If you took part in the World Wide Photo Walk, tune in today to a special free, live online workshop from 10:00-11:00 am EDT featuring Scott Kelby on post processing the images from your walk using Adobe’s new Lightroom 3. To access the webcast, just click here and sign in with your Photo Walk site username and password.

Scott wanted a fun way to reconnect after the walk, and you’ll see exactly how he edited the images he took during his walk, and the workflow he uses to make the process quick and easy. If you don’t have Lightroom 3 yet, you can download a free trial version from Adobe at this link right here. Also, you should have gotten an email with a code for a 15% discount off a new purchase of Lightroom 3!

Scott will be taking your questions live during workshop, along with a few of “The Photoshop Guys” here at NAPP HQ to help out as well, so it should be a lot of fun.

If you can’t tune in live, the webcast will be made available for viewing online as soon as we can get it posted!

Photo Walk contest submissions will open on Sunday, July 25 and close July 31.

Here’s a short two-step walkthrough for submitting your best image to the Photo Walk contest.

Step 1) Go to WorldwidePhotoWalk.com and log in (look at the top right corner of the page)

Once you’re logged in, you’ll automatically go to your Photo Walk page.

Step 2) Once there, you’ll see a section called “Upload Your Photo” below the Meeting Location & Time (not today or tomorrow, but it’ll show up on Sunday):

Just follow the on-screen instructions and you’ll be good to go!

Each walker is allowed to submit one image to the contest. The deadline to submit is July 31. If you change your mind on which image you want to enter, you can change it up until the deadline.

After that, walk leaders will have till August 7 to choose the winning image from their walk. They won’t be able to make a selection until after the submission process is finished.

All of those winning images will then be posted in the People’s Choice gallery where everyone can vote for their favorite shot during the following week.

Then, on August 14, we’ll announce the Grand Prize, Honorable Mentions, and People’s Choice winners.

So where does Flickr play into all of this? Since this is a social event, we want you all to be able to share your images with the world! The contest we do here doesn’t really lend itself to that, so we’re suggesting that you share your shots on Flickr.

We’ve set up an official Worldwide Photo Walk Flickr group where anyone who takes part in the Photo Walk can share up to five images per day. Your leader may have set up a Flickr group just for your location too.

Are you required to submit an image to the contest, or to share photos on Flickr? Absolutely not. If you just want to have fun taking pictures with fellow photographers and making new friends, then we’re all for that!

Hope that answers the questions a number of you had about this. Happy Shooting!

Step 1) Go to WorldwidePhotoWalk.com and log in

Once you’re logged in, you’ll see your Photo Walk page.

Step 2) Just above the map, you’ll see a button that says “Leave This Walk.” Just click that, and it will un-register you for that walk. If there’s a waiting list, the next person on it will automatically be moved up to the main list.

If you see the Join This Walk button instead, you’re either not logged in or are on the wrong Photo Walk page.

Your leader can not remove you from the walk. It’s something you have to do yourself. If you’re unable to participate, please take a minute (literally) to unregister yourself so someone else can have the chance to participate.

If you wish to change walks, you’ll need to leave the walk you’re currently registered for, then you can join a different one.

We’re only four days away from the big day! There are over 1,100 photo walks taking place and over 28,000 people participating! Couple of things to address real quick…

If you can’t make it – Make sure you sign in to the Photo Walk site then go to your walk page. You can remove yourself from a walk by clicking the button just above the map:

Please do this so that the next person on the waiting list can take part in the walk.

Submitting contest images - All images for the contest will be submitted on this website, not through Flickr or any other website. Each walker will be able to submit one image, their best from the day. We’ll have a more detailed walkthrough of this later in the week.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t upload images to Flickr though. You can share your photos with the official Worldwide Photo Walk group, and with people from your own group if your leader has set one up. You will need a Flickr account to share images here, so if you don’t already have one you can sign up for free here. Just remember… Sharing images on Flickr is for fun and being social, not for the contest.

That should help a lot of you out who’ve been asking about these things. Happy photo walking!

For those of you who may not be familiar with the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), I thought I would ask executive director Larry Becker to write something up for you to help explain what exactly it is and how it may benefit you. Not only did he do that, but he’s offering a special deal for $15 off the membership fee and a free DVD!

NAPP Is for Beginners Too

One of the primary sponsors of Scott’s Worldwide Photo Walk is the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP). I wanted to take a minute to tell you a little about NAPP, not only because they’re a primary sponsor (not to mention Scott is NAPP’s president) but because the name might be a little misleading. NAPP is actually an international association with members in more than 105 countries, and it’s not just professionals. It’s full of beginners to Photoshop and Lightroom.

In fact, there’s a beginners’ section of the web site with all kinds of tutorials just for people who are new to Photoshop or Lightroom. Another thing beginners love is that they can get any Photoshop or Lightroom technical question answered within 24 hours (usually in just a couple hours) as part of membership. NAPP also has one of the friendliest forums anywhere, and there’s even a beginners’ forum where no question is too simple, and there are lots of new friends waiting to help. One other thing that beginners tell us they love is that almost all of the tutorials are written “recipe style.” In other words, the tutorials are step-by-step instructions for getting various effects or results in Photoshop or Lightroom and beginners and experts alike can tackle the effects by just following the steps.

Really, NAPP is a Photoshop and Lightroom training company that happens to be an association. When people join, they have access to the single largest collection of Photoshop and Lightroom tutorials in the world. And because NAPP is an association, they also do things like provide discounts on hardware, software and travel services, unbiased pre-purchase advice about computer gear and photo gear, and members get an award-winning magazine (Photoshop User) 8 times a year, a monthly electronic newsletter with even more videos and written tutorials, reviews, and industry news, plus access to private live webinars and archived webinars, a comprehensive video manual of every single menu item and feature of Photoshop and Lightroom (called H.E.L.P.), and more new benefits all the time.

What’s really amazing is the incredible value of all these services. It’s just $99 a year! (Outside the US it’s $99 with the magazine delivered electronically or $199 if you have the magazine shipped to you). And once people discover all the services, discounts, training, and advice, they renew their membership year after year. In fact, NAPP is the largest image-related association on the planet and has more than 70,00 members.

So if you shoot digital, your darkroom is Photoshop or Lightroom, and NAPP is where the best trainers in the world teach people how to use their new darkroom and answer questions from beginners and experts alike.

And since we know that there are a TON of beginners on the Photo Walk, we have arranged for the absolute best pricing for NAPP membership ever offered, PLUS free a bonus DVD (normally $69.95). Just swing by the special offers page here, and the very first offer has all the details about the best NAPP membership price in our history! (But hurry, this offer is over within a day of the Photo Walk).

Larry Becker
