A Message From The Walk Leader

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH ONE MORE TIME AS THERE IS AN IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING THE MEETING TIME.!!

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the new Worldwide Photo Walk, through the Mission District in San Francisco.

This will be a “walk through the park”, an easy, convenient and a very colorful experience.

For easy and secured access we will start at Civic Center  Park, where there is a BART station near by, so you do not have to hassle with parking and be able to arrive there on time. So leave your vehicles at home and use public transportation from anywhere in the greater bay area. We will end near Dolores Park, which is within walking distance to either 16th and or 24th BART Stations if you want to keep shooting, however we suggest you stay with the group.

In our walk, you will have a complete blend of different cultures and communities within this unique huge neighborhood. You will see different stages of true San Franciscan architecture and a wide variety of true cultural diversity, which makes this city such a wonderful place to live and visit.

Prepare to see the historical Mission Dolores, which was the corner stone foundation of this metropolis. Plan to shoot the best samples of Victorian architecture and a blend of European cathedrals ranging from Scandinavian to Old Spanish churches.

We will merge into the pop culture of graffiti and gothic fashions as we walk through Valencia Street, Which is a more progressive style area.

As mentioned, we will end our walk near Dolores Park, and from there you will have enough time and freedom to go back and cover any areas that you want, or join us for a bite to eat at the affordable Pancho Villa’s Taqueria -OR_ we can go to muddy water caffe, (free wi-fi) near 16th and Valencia, just a block away from 16th station.

Things to bring: Your photo gear (do’h); batteries, walking shoes; light clothes and a jacket or sweater (just in case), bring plenty of water. Also, bring your good humor and excellent attitude.

Things to leave behind: Excessive clothing or heavy objects; drugs or alcohol, weapons and any negative attitude or poor behavior.

Aproximate budget:

Bart ticket: $10.00

Chicken Burrito with soda: $10.00

Latte: $5.00

Bottel of cool water $ 2.00

Please check for train schedules as they run differently so you are not left behind. BART SCHEDULE

rough route

Hi Everyone

I am pleased to see our roster is almost full, as we are almost a month away from our Sunday stroll through the Mission.

I have a “rough” route, however very close to the real actual walk on July 18. Which by the way, please double check your calendars and double make sure you will be available on that day. Once we lock this group, we will turn away many other applicants and it would be a shame that we have no shows on that day. I honestly do not anticipate this would happen to our group, because I know we are going to make a very robust difference as we show America this very special area of San Francisco.

I’ve also created a flickr account open to the public in order to generate some great ideas as we start to get closer and closer. Feel free to upload and generate feedback so that our group “feels” like a group.

Simple rules guidelines and suggestions to a fun, creative and safe walk

By Rig GalvezSan Francisco’s Mission District Walk Leader.

1)      Travel light; do not bring any excessive or unnecessary bags that will get in the way of creativity.

2)      Bring a bottle of water with a strap or belt clip.

3)      If you have, any medical condition please let some one know and have all emergency contact numbers handy.

4)      Please show courtesy and respect towards your fellow members of the group, as they may desire their own space for thought and creativity. Have your cell phones on mute or vibrate and kindly let your callers know you will return their call.

5)      Wear bright colors and please pay attention to traffic, as any authority will not escort us.

6)      (I have to say this) please do not bring dogs, friends, children, or significant others who have not being registered.

7)      I will scout the route for public “rest room” facilities, but try to “go potty” before we leave just in case.

8)       When and if you plan to take pictures of people in the street, please consider reading: http://www.flickr.com/groups/onthestreet/discuss/72157594185425298/

9)      If you have sensitive skin, do consider wearing UV block or suntan lotion.

10)  Have a theme in mind and plenty of memory in your camera. AND LET’S HAVE A LOT OF FUN!!

UPDATE + IMPORTANT +

Hi everyone!

I’ve received several requests to move the time to an earlier window. Because people have other engagements that they forgot in the afternoon and desire to be free, if it was one or two I probably would not make this motion, but there are nearly nine people, so it is important to consider it this late in the game, lest someone should decide not to attend.

I have no problem with that at all; some asked if we could meet at various times in the morning. I propose to meet at 10am. The walk is approximately 2 hours plus a half an hour meeting at “Pancho Villa” taqueria on 16th.

Please contact me with any comments, questions or suggestions. In addition, we should have a waiting list in the event there are a couple of no-shows.

So far, I have four requests:

Jaime C.

Charles V.

Antonette M.

Rosalyn R.

I look forward to see you SATURDAY JULY 18 AT 10 AM and apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, but in light of democracy and harmony, here we go.

MEETING POINT: SAN FRANCISCO CIVIC CENTER PARK (SEE MAP)

THANK YOU!!
