A Message From The Walk Leader

Marshfield: Rich in history; rich in natural beauty; rich in great photo opportunities.

Join us at our starting location, the historic Winslow House.  We will meet at the front entrance at 3:30 pm and informally tour the house and grounds. The photo opportunities are endless! Apart from the historic beauty inside the house, there is an herb garden outside, a blacksmith’s shop and Daniel Webster’s Law Office.  We’ll then proceed through a wooded shortcut (part of the Pilgrim Trail) to The 1835 Marcia Thomas House, once the home of Marshfield’s first historian, and now the home to the Marshfield Historical Society and the Museum of Marshfield History.

We’ll loop back down the road to the Winslow School House, built in 1857 and used until 1910.  Crossing the street , we end up back at the Winslow House. Rumor has it that Penelope Winslow’s ghost sometimes appears between 4 and 5 pm.

When we return to the Winslow House we’ll “chimp” and share images and comments about our photographs. People with all levels of photographic skill are welcome to join us. This isn’t about competition; the Photo Walk is designed to be a fun, social photography outing.

The Worldwide Photo Walks usually end at restaurants. Ours will be a little unique. The Winslow House is hosting its annual New England Lobster Boil that evening. Some of us will be remaining there for that event - and possibly more photo ops. (If you’d like, you can sign up for that in advance with the Winslow House, too.) The Winslow House’s Executive Director and I are asking the caterer to offer a lowered priced lighter meal, so that price won’t be a factor, and we can all gather, enjoy our photography and good times together.

Oh, one more thing. Marshfield: Rich in summer traffic. Allow yourself extra time and patience to travel Route 139 in the summer. Depending upon the time of day you may face a little traffic backup. It’s really not bad if you plan for it, and it’s well worth the trip.
