Photo Walk Description

This year I’ve planned a walk through Chicago’s most famous architectural cemetery – Graceland. Louis Burnham (The Rookery amongst others) is buried here – as are others in tombs he designed – Marshall Field, Charles Dicken’s brother who passed away in Chicago…. lovely landscaping – a pond, an island, and unlike Rosehill, still photography is allowed here. We’re right near Wrigleyville so after a walk in the park we can wander up Clark and we’ll rest our feet amidst more traditional urban sights and grab a bite to eat whilst we compare shots. Easily accessible via the “El” – details to follow. Come join me!

Wow – less than two weeks left! I’m excited to meet you all and am hoping the weather is good for us –

I’ve heard back from Graceland and they’ve made a couple of requests – the rules there are no tripods so please leave those at home or cleverly disguised while on the grounds – If you have a chance before the date please check out the website and have a look at their standard rules –

I’ve also spoken to Yakzies – a Wrigleyville grill that’s family-friendly & normally hosts Cub-fans or college football crowds – they’ll be happy to see us and grill up lunch for us after we’re done – they’re at http://www.yakzies.com/wrigley.html so have a look at the menu in advance if you like. – If the weather is EXCEPTIONALLY nice we could all just mill around one of the Wrigleyville hot-dog stands & keep it outdoors – but I thought it would be nice to sit down for awhile after all that shooting – we can take a vote on the day – that’s it for now – send me questions if you have ‘em!

Be sure to have some cash on hand for Yak-Zies since credit cards are not accepted there. (They do have an ATM there, but be willing to pay their ATM fee and your own bank’s fee.)

Signed up and very excited. Camera & Lenses clean and ready. See you all there. :) Forecast for the walk as of 9/26 calls for a chilly start to the day with sunrise temperatures in the lower 40s. Abundant sunshine allows readings to warm to the mid 60′s and Partly cloudy skies. (WGNTV.com) Can you tell I’m excited? Have a great week.

Is there parking any where close to there? I live in the suburbs and will be driving in? I know there is not a cubs game so I am hoping I will be able to find a spot suggestions?

Have a look at the map – or pull it up on Google maps – there is some parking right outside of Wrigley Field which is just down Clark – and there’s also a parking lot on the far side of Graceland, however I’m not sure whether that’s Public. I’m sure there is street parking but that will be on a first-come basis so it’s up to you – I heartily recommend mass transit – you can catch a Number 9 bus from the Clybourne Metra Station – try this –

Graceland Cemetery have made a specific request that we not use their parking lot so I believe that’s quite limited.

  5. Marian Todd says:

Deadline for submission – OK Everybody – The deadline for submission is 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 7th – so make sure you’ve gotten your best shot in through the photowalk page before then. I seem to remember some problems last year on the last day so I encourage you to get it in a day or so earlier than that if you can. I’ll be picking the winner from our walk between the 7th and the 10th – That lucky(no wait – highly-skilled and artistically gifted!) individual will get a copy of Scott’s “Light it – Shoot it, Retouch it” book – and go on to the worldwide competition – .

    Best of luck to all!
    Marian

    Marian,

I wrote to you a couple of days ago requesting an invitation to enter the contest on Flickr, but I received to no response. Please send it to me.

    Thanks!

    David

Wow! I just signed in again here, and see that my ‘head in a clear spot’ shot was picked!!! Thank you! (I don’t really know where else I am supposed to post – I don’t have any other emails?)

    Thanks!
    Pam

  8. "Boris" says:

    Congratulations Pam!
