A Message From The Walk Leader
We’ll meet in front of the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, tour the small Niles District, stop at the annual dog show, and see Rancho Arroyo Park.
Niles District:
Historic Niles is a district of Fremont that is famous for railroads and movie-making. The town has a railroad museum and a silent film museum. Movies starring Charlie Chaplin were filmed here at Essanay Studios in the early 1900s. The town is also known for annual Antique Fair in August and the Niles Canyon Railway, which offer rides most Sundays of the year. This is not a very busy, modern city with new buildings; they have kept the historic look of the main street.
Photo Walk Info:
We will be meeting in front of the Essanay Silent Film Museum, a tribute to the Essanay Film Studios. If you would like to explore the museum, pleaese arrive earlier and visit the museum before the photo walk begins.
From here, we will walk along Niles Blvd, and then turn to head south to Community Park, located at 3rd Street and H Street, where Niles is holding its annual Niles Dog Show from 9-3pm. I think Best in Show will be awarded at 2pm, so I hope that we can get there before then.
We will walk around the Community Park and continue to walk around the nearby Rancho Arroyo Park. There is a lake here and probably a good chance of shooting waterfowl and people.
Our path will loop back to where we met, ending at a pizza shop, where people can grab a bite to eat.
Winning photo from the walk:
I chose this photo by Godfrey DiGiorgi to submit as the best in the group. Thanks everyone for submitting photos!
