Photo Walk Description

Pearce Estate park is a 20+ hectare piece of land situated alongside the Bow river. The walk will tour through the park and with a little luck the fall colours should be in full force creating outstanding visuals.. Donated to the City of Calgary in 1929 by William Pearce and now consists of ponds and streams, playgrounds, the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery and Bow Habitat Visitor Centre. Bring your camera and imaginations!

  • Upload you photos!!

    Hello Photo walkers,

Thank you for coming out to the walk Saturday; it was very nice to meet everyone.

Remember you have until October 14tth to submit your image. There will be one local winner, whose photo will be entered into the World Wide Photo Walk international competition. If you need help you can check out this helpful video. It gives you some tips on tuning up your images.. Towards the end of the video they show you how to upload your image to the website. http://worldwidephotowalk.com/submitting-your-best-photo-to-the-contest/ If you change your mind you can change your photo up to the deadline on October 14.

For those who wish to share their photos from the walk they’re two ways.

    1. Share you photos with the other members of the local photo walk in our very own Flickr group. You can access the group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw2013calgary/ I have loaded a few images of some of the photographers hard at work so you might just see yourself. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the wonderful images taken.
    2. You can also add you images to the world wide group on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw2013 Since there is thousands of images there I would suggest you post your photos to the local group as well as world wide group. That way your fellow photographers in Calgary won’t miss seeing your photos.

Good luck to all, it was a pleasure to have you join the photo walk,

    Howard.

  • This years walk just a few days away!

Hello photo walkers! This years World Wide photo walk is only a few days away so here are a few updates and tips to help make your walk a success.

After the walk we are meeting at Without Papers Pizza (WOP Pizza), they are located nearby in Inglewood. The address is 1216-9th Avenue SE, the restaurant is located upstairs. You can check them out online at www.wopizza.ca.

Here are a few tips and things to remember for the walk.

Batteries, batteries, batteries!!! Remember to charge your batteries in your camera and accessories. If you use regular batteries then be sure to bring a spare set. There is nothing worse that running out of power in the middle of a shoot.

Memory cards and film. Make sure you have lots of room on your memory card and if shooting film a few extra rolls just in case.

For those who might be using a new camera and unfamiliar with some it this would be a good time to pull out the manual and get to know your camera. You will enjoy the walk much better if you are comfortable and confident with your equipment. But remember, if you happen to set something and cannot get it reset don’t be afraid to ask for help, after all that is one of the advantages of having a group.

Warm clothing. Our walk starts at 10:30 am, the weather forecast for Saturday is looking pretty good but it will be on the cool side. Dressing in layers will help by allowing you to remove clothing as it warms up.

Gear check! Before heading out do a quick gear check. My suggestion is to take a couple of photos around the house or yard before jumping into the car. This will allow you to make sure that everything is working well and give you the chance to go back for anything you might be missing.

Remember to submit your best image of the day to the competition. One local winner will be chosen and that photo submitted to the international competition. There are prizes for the local winner and for the international winners.

The most important part of the photo walk is to have fun and connect with other photographers so don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to the other walkers.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday morning!
