Photo Walk Description

Welcome to the 2011 Photo Walk! My name is Mikelin Van Dyck, second year Photo Walk leader, and I am really excited about this year’s free event. Last year’s walk was in my home town of Sunnyvale, but I chose Capitola this time as I am passionate about the beach and the ocean. Whenever I head to the beach, it is always to Capitola.

I will be posting more detailed information about our walk soon. However, we will cover Capitola Beach, including the surrounding businesses, as well as the Capitola Wharf. The posted start time is just an estimate and I will firm this up soon also.

As always, this event is FREE! All you need to invest is your time and the desire to have fun meeting others photographers! All skill levels are welcome, as well as all types of cameras. We all can share tips, tricks and learn something new from one another. Regarding equipment – bring whatever you are comfortable in carrying around for about 2 hours and remember you will be in the sand (wet and dry).

  • How to upload your "best of" shot for the contest - Due by 9 AM October 10th!

    Good news everyone! Below is the information I just received. I am also posting the directions on our site. Please follow the directions provided to upload your “best of” shot the site by Monday, 10/10!! Good luck!

    So all they need to do (if they wish) is… (see below)… If anyone has any difficulties, do ask them to contact me directly and I will assist them.

    Hello-

    Here is a brief tutorial for uploading your photo.

    (If you are not logged in, start at step one. Otherwise jump to step 4)

    1- Go to your photo walk page.
    In a yellow box, above the map, you will see “Registered walkers upload & share your best photo from the walk!” and a button that says “Log-in to Start”
    2-Click the “Log-in to Start” button
    3- a pop-up window appears and you enter your username and password.

    ((If you are already logged on))

    4- Once the page reloads, you will see “Upload Your Photo” with a yellow box containing directions for uploading your photo. (located again, just above the map)
    5- Follow the directions in the yellow box.

    Regarding File Size:
    1. One image per walker per location
    2. 1000px on the long side @ 72 dpi
    3. Max file size is 1MB

    That should do it! Good luck in the contest!

  • Photo Album and Contest Information

    Hi everyone! I want to thank all of you for coming out this morning. It was really great getting to know you and spending the day photographing.

    I have created a Picasa album titled Worldwide Photo Walk 2011-Capitola. I have attached the link. What I need you to do is, to send me an email (scenesbythesea@gmail.com) from the gmail account you wish to upload to Picasa from. I will then grant you the permissions necessary for you to begin uploading your photos. Please add a caption to your photos and include your first and last name. For the photo that you want to enter into the best of contest, please add “Best of” into your caption.

  • Tomorrow is the day!

    Tomorrow is the day so how will you recognize me? I will be the short gal in the oversized WWPW Leader sweatshirt. Last year the t-shirts ran small and I did not expect the sweatshirts to be true to size. Oops. =) I will be in front of Zelda’s restaurant by the outdoor patio area.

    Do not forget to charge your camera battery, pack an extra flash card or rolls of film, wear comfortable shoes, bring a pad of paper and pen and / or business cards in case someone would like you to email them a photo you have taken. Still no rain in the forecast, but it will be cloudy and cool.

  • Are you ready for Saturday?!?!

    The weather is suppose to be pretty good, but recommend wearing layers just in case. Also, do not forget a bottle of water. If you have any questions before Saturday morning, please let me know. If you are unable to make the walk, you will be missed, but please go to the website and remove yourself from the walk.

  • Walk update and the after the walk meet up location

    Hi everyone~
    Just a quick update. Our walk will begin at 9 AM, so I recommend that we all meet in front of Zelda’s Restaurant at 8:45. Parking – bring coins for the parking meters. The parking around the esplanade is 2 hours only and then you are required to move you car. There is also a couple pay lots around the esplanade. Parking up the hill is 4 hours.

    I thought it would be fun to do a photography scavenger hunt. On the day of the walk, I will provide everyone with a list of photo ideas for us to create and capture. After the walk, we will meet up at Armida Winery Tasting Room for free wine tasting! Please have your photo ID if you plan on tasting.
