About This Walk
EDIT as of September 20, 2017: The scheduled walk time has been moved back to 11 a.m. Hope you can still make it!
Thanks for joining the Downtown Allentown, New Jersey (Not PA!) photowalk. We live in such a photo-rich environment, this will be a great way to showcase our town, while having some fun with photography, meeting new people and enjoying a Fall day. A short (1-2 mile) course will be followed from The Moth through the town and then back to The Moth. During the way, you can shoot whatever strikes your fancy – detail shots, landscapes, portraits. When we return to The Moth, we can review our photos and then discuss. Participants can have one image from their walk submitted to me for the contest, and I’ll pick the winning image. The winner will receive a copy of Scott Kelby’s The Photoshop CC Book For Digital Photographers e-book, and will also be in the running for the Grand Prize.
I’ve participated in these photowalks before but this is the first one I’m leading. I’ve been shooting seriously for nearly 10 years, and have had images published on book covers, album covers, in New Jersey magazine, in the Financial Times and in The Guardian (UK). Telling the visual story is what I like to do. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, find out more about what I like to shoot by visiting www.jerseystylephotography.wordpress.com
Let’s have some fun!
Has anyone submitted to the contest?October 15th, 2017
I know they extended the time to submit an image for the Photowalk contest. I just went into my Leader page to check submissions (as I’m supposed to select one) but I don’t see a Submissions tab for me to click on. I don’t know if that’s a bug on the Kelby photowalk site, or if perhaps no one has submitted?
If you have submitted for the contest, drop me a quick note and let me know. It may be a bug on the site that I have to contact someone about.
It’s certainly not a requirement to submit anything, but there were some really nice photos. If you haven’t submitted, I’d consider doing so. If not, no worries…but make prints!
Link To Photowalk PhotosOctober 12th, 2017
Once again, thanks to everyone who come last Saturday to our Photowalk. I had a great time meeting everyone, and, by the looks of the photos I’ve gotten, looks like you all had a good time too. Some really nice shots here.
For those that sent me some photos to me to post, here’s a link to the my website where I have them. I put the name of the person who shot it in the caption. I don’t think you can see the names if you view in Slideshow mode, but if you click through via thumbnails you can see it.
Here’s the link: https://goo.gl/dyJLRD
(Not sure if this will hyperlink, you may have to cut and paste)
Feel free to continue to send me photos if you haven’t and I’ll add them to this folder. And don’t forget about submitting your pics for the contest. I think you have until Sunday the 15th to do that. You should have gotten information on how to do this in an email last week. If anyone needs it, though, shoot me an email and I’ll send it to you.
And, if you want to come see Allentown again, we have our Fall Festival this weekend. Food, music, a beer garden, arts, crafts, scarecrows you can make. It’s a fun time. Saturday and Sunday, both days. I know we’ll stop by at some point.
Enjoy the rest of your fall – keep in touch!
Thank you!October 7th, 2017
Thanks so much for coming out to help make our Allentown, NJ photowalk a success. It was great to chat with so many of you (and get some shooting in too!)
Often, when I go out shooting, I go to “see what I can see.” I’d love to see – and share with the group – what you all saw. I think the best way may be for you do some editing down of your images, and send me your 3 to 5 favorites as JPG files to my email – email@example.com
I’ll set up a folder on my website, upload your images there, then share the link with everyone to see. I’ll also put our photowalk group photo in there, and you can download it if you like.
Again, I hope you had a good time, and enjoyed a little visit to my hometown. I hope our paths cross down the road sometime!
Photowalk Checklist and Final ThoughtsOctober 6th, 2017
Tomorrow is the day! It looks like the weather will be nice for our Worldwide Photowalk – Warm, with sun and clouds.
Here’s a few things I wanted to share so that you have what you need to have a fun day:
Meeting point: The Moth Coffeehouse in the Old Mill on Main Street. Since the group is now officially large (34 are registered!) we may just meet up outside the Old Mill rather than take up to much room inside. However, from about 12:30 on, The Moth will have a few tables reserved for our group should you wish to go inside and get a refreshment.
Walk Checklist for tonight/tomorrow morning:
• Mark’s cell phone: 732-266-9676
• Prep camera & Lens(es)
• Charge batteries, or bring extras.
• Clear cards
• Bring water (or purchase locally if needed)
• Meet new people
• Have fun
PARKING: Since I’m not sure how many are actually from town, but I know a few are from other parts of NJ, here’s where there is parking In Allentown:
• On the side of the Old Mill / Moth Coffeehouse
• Down the dirt driveway behind the Old Mill
• On Main Street (free, no meters)
• At the lot by Heritage Park (off of Church Street, a short walk then to the Old Mill)
• A small lot at Sensi Park, across the street from the Old Mill
Some visual ghlights in and around where we will be:
• The Old Mill and surrounding buildings
• A nature path through the woods from the lake to Heritage Park and back
• An interesting bamboo forest behind the Old Mill
• The Old Presbyterian Cemetery (about 1 mile away)
Refreshments (before, during and after the walk)
• The Moth Coffeehouse, of course!
• Woody’s Diner on Main Street
• Heavenly Hands Ice Cream on Main Street
• La Piazza, 11 Church Street (just off of Main)
• BerryRich Bakery on Main Street
• One Sweet Ride chocolate, in the back o Bruno’s Bicycles on Main
Finally, we will want to do a group shot to send to Scott Kelby. Gotta show Scott how small town New Jersey represents!
And, in case you missed it, there will be prizes available form Scott Kelby. Read up on it here: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/prizes/
I think that’s about it. Above call, keep my number handy. No need to call if you can’t make it, but if you need help with anything, please don’t hesitate to call or text me.
See you Saturday morning!
One Week Till Our Photowalk!September 30th, 2017
Just a reminder: One week till our photowalk! Again, we’ll gather at The Moth Coffeehouse at 11 a.m. and proceed from there. I’m in the process of mapping out a route now…though it will be a pretty loose route. People can go where they want, really, and then we’ll be back up around 1 at The Moth. The weather looks to be nice, as of today at least, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
We’re up to 31 participants for our walk. Nineteen spots are still open.
If anything changes, I’ll be sure to let you know! In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.
See you all soon,
New Walk Time: 11 a.m.September 20th, 2017
After checking in with everyone (and even a few people who are interested but not registered yet), we’re going to move the walk time up to 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There were a number of considerations here, and I know this still may not be the best for everyone. I hope, though, that all can still make it!
More details to come in the next week or so. Keep your fingers crossed now for nice weather!
Any questions, call, text (732-266-9676) or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org)!
All the best,
Potential time change for walkSeptember 14th, 2017
Hi everyone, first of all, we are up to 23 participants, which is great. Thanks for your interest.
For a couple of reasons, I am exploring a time change, from when it’s currently scheduled (5-7 pm.) to earlier in the day – either earlier in the morning (around 8 a.m., when the morning light is nice) mid-morning (11 a.m. start time) or 2 p.m.
I know Saturdays, especially in the Fall, are busy for all. There is also the factor of The Moth closing at 4. If we had to switch it to one of those three time frames, which would you prefer? Personally, I’m leaning to earlier in the morning. If you can think about this and let me know (via email – email@example.com) by Saturday night, September 16th, that would be great.
And, ps: September has started…back up all those great images from the summer! Phones and Facebook won’t last forever.:-)
