found here about the uploading process, only 1 image this year can be submitted http://worldwidephotowalk.com/2010/07/uploading-contest-images/. Thanks again to everyone who turned up and made the photowalk so enjoyable for me. I just hope you all had a great day too.

theres something serioious wrong with the site. I’ve tried two different systems, ie ISP and Hardware, to register and it still keeps hanaging

    • John Williams says:

      Hi Michael,

Other people are registering away, if the problem continues please let me know again and I will see what can be done.

      John

      • Michael O'Donoghue says:

I would be honoured to take part in the Photowalk

      • Bernard Dunne says:

fwiw… I had to use firefox – couldn’t see the register dialogue box when using IE.

        Now registered :)

  2. aafke says:

    hi john,

would love to join but am not sure whether i’ll be around then. what to do?

    • John Williams says:

Well you could register, and let me know closer to the date if the spot is needed or not, it is what happened last year with a good few people. Also I have spoken to someone else in Dublin about possibly setting up a second walk since demand was so high last year.

      John

  3. Susie Dwyer says:

    Hi John….
I’d like to join, but as always, not 100% sure til nearer the date :-/

    Susie

    • John Williams says:

Well since this walk only went live late last night and only got a push about an hour ago, I imagine it will fill up quickly, but I do reckon a second Dublin walk may well be on the cards.

  4. philip scanlon says:

As far as I know, the site worked ok for me, just now. Filled in form and all seemed ok. Maybe a minor glitch.

    • John Williams says:

I imagine Philip since the site is still in its infancy Michael may have just been unfortunate with a site update or something cause by all account the registrations are coming in at a phenomenal rate.

  5. dakar says:

Awww, missing out on this for the second year running, stoopid working weekends :(

    Have a great time!

  6. brenda cushen says:

  8. brenda cushen says:

giving up it wont let me join

    • John Williams says:

I shall get in touch with the organizers in a while, maybe server problems their end. There is not more I can do since I have no real control over the registrations.

      John

  9. Martin King says:

Just managed to register successfully. No problems.
    Martin

  10. Elliot Tucker says:

    \o/

    See ya there dooooods.

  11. Keith G says:

Definitely interested. I’ll figure some way to get there. I’ve never been to anything like this, could you send on some more info? Basically, just what I’d need to bring with, cheers :)

    • John Williams says:

Just bring yourself, a camera of any shape of type, some nibbles while out and about and mainly rain gear in case it rain and also sunscreen in case the sun appears. That is really it.

Also since the walk is going from Customs House as far as Christchurch a good pair of walking shoes is a priority.

      John

  12. Keith Gaule says:

    Registered :)

  13. Jonathan Grimes says:

    I’m in.

  14. Tara Mundow says:

i’m on the waiting list…. was off line since last thursday…. due to web glitch…. fingers crossed i gt a place

  15. Paulo Nuno says:

amazing, second time that i miss this walk, they should make each walk limited to 100 people !!

    • John Williams says:

Oh my god trying to herd 100 people around would be a little mental, but what I will say Paulo is get your name on the waiting list or else you could join Richards Walk in Kilmainham.

Anyhow I am sure a spot will come available for you.

  16. Oona Tully says:

This was great last year. As I’m too late for Dublin 2010, I’m heading west for the Galway Walk! Have fun everyone.

    • John Williams says:

Pity to miss you this year Oona, but I hope the Galway walk proves to be as much fun! enjoy it.

  17. sharon oneill says:

    on waiting list. I hope!

  18. sharon oneill says:

and i’m on the wait list.. or should I look at another walk in dub? John?

    • John Williams says:

Well there is another walk in Kilmainham that may be worth looking at, but I have no problems with people tagging along, the only issue would be that you may not get to be eligible for the main competition.

  19. Ben Chapman says:

Waiting list :( Is it OK to tag along even if I can’t enter the competition?

  20. aafke says:

    hmmm, bloody foreigner i am,
if i knew where to find the ‘unregister’-button, i.e. how to remove myself, ben -or someone else- could take my place.

sorry john, i could not find the answer in the faqs

    • John Williams says:

You could ask @nonsequitir or @shane_murphy they were successfull in unregistering.

I will have a look and see if I can figure it out

      • aafke bakker says:

it’s done… did some jigsaw-puzzling and managed (however sad about it, hope it brightened somebody’s day)
        thanks all the same,
        from this 〬〬〬〬 foreigner

      • John Williams says:

Thanks for getting it sorted and so sorry you cant make it, but it looks like Tara shall be happy to have got included now!

  21. Blaithin says:

I cant go on this walk now so that should open a spot for someone else.

  22. Garrett Hayes says:

Well, I seem to be the odd one out. I went on line as soon as I heard of the walk on NAPP news and registered without any problems.

    I just hope that I am registered…….

    • John Williams says:

Hi Garrett, I have had a look at the list and your name is not there? I have no control over this side of the side, so it may be worthwhile talking to the organisers if you feel your registration did not go through correctly, alternatively there is a walk happening in Kilmainham with spaces available too.

      John

  23. Mary Nolan says:

Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make it any longer – think I have managed to unregister but if not let me know and I can try again!

Hopefully someone on the wait list can take my place

    • John Williams says:

Thats a shame Mary, and it does seem you have unregistered yourself from the walk, thank you for that.

      John

  24. Tony Hickey says:

Unfortunately and sadly I have withdrawn from this walk…. my place has been taken … so this is good.!

Look forward to the next time..
    Tony H.

  25. Nick Turner says:

    Hi John

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. However I cannot find the link to leave the walk/unregister, I have tried in multiple browsers, but no joy.

    Any suggestions
Cheers and I hope you have a good turnout

  26. John, I’m going to have to pull out of this due to unforeseen circumstances. How do I unregister?

  27. Denis O'Donovan says:

It’s ok, logged in, reloaded the page and was able to do it. Sorry about the short notice but couldn’t help it.

  28. Margaret Brown says:

    Hi John
I’m really sorry but now I cannot make the walk tomorrow. I don’t know how to unregister. Can anyone help? Thanks and enjoy the walk. Weather looks promising.

  29. Margaret Brown says:

I’ve just found it. I saw the login in up in the top right hand corner and logged in that way. Hopefully someone else might be glad of the space. Enjoy.

  30. Philip Hennessy says:

    John

I hate to pull out at such short notice, but unfortunately something has come up and I must bow out.
I hope you all have a very enjoyable day

    Philip

  31. John Williams says:

Thank you guys for informing me you cant make it and for also taking your names of the list, this years registration really worked very well.

  32. Susie Dwyer says:

I’m so sorry for this last minute notice.. Wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday, thought I might be ok but have a stinkin headache still.. I’d nearly say migraine.
Really wish I could be there but don’t think talking photos is the beat thing to do with a headache like this!

So so sorry, hope you have a great day :-)
    Sorry,
    Susie

  33. Susie Dwyer says:

I mean taking photos is the best thing, not talking photos is the beat thing as written above!

  34. Clodagh O Donnell says:

    John
