A Message From The Walk Leader

Welcome to the “Durham and/or Chapel Hill” photowalk! I think both areas are interesting and offer many good places for photography. Let’s try Durham!

We have two hours to ramble about, starting and ending together, but proceeding as we wish, individually or in groups of varying sizes. We’ll meet at 10a and finish up at noon. Please stay for lunch to discuss the shoot and anything to do with (or not!) photography!

Let’s meet at the beginning of the American Tobacco Trail at the intersection of Blackwell Street and the South Service Road West, opposite from Mellow Mushroom and the baseball park. Parking should be available just west of Mellow Mushroom in the American Tobacco Campus parking garage or on-street. Please gather behind the signpost there well off the bike path.

We will take a very short walk up the trail to get some shots of this beautiful trail that eventually will be part of the Eastcoast Greenway, connecting Maine to Florida. We’ll plan to be back to our starting point 15 minutes later to pick up any latecomers.

On to the lovely American Tobacco Campus! It should present some nice opportunities to get images, including of the waterway there as well as the brick and landmark water tower. We will then amble over to the historic Carolina Theatre on Morgan Street.

A short walk brings us to Brightleaf Square, where we can photograph the shopping area. Lunch will beckon then, tentatively at El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant there in Brightleaf.

Let me know if you would instead prefer to walk another few minutes and eat at Whole Foods, perhaps photographing a bit of Duke’s East Campus, as well. If we get a large group, I have given a heads up to Vita, the cafe next to Parizade on Main Street, and should be able to arrange lunch there. I’ll publish final lunch details as we get closer to the date.
