• last pre-walk update

  Dit is mijn laatste bericht voor de wandeling van morgen om alle details op een rijtje te zetten. Ik wil zeker weten dat een aantal zaken duidelijk zijn van tevoren:

  Startpunt.
  We starten buiten voor het station. Als je naar het station kijkt helemaal links staat een fietstoren. Daarnaast is een trap naar perron 1. De taxi’s verzamelen daar ook om mensen op te pikken. Er is daar een flink stuk stoep om te kunnen verzamelen. Ik zal net zo’n groen shirt aanhebben als op mijn profielfoto zodat ik nog makkelijker te herkennen ben.

  Eindpunt.
  We eindigen in grand cafe ‘Amstel Hoeck’ op het Waterloo plein. Dit is een tent die groot genoeg is en die naast koffie ook voor een lunch kan zorgen. De manager vroeg me van tevoren een beetje op te geven wat mensen willen zodat we niet anderhalf uur op de bestelling van 30 mensen zitten te wachten. Ik kan dat morgen ochtend nog doorbellen dus als je me dan wil laten weten of je daar gebruik van wil maken zou dat fijn zijn. De lunchkaart is nogal uitgebreid en de broodjes zijn dat zelf ook (en de prijs helaas ook) dus het is makkelijker zelf de kaart even te bekijken op http://www.amstelhoeck.nl/kaart.php Persoonlijk vind ik de broodjes echt te duur en zal waarschijnlijk zelf een boterham smeren voor onderweg. Bekijk dit voor jezelf en laat het me weten voordat we vertrekken. (eerder mailen mag ook)

  De wandeling zelf.
  We zijn met een grote groep en het is erg belangrijk dat we de veiligheid in de gaten houden. Niet alle straten zijn even breed en wanneer we echt alleen maar om ons heen aan het kijken zijn op zoek naar mooie plaatjes kunnen we het verkeer in de stad nog wel eens vergeten. Let dus ook een beetje op elkaar a.u.b.
  Andere veiligheid heeft te maken met het weer. Het gaat prachtig zonnig worden en waarschijnlijk ook behoorlijk warm dus let op bescherming tegen de zon en neem voldoende water mee voor onderweg.
  Verder heb ik er ontzettend veel zin in en het lijkt me een unieke ervaring om dit te gaan doen. De voorbereidingen zijn voor mij al een feest dus met jullie enthousiasme en goede zin daarbij opgeteld wordt het morgen een topdag!
  Vragen zijn nog steeds via mail te stellen, morgen ochtend kun je me ook bereiken voor en tijdens de wandeling op 0642417789, de route is te vinden op flickr (zie vorige bericht en update op de site) al hoop ik wel in zoverre bij elkaar te blijven dat mensen niet heel erg achter blijven en van de groep verwijderd raken.

  This is my last message before the walk tomorrow to highlight the last details.

  Starting point
  We will gather outside Amsterdam Central Station. When you face the station, on the far left is a cycle tower. Next to it are stairt to platform one. In that corner we will gather and I will be wearing the green shirt I wear on my profile picture so it will be more easy to spot me.

  Endpoint.
  We end at grand cafe ‘Amstel Hoeck’ at the Waterloo plein. Thsi place is big enough for our group and it also has the opportunity to order lunch if you would like to. The manager would like us to pre-order that so if you want, take a look at the menu http://www.amstelhoeck.nl/kaart.php and let me know if/what you want so I can call it in tomorrow before we leave.

  The Walk.
  We have a big group and I want to make sure everybody is safe the whole time. We cross some narrow streets and we will be busy looking around so please don’t forget about the traffic and keep an eye out for each other too!

  It will be pretty warm and sunny so don’t forget protection from it and bring enough water to keep yourself hydrated.
  I am realy looking forward to it and I hope you are too so this will be an unique experience with a lot of fun, good pictures and new friends.

  Hello everybody.
  I created the flickr group for everybody to upload their best pics after the walk. From that group I will pick the winning picture so make sure you have an account (it’s free and easy). • Not just for those who speak Dutch

  Since Amsterdam is the home to 187 different nationalities, it is a bit unfair to just communicate in Dutch. I got an email with the question if there was room for an English speaker. And the answer is of course YES! I will be updating this site in Dutch and English from now on so everybody who understands one of those languages can be informed and ready for October 1st!

  Quick update so far: I’m still working on the route because there is a lot to see and I’ve checked it out twice now and I lose track of time and distance when I do so. I will be doing some fine tuning in the next week or so and then I will post it.

  Voor iedereen die dit niet kon volgen (al kan ik me daar weinig bij voorstellen) nog een korte toelichting in het Nederlands. Omdat Amsterdam 187 nationaliteiten in huis heeft is het een beetje oneerlijk om alleen in het Nederlands te communiceren, vandaar dat ik vanaf nu alle updates in het Nederlands en in het Engels schrijf.

  Hallo allemaal, ik ben ontzettend blij te zien dat er al een aantal mensen hebben ingeschreven voor deze editie van wwpw. Ik ben nog bezig met de route omdat er veel moois te zien is en wanneer ik in de buurt wandel raak ik de tijd en de afstand een beetje kwijt. Om toch te zorgen dat we ongeveer twee uur onderweg zijn zal ik de preciese route pas plaatsen als die klaar is.

   Hi Pieter,

   Looking at the route it seems very long distance to cover. The Jordaan alone is plenty of space to spent several days. Would it be an idea to cap the walk to the Jordaan area instead of setting up a route like you are planning. This approach will allow people to find their own way and pictures instead of getting more of the same.

     Hi Don,
     Thank you for your feedback.
     I think the route is a choice, nothing more, nothing less. You can spend an entire day in one single street and shoot interesting pictures. I get your point but I wanted to make this walk interesting for all kinds of photographers. And therefor I will stick to this route.

       Please translate your starting point in English so there is no confusing with my walk !!
