Photo Walk Description
We are going to explore the historic district in downtown Dallas, home of some of the most well-known historic buildings in the city as well as some of the famous skyscrapers. Beginning with the 1892 Old Red Courthouse/Museum, and then continuing to some of the newer skyscrapers, followed by historic buildings such as The Adolphus Hotel and the Magnolia, with Pegasus flying high on top! We’ll pass the flagship Neiman Marcus store from 1914, the Wilson Building from 1904 and work our way to Campisi’s Restaurant at 1520 Elm St.
I’m a volunteer docent for the Dallas Center for Architecture and a section of this walk is on our Main Street District Tour, so I’ll be able to fill you in on little-known tidbits of info on the buildings and our city’s history.
I have set up a flickr page for everyone to upload their pictures to. I have added a few examples of some of the great buildings that we’ll pass on the route. http://www.flickr.com/photos/photowalkdallas/ User name: photowalkDallas Password: mainstreet
Our reservation at Campisi’s is at 12:30 pm and is under the name “PhotoWalk Dallas.”
I uploaded a parking map to the flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photowalkdallas/6196520803/in/photostream
It’s not an ideal map but it shows where all the lots and garages are and also has street names, even though they are sometimes blurry and hard to read. Read the description for the legend. Most lots are $5-$8 on the weekends… some take cards and some don’t, so to be safe, bring cash! Also, pay close attention to the signs. Some of them say the price for weekends in smaller letters so you don’t notice that it costs more. I would definitely not recommend parking at a meter because they are only good up to two hours before you have to feed them again or they’ll tow.
I also uploaded a map of the route that you may want to print out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photowalkdallas/6196529619/in/photostream
See the description for helpful tips on both maps.
Bring extra batteries, memory cards, water, sunscreen, and whatever camera equipment you prefer…. totally up to you!
I think that’s it for now. If you can think of anything else you would like me to cover, please let me know!
See you Saturday!

I’m excited to join you for the 1st time.
Besides the camera what do you suggest me to bring? Tripod? What lens?…
Where should I park?
Thanks,

Glad you can join us! Feel free to bring any camera or camera equipment that suits the kind of photos you want to take. Just one tip… there are a lot of interesting details on buildings and such that you might want to zoom in on.
I’m going to send out an email to everyone tomorrow (if not later tonight) with parking options, last-minute advice etc. and I’ll also put it on this page as well.
I truly enjoyed this photo walk. Dianna did a great job of organizing us and picked a great spot for lunch.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Billy. I can’t wait to see everyone’s pictures!
Thanks Dianna for organizing this photo walk. I enjoyed it a lot. Where do we upload the photo for the contest ? How manu pictures can we upload ? Thanks again !
Hi Maddalena,
It looks like you should now be able to upload to your contest submission on this walk page… but I will sending an email sometime today with info as well.
Although we got away from the group for a good portion of the walk and couldn’t stay for lunch, this was a GREAT walk and Dianna was a great leader… it was like a photowalk with a free guided tour.
Had a blast!
Glad you had fun, Sarah and thanks for the compliments! It’s very easy to wander off in that area… so many things to see!
Hi, guys! I’m the Walk Leader for the Jerusalem, Israel PhotoWalk and I shoot architecture. I’m now looking at the People’s Choice voting and Cindy’s winning shot caught my attention. Great vision, great execution. Very nice! I’m voting for you.
