Photo Walk Description

Hi Everyone!

I’m very excited to lead a photo walk on the Outer Banks for the 2nd year in a row. Last year, we had a group of 20 walkers along the Manteo waterfront. This year, I’m planning to head north to Corolla, NC to the Currituck Heritage Park. This is a great area along the Currituck Sound full of very interesting subjects to photograph, including the Whalehead Club and the Currituck Lighthouse.

This year, I’ve set the time for Saturday evening to hopefully take advantage of the best light possible.

Before departing for the walk, I’d like to invite you each to a cook out at my gallery in Nags Head, approximately 30 miles south of Corolla. I’ll have some more details on this shortly.

Saturday, October 1st:

2PM-4PM – Cookout
4PM-5PM – Depart Nags Head for Corolla
5PM-7PM – Photowalk
After 7PM – TBD (we’ll coordinate a place to grab refreshments in Corolla or Duck after the walk)

For folks that want to skip the cookout, you’re welcome to meet us directly at the park at 5PM.

I hope you’ll consider joining us!

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for participating in the Worldwide Photo Walk in Corolla. I had a great time meeting everyone and I hope that each of you did as well and came home with some great photographs.

Several folks have already started sharing, but I just wanted to remind everyone of where they can upload images:

The Flickr group for the Corolla walk:

Worldwide Flickr group for all participants:

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/

If you’re interest in submitting a photo to the worldwide contests, please do so on the wwpw website prior to 10/7/11 @ 12PM. You’ll need to login and upload your image to:

    http://www.worldwidephotowalk.com

I’ll choose a winner and that person will receive a copy of Scott Kelby’s “Light It, Shoot It, and Retouch It” book and go on to compete for prizes with the other worldwide winners.

I hope we can do this again soon!

    Best,
    Matt

  • Just 48 Hours Away!

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to send one last final update before our walk on Saturday. The weather on Saturday is shaping up to be perfect – I hope it holds!

Please remember to bring bug spray. There has been a lot of standing water since Irene and from all the rain we’ve been having. I’m expecting there to be mosquitos on Saturday evening. Sunblock and a bottle or two of water is also a good idea.

We’ll start having the food ready around 2PM at the gallery.

I’ve arrange with the Christmas Mouse for additional parking. They have a large lot with many empty spaces near their rear exit onto Wrightsville Ave. It’s no more than 200 yards to the gallery from there. If you’re not sure where it is, just pull by the gallery and I can easily point it out.

Since we’re having the cookout beforehand, there are no current plans for gathering after the walk concludes. When we meet on Saturday afternoon, we can make a decision if some participants want to meet somewhere after the walk is over.

After the walk, I invite you to upload your photos to the Flickr group for the Corolla walk:

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/1742263@N25/

As well as the Worldwide Flickr group for all participants:

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw4/

If you’re interest in submitting a photo to the worldwide contests, please do so on the wwpw website prior to 10/7/11 @ 12PM.

    http://www.worldwidephotowalk.com

Someone from our group will win a free copy of Scott Kelby’s – Light It, Shoot It, Retouch It book… so it’s definitely worthwhile to upload your favorite photo of the walk to at least the wwpw website.

I believe that’s all – any questions, please email me or give me a call at 252-256-7007.

    See you all on Saturday!

  • Less than 10 days away!

I’m really looking forward to our walk in Corolla at the Heritage Park on October 1st! I just wanted to post a few updates for everyone.

First and foremost, I have talked with another local photographer, educator, and friend, Dan Beauvais who will also be hosting a walk in Manteo, NC on Saturday morning from 6:15AM – 8:30AM. This is a great opportunity if folks are looking to “make a day out of it” by attending the walk that Dan is leading in Manteo, coming over for the cookout in the afternoon, and then attending our walk in Corolla. Dan and I plan to attend each others walks and are excited about a fun filled day of photography!

In order to register for the Manteo walk, visit http://www.tinyurl.com/wwpw-manteo

Unfortunately, you can only register for 1 walk per email account… so if you’re interested in attending both, you will have to use another email address or something free from GMail, Yahoo, etc.

Our schedule is still as listed above. I’ll start having food prepared around 2PM and feel free to stop by any time after that.

Lastly, some updates for our pre-walk cookout:

    Gallery Address / Location:

210 E. Gallery Row, Nags Head, NC 27959
    Phone: (252) 256-7007

Around MP10.5 between the highways, however there is no direct access from Rt. 158. You will want to look for E. Driftwood St if turning from 158, then just proceed 1 short block south to Gallery Row.

It’s best to just pop this into Google Maps, Mapquest, or a Navigation system if you have one.

    Where should I park?

I’ll have more information on this shortly. I hope to partner with a business just a few hundred yards away for extra parking. There are just 6 spaces at the gallery and we’ll be using most of those for our cookout. You can park on the street on Wrightsville Ave or Memorial Ave.

    What should I bring?

Obviously your camera gear for the walk! For the cookout, please just bring a camping / beach chair. Since we have a ~45 minute drive to our walk location, I’ll just be serving bottled water, soft drinks, etc. If you would like to have anything else, please bring it along.

As far as food, we’ll be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, baked beans, veggie tray, chips, cookies, etc, etc. We should have everything covered!

    Raindate?

Sunday, October 2nd with the same schedule.

Right now, I’m assuming that everyone registered is coming as (1) person. If you’re not going to attend the cookout and will just meet us in Corolla… or if you will be bringing someone along, please drop me a quick email so I can be sure we have enough food.

If you have any other questions, please email me! I’ll make another post towards the middle of next week with our final updates.

Hi Everyone – I’m finalizing the details for our walk and I’ll have an update posted in the next few days. I did get an email asking if we were still proceeding in light of Hurricane Irene damage. There are no large issues north of Oregon Inlet that would impact us, so we’re still planning to proceed on 10/1 at Currituck Heritage Park. More in just a few days!

    Thanks!
    Matt
