Photo Walk Description

Hi, Welcome! Our Ohio River Photo Walk is scheduled for Saturday AM. In case of inclement weather, we’ll go Sunday, Oct 2, same time.

Walk Details:
No tripods please! I’m so excited to lead you on a photographic safari along the most beautiful part of the Ohio River, including the Suspension Bridge, views of the Cincinnati Skyline, and some cool spots in Northern Kentucky along Riverside Drive. After the walk, we’ll share our photos at Skyline Chili!

About Me: My husband, Glenn Hartong, and I are totally addicted to Photojournalism. He’s been a photographer at the Cincinnati Enquirer for over 20 years. I’ve been a staff news photographer too, and we’ve both had our work published around the world.

I’m blessed to share my passion for photography every week, leading 1 to 1 & group photography workshops for all ages & skill levels, beginner to pro, at Evendale Cultural Arts Center. I’ve used Nikon as well as Canon DSLRs, with lenses from 12-400.

I have tons of tips to share with you on our walk! Please visit my site at HartongDigitalMedia.com for more of our work…. I can’t wait for October 1! We’re going to have a blast! See you soon! (again – please – no tripods. too many legs already. Malinda will share tips to avoid needing “sticks”.)

Quote from current class member
“I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed the 1st lesson. As soon as I got home, I took your advice and shot a couple of dozen pictures … all of a sudden, things started to gel for me and now I am going around taking shot after shot of everything that strikes my mood. I’m having a blast!”

Remind me on Saturday to share how I met Glenn – it’s so photo funny!

  • Welcome!

Hi there! I’m so excited about our upcoming photo walk! Remember, space is limited so please reserve your spot asap! And tell your friends! Not that you won’t meet new great folks along our safari, but having a walk buddy is so cool for sharing photos!
We’ll be walking about 2 miles, so get out those good shoes! This walk is open to ages 12 up (12-17 with a parent or guardian please – guardians dont need to register, but message me so I can give the restaurant a head count.
Remember to join our Flickr group – open to our walk participants. http://www.flickr.com/groups/ohio_river_walk/ Send me a note if you have any questions on flickr or any other questions. Visit my facebook page at http://facebook.com/hartongdigitalmedia or my website, or twitter @HartongDigital if the weather is iffy on Saturday for info if we need to switch to Sunday. I’m stoked! Hi! I tried to register and it said my name was already in use…
I am not sure what to do now. I took a class of yours in the Spring, and
am hoping to take more.. Would love to do this walk!

    Thanks

    Elaine

  2. Jennifer Haralamos says:

Have not participated in Photo Walk before but am really looking forward to learning new things and meeting new people! I’d appreciated knowing any suggested lenses to bring. I’ve got a fairly wide variety but am thinking my 18-55 and/or 70-200. Thoughts? Thanks!

  3. Hi Jennifer – you’ll want the wide 18-55 zoom for the bridge, some skyline shots, and wide shots of the river from the park in the historic district. The long 70-200 zoom will be great for details of the bridge & historic district as well.
Personally I switch back & forth between a Nikon 12-24 and 70-200. If you have a lens pouch, that would be easier to carry than a full-blown camera bag. Some of the longer zooms come with one. “After-market” ones are available online as well as a few local shops.
Looking forward to seeing you at the walk!

  4. thomas says:

Malinda I tryed sighning up for the walk not sure if it went through… Hope there’s room… Ill try to get in contact with you tomorrow thank’s….

  11. We’ll invade Skyline Chili at 3rd & Philadelphia afterward – so we’ll go back to our cars & drive to lunch/chat. Cool?

    FORECAST
It’s only getting up to 60 degrees with gusts of 35 mile per hour winds expected, and wind off the river is COLD – so layer it up folks! I’d even recommend fingerless gloves in your coat pocket just in case. And SOCKS to combat froze toes. Cant have any fun if you’re cold – been there – trust me.

You’ve heard about the canyon effect right? Wind squeezed through tall buildings is even stronger. Good thing we’ll be in Covington & not downtown Cincy. Those other guys may really get wind-blown!

Regardless, that warm chili is will taste so good afterward!

  12. Zachary Spradlin says:

Hey, I just learned about this and am pretty excited. We’re moving to Covington as soon as we close on our house (hopefully friday).

I might have to bail early on the Skyline for my niece’s first birthday party, I hope that’s ok and I can still join in on the walk.

  13. Dakota Stone says:

    Just signed up!

  14. Let me know if you’re not planning to go to Skyline so I can give them a close headcount. It’s ok to be a few off but I’d like to get close so they have the space ready for us.

Remember to dress for the weather. It’s always a few degrees colder as well as windier near the river. Layers are best as you know. Wind resistant jacket is on top of my personal list, and gloves. High for Saturday is set for mid-50s. Friday night low 40s.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Remember – no tripods please. And visit the blog for the map or nkycc website for parking information.

Looking forward to a great group of new & old friends tomorrow!

  15. Dakota Stone says:

Me and Austin Howell wont be able to make it to the skyline part afterwards. Just letting you know.

  16. Jennifer Haralamos says:

Hi Malinda – I won’t be able to go to Skyline…sorry to miss!

  17. Kalli Hulse says:

Sorry, but not attending Skyline afterwards.

  18. you can add up to 5 photos to Scott Kelby’s flickr group. : )
Remember to add 1 here for the contest before 10/7, noon, EST.
Photo size of 1 mb or slightly less please. Thanks!

  19. Johnny Logsdon says:

  20. denise johnson says:
