A Message From The Walk Leader

Just wanted to send out a quick follow-up to everyone about the fantastic Photowalk I enjoyed with you all on Saturday evening. I only wish I had the chance to spend time and get to know even more of you during our short time together, but then again I am sure it won’t be our last. Couple things I wanted to remind everyone about - and also share:
  • You have till July 25th to pick 2 of your favorite photos from the walk and upload them to the Worldwide Photowalk page for judging. Remember there are some great prizes - and you just never know what the judges will like - so please everyone participate. Even if its your first contest you ever entered - there is always a first for everything!
  • Here is a link to instructions on how to upload:  http://worldwidephotowalk.com/uploading-your-photos/ There are two different methods, an export preset for those who work with Lightroom, or a direct upload link on the site.
  • One of our fellow photowalkers, Robert Dickinson, set up a Flickr - Tempe Photowalk Group Pool page where we could all share photos with each other. I have never used Flickr - but decided to try it out and set up an account last night to participate in the group. Super easy and it will be a lot of fun to see photos (different perspectives, styles, buildings, storm, life) from the walk - so please join and upload some of your favorites into the pool to share with all of us. Here is a link to the group on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1181291@N23/pool/
Thanks again everyone! Please stay in touch - and let me know if you come across any other fun photog gatherings….

Sincerely,

Trevor Dayley

P.S. If anyone happened to grab a photo of me in action I’d love to get a copy for my webpage or Facebook page. I’d be sure to give you credits on the photo. Gracias!

————————————————————————————————

Hello to all you photographers out there interested in participating in this incredible world wide event. I look forward to participating and leading (if that’s what you call it) in the Tempe, AZ walk as we peruse down the fantastic Mill Ave. While of course I am open to any suggestions that would make this walk even better as we get closer to “game day” here is what I have put together so far.

We will start from the ever impressive Tempe Center for the Arts - which by the way has plenty of parking at no cost. From there we will walk the bike path along the lake by the bridges, over the old train tracks, and onto Mill Ave. We will get the chance to experience some of the most photogenic buildings in Arizona (I swear buildings can be photogenic). We will get a mix of the old (factories, brick restaurants) as well as the new architecture. In addition, because I love portrait photography, I will be putting a request in to bring with us some models, maybe a family or two, possibly even a bride and groom if I can get my hands on some. My goals is to make the experience one where photographers of all skill levels will have tremendous opportunities to take all different kinds of photographs and enjoy learning from each other while we are doing it.

This photowalk is for photographers of all skill levels and all kinds of cameras. I don’t want anyone to feel under equipped to attend. If shooting with a small point shoot camera suits you best, bring it. This is not the kind of gathering that photographers feel like they need to show off their latest greatest lens - its more about joining together in the spirit of camaraderie to share what we all love - which is shootin’ photos. I also look forward to learning from others, while at the same time showing off a few tips and tricks of my own to those who are interested in learning.

This walk is a “move at your own pace” walk. For those who want to rush ahead, or meander down dark alley’s - you are welcome to do so. Our ultimate goal is to have fun, shoot lots of photos, and meet back at the end to share some rockin’ photos with each other (end location is still up for grabs, so if anyone has a great suggestion - feel free to holler!).

In closing here are a couple of FAQ’s:

1. Does it cost money? NO. This is a completely free gathering of photographers who are out to have fun.

2. Is this happening anywhere else? Absolutely. This is a worldwide photowalk with to date over 750 walks scheduled worldwide. That said the Tempe walk will clearly be one of the best ones, right, wink, wink!

3. Can I win anything? You bet! There will be a contest with some serious prizes, judged by the ever famous and fabuloso photog, Scott Kelby. You do not have to participate in the contest, but you might as well, you got nothing to lose.

4. What should I wear? 3 wolf’s howling at the moon shirt and jean shorts. No only kidding. Wear whatever you want. Just remember it will be July in Arizona.

5. Besides my camera, should I bring anything else? You might want to shove some money in your pocket for food and / or drinks at the end. It’s entirely up to you. Feel free to also bring whatever camera gear you would like (i.e. tripods, flashes etc.)

6. Where are we meeting? We are meeting at the Tempe Center for the Arts, front of the building facing the parking lot. I plan on starting the walk at 5:45pm, so please plan on getting there a little early. If you arrive and you don’t find us just take the walk along the lake path towards Tempe Beach Park and then up towards Mill Ave. Guaranteed you will catch up with the group.

7. If I have any other questions, who can I contact? Feel free to give me a buzz directly - Trevor Dayley - 602-635-6007 - or click the CONTACT LEADER link up above underneath my photo to shoot me an email.

SO… register now and mark your calendars to be part of this incredible worldwide event. In fact the buzz on the street is that Guiness World Records is reviewing the event as a possible entry - I suppose it would be for the largest gathering worldwide on one day for the bunch of crazy photographers. Finally my chance to leave a legacy in Guiness (well that is if they except the entry…) See you on July 18th!

P.S. If anyone is interested in hanging out afterwards and doing some night photography of the bridge and down Mill Ave (second walk of sorts) - I would be game for that as well. How cool would that be!
