Photo Walk Description

Note: The Official Worldwide Photo Walk Date is July 24th, 2010

The official Flickr group for this walk is http://www.flickr.com/groups/wwpw-adelaide/

Note: the map can’t quite capture the walk as it’s not fully via the main roads but pedestrian zones.
We’ll start off at the Rotunda and then cross over King William Street and walk between the Parade Grounds and Government House to Kintore Avenue. Then up towards North Terrace and back toward King William Street. Past government house and down to Festival Theatre. Then over to the Convention Centre and back up to North Terrace. We’ll finish off at the Skate Park.

  • Weather

Just checked the 10-day forecast – it’s looking good for next weekend. So fingers crossed it’ll stay that way. If not then we’ll have to think of something else (depending how bad the weather ends up being). Options include moving the walk to Sunday or the following weekend. But let’s hope we don’t have to do either of these (or worse).

  • Parking

Just to let you know that free parking is generally available not far from the starting point – outside the Cricket grounds (Victor Richardson Road) is a good spot on the weekends.

  • Magic half way mark

Well, we’ve hit the magic half way mark and kept on going. It would be an understatement to say that we’re over half way to 50 walkers! I certainly didn’t think to get this much interest … but it’s exciting. Thanks also to those who’ve already let me know about lunch – currently have 7 walkers plus myself going. If you haven’t let me know yet and you want to go then best to get in soon as I’ll need to confirm numbers by the Wednesday before the walk.
Also, if you’re looking for resources on photography, then I can highly recommend Chris Marquardt’s podcast at Tips from the Top Floor (http://www.tfttf.com/).

  • Photography Tips

I just watched the latest instalment of Marc Silber’s show “Advancing Your Photography”. It was the episode “Photowalk with Thomas Hawk – Photography Tips & Advice” (http://www.silberstudios.tv/videos/thomas-hawk-photowalk).

I found this really interesting, specially to see Thomas take some shots of architectural features (some of them rather abstract). Anyway, for those coming on the walk this might come in quite useful as we’ll have plenty of opportunity to do something similar.

  • Video anyone?

I’m keen for someone to capture the walk and the walkers on video – either with a video camera or a DSLR. If you’re keen on this and are able to do some post production work then please register for the walk and let me know.

  • Restaurant after the Walk

After checking out the route today I dropped in at the Strathmore Hotel on North Terrace. I’ve made a booking at Cafe 129 for about 12:30-13:00, that is, after the walk. Would be great if you could join me for lunch. Can you please let me know via email (from the website) if you’re coming to the lunch?
The lunch menu can be found here: http://www.strath.com.au/dining/cafe-129/cafe-129-lunch-menu

  • Updated walk route

Last week and earlier today I had a wander around the area to finalise the route for the walk. I think I’ve got it all sorted out. I think the main features around the walk will be architectural and there are lot of statues and some monuments. We’ll also have some chances to get some land/cityscape images (over the Torrens and surrounds). We’ll finish off at the Skate Park on North Terrace and this should give us some opportunities for some sports shots. Let’s hope the weather is as good as today!
