Photo Walk Description

Welcome to the official page of the Canberra leg of the Worldwide Kelby Photo Walk. My name’s Rob and I’ll be your host for this year’s walk. For those who don’t know me, I’m a Canberra-based part-time photographer who shoots mainly landscapes, streetscapes and portraiture. Feel free to see some of my work at www.robcrispe.com. I enjoy meeting other photographers and sharing ideas and knowledge, which I find to be a great way of learning and getting inspired!

This photo walk will be held at Canberra’s Floriade exhibition in Commonwealth Park. The best parking is located on the western side of Commonwealth Avenue, off Albert Street onto Barrine Street. The plan is to firstly meet at the outdoor concrete foyer area beside the Canberra Business Event Centre, and from there we can enter Floriade and explore the world of flowers and colour! Once we’re done, we will meet back at the Floriade food market for lunch, which gives us a chance to debrief and enjoy a bite to eat.

For those inclined, once we’ve finished lunch we will be walking up Commonwealth Avenue into town to shoot streetscape, traffic and city photos. This leg won’t be counted towards the official photo walk, but it’s an opportunity for us to make the most of our time together.

What to Bring:
1. Your camera, of course! Don’t forget to charge batteries and empty memory cards.
2. A tripod, for those who are inclined.
3. An umbrella and raincoat if it’s a cloudy day. Should the rain come down, there may not be many places to take shelter!
4. Water and snacks, in case you need some replenishment during the walk (although you’ll be able to purchase food and drink inside Floriade).

I’ll post more information as needed in the lead up, so keep visiting this page for updates! I look forward to seeing you all there.

  • Ideas and inspiration for the Floriade walk!

    Hello again!

While I’m at it, I thought you all might like some additional ‘familiarisation’ to Floriade, by way of the official website:
    http://www.floriadeaustralia.com/

Apart from some background information, there’s some gallery photos which may provide some inspiration and ideas ahead of Saturday.

Also, don’t forget that there’s a photo competition at the end of the walk. You submit your photos via this website and I then get to choose the winner (and no, I can’t enter as well!). The winner receives a digital copy of Scott Kelby’s Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers, plus eligibility to be considered for the Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk grand prize!

More information on prizes can be found here:

See you all Saturday (rain rain, stay away!)

  • Update on this Saturday's Floriade photography extravaganza!

Calling all Canberra Kelby Photo Walkers!

    Hi guys.

Firstly, thanks to those who responded to my message last week about lunch…I appreciate you letting me know your intentions for lunch.

Secondly, I regret to advise that The Deck Restaurant is fully booked for a function on that day, so instead I’m proposing the food market inside Floriade (just beside the main Regatta Place entrance) as a place where we could each grab something enticing and then make our way to the Stage 88 grassland (only a short stroll from the market) for a casual picnic-style lunch. How does that sound? If we can find some outdoor tables, even better…but as a backup plan, let’s go with Stage 88 for now.

If anyone has an alternate suggestion for lunch, more than happy to hear it.

Thirdly, judging by the latter part of this week, we could face some inclement weather, so don’t forget to pack an umbrella if the forecast isn’t looking favourable into the weekend. I don’t have an alternate location earmarked in the event of bad weather, so if anyone wants to make a suggestion then fire away! Otherwise, let’s do our best and try to make the most of it, come rain or shine!

Lastly, if anyone still wanted to venture into Civic after lunch to do some street photography, that is an option but it won’t be counted towards the Kelby Photo Walk. Depending on the weather and how we’re all feeling after lunch, I propose we play it by ear if everyone’s happy to do so?

I think that’s it for now! If I think of anything else, or you’d like to ask me any questions, don’t hesitate and I’ll do my best to answer them promptly before Saturday. Otherwise, see you all just before 9:30am at Regatta Point!

    Cheers
