Barbados Photowalk with Ronnie Carrington
The Old Train Line - Bathsheba to Bath - is the venue for the Ronnie Carrington led leg of the Barbados Photowalk. Our meeting place is in front of the Bathsheba community centre on top of the hill at 5:30 am.
This picturesque area on the East coast of Barbados is part of the route of the defunct Barbados railway which was decommissioned around 1945. A footpath follows the shore line along our route of about two miles, meandering through untamed territory, covered with russet coloured sea-grape leaves for much of the way.
The Atlantic breakers collide with giant coral sea stacks, covering them with blankets of white foam while little crabs scurry around in a frenzy. Just off shore at intervals, stand eroded iron stakes, remnants of the support structure for the tracks. Most of the railway tracks had been shipped back to Britain once the railway closed.
Our walk could take us two to three hours depending on how much we linger along the way but it will be in the cool of the morning. Come rain or shine (except there is a flood) our adventure will go on, so please bring rain gear - for your cameras of course.
I have organized for a coach to bring us back to Bathsheba at a cost of $10 per person.
