Photo Walk Description

We will meet at the Musgrave entrance, approx.15 minutes before the walk. We will walk down Musgrave Rd, towards Silverton Rd, and turn into Silverton Rd. At the old Essenwood Rd intersection, we will turn right into Essenwood Rd, go past the centre and up towards the flea market. We can get some lovely people shots around the market. There after, we would go towards Sydenham Hill. We turn right and walk down Sydenham Hill. turn right into Curry Rd. At this point, we can get some beautiful scenic shots of Durban, including the famous stadium. Go all the way to Grants Grove and turn right. At the Musgrave intersection, we will see the centre once again.

    Hi Jeffrey

Is this going to be the only walk in Durban this year ?

    Kind Regards,
    Deon Calitz

  2. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Deon,

This is the first walk for Durban. A second walk could begin only when the first walk has its full compliment of 50 walkers.

I decided to do this route, because the beachfront around the Moyo pier was done last year, and we all enjoyed the walk. I wanted something different, and thought that with this route, we get to see all the different buildings, and the high view point we have of the city centre.

      Hi Jeffrey

      Thanks for the reply!

I dont mind the route, and im always open for anything, so im sure it will be a great walk.

      See you there !

      Kind Regards,
      Deon Calitz

Hi Jeffrey and Deon. I just moved here from Cape Town and am looking forward to meeting some Durban photographers and getting to know the roads you speak of above.

  4. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello Anastacia,
These roads are in the Musgrave area of Durban. This area is very close to the Tollgate bridge/The Musgrave Centre, and near the Botanical gardens.

  5. Kierran Allen says:

Anastacia I dont see you on the Attendee List???

    • anastacia haddon says:

  7. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello fellow walkers,

I have contacted a few photographic outlets for sponsorships. So apart from the winning entry going to compete in the world wide contest, we might have a few goodies for our group to look forward to. Keep checking back regularly for the prize updates.

  12. Andre du Toit says:

    Hi Jeffrey

    What’s happening Bro.?

The walk is only one day away and we’ve not heard a word from you at all!

Is it still all systems go????

    Cheers,
    Andre du Toit

  13. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello fellow walkers,

Yes its all systems go for the walk on Saturday.

Wee will all meet at the Musgrave entrance to the centre at approx 08h45sharp. We will do a roll call and discuss a few rules we should adhere to, and then we will get going.

Anyone who has a tripod or a mono-pod should bring it along. With that, charge your camera batteries, and even your flash batteries. (since we may capture some candid people shots at the flea market. Carry enough memory capacity, so you can shoot without worrying about running out of memory.

Remember, this is a photo-walk, foremost, and the reward is enjoying the walk and taking photos and chatting with fellow participants with similar interests. We should encourage sharing knowledge with fellow walkers who are not familiar with either their equipment, or even the genre of street photography/landscape photography.

After the walk, we will meet at the food court opposite Wimpy. I have made arrangements with the manager of Wimpy to accommodate our needs.

Till Saturday, good luck all in capturing “THAT WINING SHOT”

  14. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello all walkers,

I am sure you all will agree that we had a fantastic time today. I enjoyed the camaraderie-ship we received from all our fellow walkers. I had a lot of you coming to me and complimenting me on doing a sterling job I did organising and also coordinating this walk. Thank you all for those encouraging words. It sure gives me satisfaction, knowing I met the needs of all those who did the walk today.

Now lets see those images that we captured today. You can post them on http://www.flickr.com/groups/1795426@N23/. remember if you are not a flickr user, you will first have to register and then you will be allowed to load images and also be allowed to comment on the images of fellow walkers.

    • Jenny Reid says:

Jeffrey, thank you for a wonderfully organised walk, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Can you advise if there is a number and size limitation on the photos we upload.

  15. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello Fellow Walkers,

You need to submit your best photo that you took on Saturday. Remember that you are only allowed to submit one photo. To make it fair to every one, images should be 1024x768pixels for landscape format shots. and max 800 pixels for the height for portrait format shots.
I am going to allow you to use Photoshop or any other editing software to your hearts content, when editing the photo, because this competition is being run by the best Photoshop guru.

The closing date for submissions is 19h00, Friday, 7th October 2011.

If you have any queries please call me on the cell number I sent out in my email to all of you this afternoon..

  16. Andre du Toit says:

    Hello Jeffrey,

Why is your submission date now at 19:00 on October 7 when the website says October 10 @ 12pm EDT?

I’ve uploaded my entry but there was no acknowledgement that it was received.

Can you please confirm that it is entered please.

    • Jeffrey Govender says:

      Andre,
your image does not appear on the submissions page. Please re-submit on the official KZN page where you originally registered. See below my latest comments.

  17. Jeffrey Govender says:

    LATEST NEWS UPDATE,

the deadline for the submissions has been extended to 19h00 on 10 October 2011. So now you have a few extra days to edit and submit.

Please use the scott kelby kzn page to submit your images, if you have not done your submission yet. Just above the map, is the login for your submission. Remember this is the only page where your submission counts as an official entry. The Flickr page is used for us to submit many images which we want others to view, but it is not the official submission page.

For those who have already submitted, and feel you want to change your pic, you can remove your first pic and resubmit your new pic.

  18. Jeffrey Govender says:

Just a friendly reminder, only Karen, Shane, David, Dawn and Farla has submitted images to the competition. Please don’t judge yourself as not taking a worthy image on the day. Leave that to me for the judging, because what you might find not good enough, may be a winning image. So everyone, should submit an image so you can be in line to win the new book from Scott. Good luck everyone.

  19. Jeffrey Govender says:

    Hello fellow walkers,

I want to thank all of you who entered an image into the competition. I together with another camera club judge did the judging of all submissions and I must say, we had a really tough time picking the winner. There was quite a few contenders, but eventually, we agreed that Michael Sands image deserved the winning title.

    Congrats Michael.

Once again thank you all for participating.

    Jeffrey

  20. Deon Calitz says:

    Congrats Micheal!!
    Awesome picture!!

Hope to see you all at the next walk in 2012…

    Kind Regards,
    Deon Calitz
