A Message From The Walk Leader
Hello everyone,
I am excited to be the Vestal, NY leader this year of the Worldwide PhotoWalk. This year’s walk will take place on July 18th from 6 –8am at Binghamton University’s nature preserve located behind the University. The nature preserve is quite large with over 180 acres of mountain behind the university, including over 20 acres of wetlands. It is home to many animals including deer, beavers, fox, mink, muskrats, porcupines, and other mammals . There is also a diverse amphibian and reptilian population, and over two-hundred bird species, one of the widest ranges of birds in the Southern Tier of New York. It has many different habitats including a hemlock forest, oak woodlands, a beaver pond, streams, wetlands, shrub-land, meadows and lichen-covered dry sites. It has as a vast number of maintained hiking trails that we will be using for our photowalk. It has also a wooden footbridge that might be a great place to take some photos of the wetlands and the pond. To read more in detail of the different area of the nature preserve go to this link:

Following the walk, we are meeting at the Plaza Diner just up the Vestal Parkway from the campus for some breakfast and review of the walk.
For everyone attention:
Those signing up should meet at lot M on the west side of the campus and go here for the trail map which also shows where to park here . Be sure to meet 15 minutes before our scheduled leaving time of 6:00 am. There is a limit of 50 people for the walk, so please sign up early. Since the number of people on the walk is limited, signing up to join this group means you will expect to be there, baring any very unusual circumstances. If you any questions, feel free to contact me at matt@matthewcard.com. I look forward to meeting all of you and expect that this walk will be a good opportunity to meet others with an interest in photography.
FAQ’s about our Photo Walk through Vestal (Binghamton Nature Preserve):
You do not need to be a professional to attend.
A disposable 35mm camera will work just as well as the greatest and latest camera out there. A digital camera would be best if you want to share your pictures with everyone after our walk. This walk is for all levels of photographers and it’s for all of us to have a great time shooting.
.
Make sure not to carry too much gear because it can get heavy over time. Remember to dress for the weather so make sure to keep an eye on the weather a few days before the walk . If you want to bring a snack or something to drink please feel free to do so.
One of the most important things is to be courteous and respect the property of Binghamton Nature Preserve. Since this is a public walk and it maybe be crowded. Respect fellow photographers and give a clear shot when necessary.
Since we expect to have photographers at different skill levels, be a good photographer and help others who are less experienced than you are during the walk. This walk should be a great opportunity to learn from each other and have a great time doing it.
Safety, Safety, SAFETY – I can’t stress this enough, watch your gear all the time and be sure to secure your cell phones and wallets. We would like to minimize potential problems that could mar your fun during the walk. Whatever or wherever you shoot, please put your safety and the safety of others first. It is easy to get so involved in photographing that you forget about your environment. Watch your equipment – although most people are trustworthy, there are some that are not and could make a quick get-away with your equipment left unattended.
I’m doing another walk in Binghamton, NY from 7:45- 9:45pm if you intersted check it out here http://worldwidephotowalk.com/binghamton–ny-ny-usa/

Had a great time doing this walk. Cant wait to do it again next year. It was great to get together with so many other photographers. I hope we can do it again soon. Thanks for organizing the event Matt.
Much kudos to Matt for organizing the Vestal photo walk. I enjoyed myself and I would hope to follow this up with many photo walks to come. Unfortunately, I won’t be making it to the Binghamton photo walk tonight, since I will be attending the photo walk in Schenectady. Also, if anyone is interested in taking a look at my set of photos from the photo walk, you can go to…
