Photo Walk Description

First off, let me say that I’m NOT an expert photographer. I just love photography and know what I like for myself. But I really thought there should be a walk in the valley somewhere – it’s too beautiful not to photograph! I hope that the more experienced and knowledgeable on the walk will help out the others, and I’ll bring some photography books too! We’re going to start later in the morning to allow people from farther away (like myself) to get here – I’m hoping we’ll have more than just the AR locals on the walk! I’ll be wearing a grey t-shirt with a big white head on it, and the cowboy hat you can see in the photo here.

This is my plan: We’ll meet by 1045 at the start of the boardwalk near King’s Theatre – across from the pub and the market. That will give us a chance to talk about the day and answer any questions so we can start the walk right at 11:00.

Our first stop will be across the street to photograph around the farmer’s market. From there we’ll actually get on our way. We’ll walk down the boardwalk and across to Ft. Anne, wander through the grounds of the Fort and through the graveyard to the courthouse. From there we’ll cross the street and make our way back to where we started to end up at the pub. If we get back early, there’s lots that can be photographed in the area, or even by following the road down a bit toward the O’Dell Museum. At 1pm we’ll meet up at the Olde Towne Pub for food and/or drinks and to chat about our day. If there’s a lot of us we’ll go upstairs (have to buy your drinks at the bar; no food). They also have wifi for those that want to upload pics right away or connect in other ways!

Speaking of which, make sure to upload your photos from the walk to our flickr group

It’s a small loop around the ‘downtown’ area of Annapolis Royal. But it covers everything: a market, water, landscapes, architecture… If you’re from out of town, I strongly suggest planning to spend the day and explore the parts we had to skip!

If you would like to join us, please sign up on this page so we can get accurate numbers – you’ll also be eligible to win a prize! Click “Join this walk” and/or check out the FAQ for more info (link at the top of the page). Feel free to contact me with any questions! You can contact me through this page, connect with me on Twitter (@AuroraLee) or visit me on Flickr. I look forward to seeing you on the 1st!

Great idea Justine – see you there.

  2. Lois Jenkins says:

Justine – No luck signing up. Keep getting messages that my email address already registered.

  3. Lois Jenkins says:

I just got an email that my registration went through, so we’re good.

  4. Justine MacDonald says:

Lois & Grant – so sorry I missed your comments! Yes, you’re both registered! Other people have reported the same problem. I don’t know why… See you Saturday!

  5. Grant Lohnes says:

Stupid question from someone who’s not terribly familiar with the town and can’t parallel park to save his life:

Does the lot behind the pub/farmer’s market usually fill up on Saturday mornings? If so, are there any places nearby that are good alternatives?

Looks like we’re still forecast 5-10mm of rain, hopefully that clears off.

  6. James B. says:

Looking forward to taking part in the photowalk!

    I’ll see you all tomorrow!

It was nice to meet everyone today. Thanks for coming to our little town. I do have a blog but it tends toward local history but there are a number of my pictures that get mixed in.

    Justine,
Are we supposed to post links to images in this box or am I missing a spot to upload?

Hello fellow photowalkers – That was quite the experience yesterday. I’m thrilled it happened in my home town (thanks, Justine) and glad I could take part. My photoblog entitled “Wildlife at the Annapolis Royal Marsh” can be found at:

  13. Lois Jenkins says:

I was only able to upload one photo. Anyone else have any success uploading more than one??

  14. Justine MacDonald says:

Sorry I haven’t been around much or commented on anyone’s photos (or uploaded my own). I have added everyone’s sites to my bookmarks or readers. I think the rain didn’t like me as much as I liked it.

Looks like you can only post one photo to this site so make it your best! The rest you can share on your blog or flickr, if you want!
