Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

Ok, so I’m Christopher O Driscoll, a commercial photographer here in town, NAPP member and a member of the Barrie Camera Club.

My idea for the route this year is to have everyone meet up at the Spirit Catcher. From there, take a walk up the old railway line towards Johnsons beach and return to downtown by roadway. Going along the railway will afford you the opportunity to shoot some lakeside photos, and returning by road, you will be passing by some of Barries century houses, with some unique architecture. Depending on how fast you walk, and linger for photos, if you get back to town early enough, perhaps you’ll have enough time left over to shoot some of the changes downtown Barrie has seen in the past year.

At 5pm, when the walk ends, we all meet back at Stix for some refreshment and a chat about how we did

Tips for the day:
Check what the weather is likely to be, and dress appropriately. If it’s going to be a warm day, don’t forget that sunscreen!!
Bring plenty of cards for your camera, make sure your batteries are charged and maybe have some spare….

  • Update

Hey folks, we have the biggest group yet for the worldwide walk in Barrie this year. Thank you all for taking part.

Tomorrows weather looks like being cloudy with spells of sunshine….temp of 26°C | 18°C, I just want to remind people that you’re going to be outside walking from 2pm til 5pm…please dress appropriately and don’t forget sunscreen. Bring bottled water or another beverage, to keep yourself hydrated. We will be meeting at the Queens hotel following the walk for drinks, and food should anyone care to order.

As we’re walking for a bit by the waters edge, although the water isn’t that deep there, I would still urge people to use caution and have a care. A flickr group has been set up for you all to share the photo’s you take on the walk, please feel free to join it and share your creative side with everyone, http://www.flickr.com/groups/1446081@N24/ Also, NAPP have set up an official Worldwide Photo Walk Flickr group where anyone who takes part in the Photo Walk can share up to five images per day; http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw3

    For those of you that have registered and wish to enter the contest, here’s what happens;

Photo Walk contest submissions will open on Sunday, July 25 and close July 31.

Here’s a short two-step walkthrough for submitting your best image to the Photo Walk contest.

Step 1) Go to WorldwidePhotoWalk.com and log in (look at the top right corner of the page)
Once you’re logged in, you’ll automatically go to your Photo Walk page.

Step 2) Once there, you’ll see a section called “Upload Your Photo” below the Meeting Location & Time (not today or tomorrow, but it’ll show up on Sunday):
Just follow the on-screen instructions and you’ll be good to go!

Each walker is allowed to submit one image to the contest. The deadline to submit is July 31. If you change your mind on which image you want to enter, you can change it up until the deadline. After that, walk leaders will have till August 7 to choose the winning image from their walk. They won’t be able to make a selection until after the submission process is finished.

All of those winning images will then be posted in the People’s Choice gallery where everyone can vote for their favorite shot during the following week.

Then, on August 14, NAPP will announce the Grand Prize, Honorable Mentions, and People’s Choice winners.

Are you required to submit an image to the contest, or to share photos on Flickr? Absolutely not. If you just want to have fun taking pictures with fellow photographers and making new friends, then we’re all for that!

so Polish your lens, charge your batteries, empty for memory cards and happy shooting

  • New meeting venue after the walk

Ok, its now official. As we have so many people on the walk, Stix was a little impractical as its a little on the small side, so instead we’ll be meeting at Queens hotel after the walk. Drinks are good, food is excellent….and theres lots of room indoors and outdoors.

  • Possible change of meeting venue after walk

Its not confirmed as yet, but the venue to meet up after the walk may be moved to the Queens patio area, as its better suited to larger numbers. I hope to have a final decision on this within the next day or two

In your Meeting Location and Time it says to meet at the Spirit Catcher.
But in your Photo Walk Description it says to meet at Heritage Park. Which one is it?
    Thanks.

    Hi there

    Thanks
