Photo Walk Description

We will meet down near the Light Rail side of Union station to do late afternoon and early evening shooting. There are lots of scenic nature and man made opportunities that we can photograph along with interesting people shots on 16th Street mall. As always this walk is open to anyone with a camera of any type just come meet new people, have some fun, and enjoy your photography. Take a look at last years photos from our Mt Evans event
2010 Walk
This will be my third year leading a walk hope to see you there. I am open to suggestions on where we can go if we get bad weather so let me know your ideas

I sent this as an email as well.

    SCAVENGER HUNT HELP!
Since this is the first year I have tried the scavenger hunt I am learning how to work this and since Flickr is not the most robust site (IMHO) we have to improvise which will require some work on your part to participate in the voting process.

First and VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure you put in your title or description when you upload your images what category your image is for (see below).
so we can sort them and let everyone pick the favorites.
    Something Soft,
    Something Cold,
    something like lightning,
    something tranquil
    something wet

PROCESS FOR VOTING (SORRY THIS GOT WAY MORE COMPLEX THAT I WANTED)
    1. Go to our Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/groups/mt_evans_co/
    2. in the SEARCH box put in the key word for the category (soft, cold, lightning, tranquil or wet)
    3. You should get the photos that match that category on your screen.
    4. Pick the one you like the most and click on it to open
    5. In the comments box please enter type in the work “vote” to vote for it.
    6. Make sure to submit it and you are done.
I will talley the number of “votes” each image gets highest one wins and I will break the tie.

Voting can begin on Sunday 10-9-11 (if you are anxious it will open at midnight) and will close by 10-15-11
REsults will be posted (I hope) by 10-22-11.

    Any questions let me know.

  • Last Minute Details

I send this out as an email so I will duplicate it here just make sure everyone get the details
It is 1 day, 23 hours, 11 minutes, 44 seconds (at the time I wrote this sentence) to our walk.
Charge the batteries, format the cards, clean the lens or lenses, find the tripod and maybe your lost keys!
Bring a jacket and dont forget a flashlight as it will get dark on us (sunset is at 6:43 with Twilight around 7:10 PM)
Bring some water and snacks if you like.

I will have the infamous scavenger hunt list ready to go.

Lets meet at the North East corner of 16th street and Wynkoop (look at the Mapon the photo walk page) just next to the station parking lot and afterward we can meet at the same spot so if you get lost meet back there at 8:00 PM.

We will have to work around the construction behind the station and stay on 16th street to go towards Confluence Park.

the number 1 thing is to be safe and have some fun.

Also here are some important dates if you want to submit your photo for consideration for the Photowalk prizes.
Walkers will have until 10:00 AM MDT October 7th to submit your best photo to me for the contest.
Submit them to our flikr page
    2010 Walk

  • ONE WEEK AWAY!

I sent this as an email to the group and I am posting that info here as well just to make sure everyone has access to it.
See you at the walk next week
    FROM EMAIL TO THE GROUP

    Greetings fellow Photowalkers,
I am looking forward to next Saturday. Let’s hope the weather gods continue to offer this great SumFall weather. I have the max 50 people signed up but for those of you on the wait list I would suggest (unofficially, of course) that you show up as I would suspect that some folks will have things come up and will not make the walk. Also I am looking for some volunteer leader helpers ( 3 or 4 folks) who can help kind of keep track of your group as I know that we will scatter about. So let me know if you want to be an assistant (sorry there is no pay and you won’t get your own TV show, but you do get my gratitude and thanks for helping. Plus you get experience so you too can be a walk leader next year and maybe even win the lotto:)

To add a little fun to the walk I want to have a photo scavenger hunt.
    Here is how it works
    1. Try to find a photographic representation of the five items on the list *hint there is not “one correct” item to photograph look for something that you think matches and take a photo of it.
    2. We will have two categories
Category 1: unaltered images (you can sharpen, fix exposure and crop no other tweaks allowed) we have to trust you on this one.

Category 2: Anything goes no limits Photoshop alteration, go crazy. Be prepared to answer the emails of “How did you do that?
    3. You can’t use the same subject for both categories it must be a different subject in each image.
    4. You are only allowed to submit 5 images per category so a total of 10 per photographer(5 form cat 1 and 5 from cat 2)
5.Images must be submitted by 10-8-2011 to be considered for the contest.
    6. voting must be completed by 10-15-11 (Hey it’s like a part time job for me now!)
    7. In the case of a tie I will pick the winner and I am the ultimate decision maker. (my contest my rules)
    8. Try it this is fun adds some interest to you photowalk.

if I missed anything please reply to this email or post on the photowalk page and I will answer.

We will post these on our Flickr page:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/mt_evans_co/

and everyone can vote for which one is the best representation of what was on the list. Sorry there is not a prize but you would get bragging rights and self satisfaction and I am disqualifying myself from the competition.
To keep it on the up and up I will have the list with me on Saturday and will give it to everyone that shows up.

So gear up and be ready to have a ton of fun. check the site during the week to see if we have any updates and I will email the group on Wednesday with any changes if they come up.

Look forward to meeting everyone next week.

  • Walk is full but don't worry

The walk is full but I say the more the merrier. So please sign up for the wait list and we can stay in contact with any updates on the walk.
I might add a second walk and I hope to finalize this by early next week.

  • Just staying in touch

    Hello,
I hope everyone is enjoying the last weeks of summer. I know its hot but, you will be shoveling snow soon enough so enjoy it.
We have had a lot of signups (I though it was my great Photowalk leadership skills, but it as it turns out mine is the only walk in Denver so far) I think they will add some more walks, but for now I am looking forward to meeting up with everyone in October.
I will post comments to the walk site and not send you emails unless it is important information about the walk (the don’t want us to spam you and I agree)
Please feel free to leave any comments
PS. I am trying to get an early morning walk same day in a cool location, It is pending approval so we will see. If they don’t make it an official walk I will let you know what I am doing and whoever wants to can join me. I will keep everyone posted.
    Thanks

  • What a response!

I am very excited about the number of walkers that have signed up already we have a total of 14 people in 5 days! Looking forward to meeting everyone and I see a few folks that I already know. Lets hope the weather gods smile upon us on that day:)
I will post more as I get updates in the meantime here are some tips on Street Shooting to get you ready for our walk

There is some construction going on at Union Station so you might want to check that out first.

Hoping the early snow up here in the high country doesn’t keep me away. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I have done the past two walks in Madisonville, KY and Nashville, TN. Can’t wait for this go around.

  3. Ray Wilson says:

    Bruce:

I really hope that you put together a second walk, as I seem to always find out too late or the walks are too far away for a casual afternoon/evening of shooting.

  4. Bob Farley says:

Sorry to have to bail on you guys…. I have few weekends off with the little lady and so we are going to venture west to Arches National Park. Enjoy the walk.

  5. Lisa Hansen says:

Hey Bruce, I had some transportation issues (light rail) and by time I got to the meeting place (5:18) everyone was gone. Not to waste a good night (and I figured I would see some folks in bunches with cameras, which I did not), I did some shooting. If I find 5 I like can I still submit them? If so, please give me details. Thank you for your consideration. Lisa Hansen.
