Photo Walk Description

Delaware City Photowalk, open to all!! We will start by the old cinema in Fort DuPont State Park. We will then walk through the park (lots of boarded up buildings will make for some interesting subjects or backdrops) and then down Canal street into Delaware City. Along the way you’ll see many boats in the canal, there are several churches two blocks over on Clinton St. and also a Blacksmith shop at Clinton and William Streets. Finally we will arrive at the park by the river which could have some large ships going by as well as several interesting little shops, including our destination: Crabby Dick’s. There you’re welcome to buy a drink and snack and share your photos with each other. Parking is up to you: Park in the park and walk back at the end, or park by Crabby Dick’s and walk over to the park for the start.

  • Tough Choices!

    All the photos submitted were great and it was a tough choice. So tough that I cheated and showed the photos to a few different groups of people I was having meetings with this week for their input! It helped narrow down the field to 2 or 3, but it was still a coin toss between them! Congrats Jill! Lots of great shots on the Flickr page too!

    Assuming the walk will be in October in 2012, I will not be able to lead another walk so I’d encourage any of you to sign up to lead a walk in the area!

    Thanks to everyone who came out even in not perfect weather! Hopefully you had some fun, energized your photography and made some new contacts. But….

    You’re not done yet!

    To enter the contest for Scott Kelby’s book, you need to upload your best photo to this page by October 7th. I will then have to pick which one I think is best and you win the book and are entered into the world wide competition for some major prizes!

    Second, upload as many photos as you care to share to http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpwdc2011/ (please note this is different from a previous address I sent). No competition, just sharing for others to enjoy, download or comment on.

    Finally you can upload to the worldwide Flickr group at, http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/pool/. I’ve uploaded our group photo for all to see!

  • Today's the day

    The photowalk weekend is off to a good start…I received a Flikr feed from a friend that went on a walk in Atlanta yesterday and he got some great shots! We’re still on for today, even though the weather doesn’t look that great. I sent out a ‘contact walkers’ message Thursday night, but it may not have gone through so I’ll repeat some of that here:

    Where to meet:
    in front of the old movie theater in the Ft. duPont state park. Plenty of places to park, but there are still some government offices there so just make sure there is not a ‘no parking sign.’ We will walk from there out of the part, across the small canal and down canal street to Crabby Dicks. You can go by yourself, in pairs, groups etc… What ever you feel comfortable in, and can take your time to get the shots you want. It’s about a 2 mile walk so plan your time accordingly to arrive at Dick’s by about 5:30 to share your shots. Dick’s is expecting us, so just let them know when you arrive so they can direct you to where everyone else is.

    What to wear:
    - comfortable shoes
    - clothing for the temp and probable rain

    What to bring:
    - camera! Anything will do, iPhone to dSLR
    - extra lenses, tripods, flashes etc… Depending upon what type of shots you’re interested in taking
    - water, snacks
    - phone to call me at if you’re lost getting to the start or along the route!

    Think about:
    - you can take photos of anything that looks good, or you can challenge yourself to only take shots in a theme: a certain color, doors, windows, door knobs, vehicles, HDR’s anything to constrain yourself so you really have to work for the shot…it’s up to you
    - talk to your fellow walkers about what they’re trying, great opportunity to learn and share

    Hey there. I was looking for other walks near me to do! I already participated in the walk in my town in Maryland. I’m not too familiar with Delaware… especially not this town… so uh, I hope I won’t have trouble finding this old cinema or whatever.
