A Message From The Walk Leader

Update: Wednesday, August 24, 2009 - 9:00 am - International Winners Announced & Lansdowne Photowalk Screening scheduled!
Here’s the 2009 Photo Walk winners!

Hello Lansdowne Photo Walkers,

The date is set… Mark your calendars for Sunday evening, September 20, 2009 from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. You are invited along with your friends, family and Lansdowne residents to see your photographs projected on Cinema 16:9’s Really Big Screen. So far, 12 participants have submitted about 200 photographs for the screening. Thanks to everyone who has sent in their images. They look great.

There’s still time for the rest of the Lansdowne Photo Walk participants to send in your images. The instructions follow below, but if you have any technical questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.

John Green

Lansdowne Photo Walk Screening at Cinema 16:9 - Sunday September 20, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Please submit up to (20) twenty images for projection on the “big screen.” The photos will be from the Photo Walk or other Lansdowne images you have shot at other times.

The requirements are simple:

Resize your images so that the largest side is no more than 1600 px. and save it as a jpg. Rename each photo using this convention: First initial, last name, a 2 digit number, .jpg

Please no spaces, hyphens or other punctuation in the file names! Here’s an example: jgreen01.jpg, jgreen02.jpg, jgreen03.jpg, etc. Substitute your first initial and last name and you’re good to go

We need you to do this so that we can identify your photos and give you the “screen credits” you deserve.

Then upload your photographs to the following gallery:

http://gallery.me.com/johnkellygreen#100427 You’ll see an upload icon right under the page header. You can select more than one image at a time to upload.

Please upload your images by August 31, 2009.

Update: Friday, August 26, 2009 - 9:00 am - UPLOAD DEADLINE TOMORROW!
Update: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - 1:00 pm - Upload Your Best Two Photos! Yes, there’s only three days left to enter your Lansdowne Photo Walk images into the competition. Login and upload 2 images and make sure you’ve resized them to 1 meg or less as a jpg. You can see the images uploaded so far by your Lansdowne photo walkers, by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.

Walker Alert! Would “E Burke” please contact me. We downloaded 2 photos onto my computer on Saturday. I need your contact email. You can email me HERE!
Update: Sunday, July 19, 2009 - 1:00 pm - A great turnout on a beautiful day! Thanks to all 35 of you who helped make Lansdowne’s first Photo Walk a great success. We were able to take a peek at some of the wonderful images you shot yesterday, and are looking forward to seeing the rest.

Photo Upload Deadline: Saturday July 25, 11:59 pm EST. For now, you have 6 days to select your favorite 2 photos to upload via your WWPW login page. It seems that the online process will not allow anything over a 1 megabyte (thats 1 M or 1000 K) compressed size to be uploaded. So be sure to resize your images down to that max size or you will receive the dreaded “error in upload” message that goes no further to explain itself. Please contact me if you have any problems with the process. It would be best if you could include your phone number and a good time to get back to you.

Obviously, you all took more than 2 photographs, so don’t think we’re not interested in seeing more of them. I will be letting you know very soon of a local website, where you can upload 20 more Photo Walk images, for our evening showing at Cinema 16:9, on the big screen, date and time soon to be announced.

Bill Patterson will be organizing the September galley show at Regency Cafe as soon as we get all your photos uploaded. Details are forthcoming.

Update: Friday, July 17, 2009 -5:00 pm -Here’s a few last thoughts before we head out for tomorrow’s Photo Walk:

1. The weather forecast is improving, with rain through the night but clearing before tomorrow morning. Good news, but please be prepared for all eventualities.

2. We have two walks planned, of varying length, but if the weather turns, we’ll probably stick to the walk closest to our starting point. Maps will be provided for all, especially you independent minded photographers.

Photographer Bill Patterson will lead one group down wooded Scottsdale Road to Hoffman Park and Darby Creek, returning through one of Lansdowne’s oldest neighborhoods. Its about 2 miles in length.

I’ll take the historic, Victorian route past the 400 year old sycamore tree and then on to beautiful Victorian neighborhoods, churches and finishing at the Lansdowne Farmers Market. This walk is about 1.7 miles long but has a number of shorter alternatives for the foot weary.

3. All digital photographers are different in that some process images through post-production tools such as Photoshop, Aperture and Lightroom while others prefer their photos straight À la carte and do not enhance their images. Tomorrow after the walk, we’ll take some time at Cinema 16:9 to take a look at some of your out-of-camera images. Those who process their images have a whole week before uploading their images to the competition.

All Photo Walkers will have one week from tomorrow to select your 2 best images and upload them to the Lansdowne Photo Walk page. Here’s a helpful link: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/uploading-your-photos/

See you all tomorrow at 8 am

Update: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 - With less than three days until the Lansdowne Photo Walk on Saturday July 18th, things are looking good. Thanks to Bill Patterson, a Lansdowne photographer and co-planner of the walk, we’ll be having a month-long photo show in September at Regency Cafe, consisting of Lansdowne Photo Walk images.

We’re also hoping, with your consensus, that an evening showing of everyone’s favorite photos at Cinema 16:9 in the near future. Everyone who participates in the walk will be able to invite their friends and families for a digital slide show on the big screen.

Today would be a good day to check your equipment.  Whether its a point and shoot or a fancy digital SLR, make sure its ready for Saturday with fresh batteries, memory cards, lens cloths and whatever else you want to bring along.

Here’s some thoughts about Saturday’s walk from Scott Kelby.

See you bright and early on Saturday morning!

Announcement - Everyone with a digital camera is invited to join us for a morning photo expedition on July 18, 2009. Beautiful, historical Lansdowne, PA will present some great photo opportunities for our World Wide Photo Walk . Part of our walk time will overlap with the town’s weekly Farmer’s Market, which is always full of colorful vendor tables and lots of shoppers, children, and canines, and opens at 9 am. Lansdowne is home to three historic districts with many styles of Victorian era homes, two and three hundred year old trees, many Gothic churches and a Frank Furness designed railroad station. The Darby Creek cuts through a swath of forest on the edge of town for those who favor landscapes.
The Lansdowne Theater
We’ll meet up under the old Lansdowne Movie Theater marquee at 8 am to begin our photo adventure.  Don’t worry about your conditioning; we’ll have “walks” suitable for any age or shape. We’ll finish up the walk at 10 am next door at Cinema 16:9 to review the photos on 20″  iMacs and, time permitting, on the theater’s big screen, from 10 am until noon. Food will be available at Cinema 16:9, next door at Regency Cafe, nearby Mission Burrito and across the street at the Lansdowne Farmers Market.

Yes, there’s been talk of a followup screening night at Cinema 16:9, when you and your guests will be able to view your best photographs on the big screen. Let’s talk about it on Photo Walk day.

Here’s a link to some great info about Photo Walks!
