A Message From The Walk Leader
Hello everyone,
I am excited to be the Binghamton, NY leader for this year’s Worldwide PhotoWalk. The walk will
take place on July 18th from 7:45 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. The walk will begin at Metrocenter, 49 Court Street in Binghamton, and will continue down Court Street east past some of Binghamton’s most historic and magnificent architecture. Binghamton has some very interesting buildings from the 19th and early 20th century including the Courthouse and the Perry Building, both of which were designed by Isaac G. Perry, a famous architect from Binghamton.
Another historic piece of architecture we will see is the Press Building, a magnificent building detailed with an unusually elaborate display of Victorian exuberance. This building was designed by T. I Lacey & Son and was one of the founding places of the local newspaper which later became the Press and Sun - Bulletin. Next we will walk past the Security Mutual Building, another building designed by T.I Lacey & Sons. Here if you look up, you might see some of the Peregrine falcons that live atop the building. We will continue down Court Street past some churches and to Broome Country Library.
After making a right hand turn down Jay St. toward Columbus Park and onto the Exchange Street Bridge, you will have wonderful views of the Rock Bottom dam, the Park Diner and the Susquehanna River. We will continue down the river walk on the south side of Binghamton towards the South Washington Street Bridge, where we will have views of both bridges, the river, plus the Binghamton cityscape along this part of our route. After we cross the South Washington Street Bridge, we will be at Confluence Park where the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers meet.
After stopping at Confluence Park for pictures we will head back towards Metrocenter, passing the Broome County Arena, the State Office Building and the new downtown SUNY Center. We will then be at the official end of our walk. After the walk ends at Metrocenter there will still be several activities that people may enjoy including watching the fireworks which will be displayed from the Binghamton Mets Stadium on Henry Street or later enjoying some drinks and food at the Park Diner.
For everyones attention:
Those signing up should meet at the Metrocenter 15 minutes before our scheduled leaving time of 7:45 p.m. There is a limit of 50 people for the walk, so please sign up early. Since the number of people on the walk is limited, signing up to join this group means you will expect to be there, baring any very unusual circumstances. If you any questions, feel free to contact me at matt@matthewcard.com. I look forward to meeting all of you and expect that this walk will be a good opportunity to meet others with an interest in photography.
FAQ’s about our Photo Walk through Binghamton:
You do not need to be a professional photographer to participate in the walk.
A disposable 35mm camera will work just as well as the greatest and latest camera out there. A digital camera would be best if you want to share your pictures with everyone after our walk. This walk is for all levels of photographers and it’s for all of us to have a great time shooting.
Make sure not to carry too much gear because it can get heavy over time. Remember to dress for the weather so make sure to keep an eye on the weather a few days before the walk . If you want to bring a snack or something to drink please feel free to do so.
As always it is very important to be courteous and respect people and property of Binghamton. This is a public walk and it maybe crowded, so we will all need to watch out for fellow photographers as they try to get the best shot. If you are photographing individuals remember to ask their permission. For children you need to get their parent’s permission. This is a worldwide photo walk and we really expect that this group’s photographs will showcase Binghamton.
Since we expect to have photographers at different skill levels, be a good photographer and help others who are less experienced than you are during the walk. This walk should be a great opportunity to learn from each other and have a great time doing it.
Safety, Safety, SAFETY – I can’t stress this enough, watch your gear all the time and be sure to secure your cell phones and wallets.
We would like to minimize potential problems that could mar your fun during the walk. Whatever or wherever you shoot, please put your safety and the safety of others first. It is easy to get so involved in photographing that you forget about your environment. Watch your equipment – although most people are trustworthy, there are some that are not and could make a quick get-away with your equipment left unattended.
Please note: You will be able to park at either the Water Street ramp (by Boscov’s) or in the Metrocenter.
I’m doing another walk in Vestal, NY from 6am-8am if you are intersted check it out here http://worldwidephotowalk.com/vestal-ny-usa/

Matt did a fantastic job organizing this walk. I learned a great deal about tripod utilization in low light situations. The walk covered many different shooting situations and showed that Matt had given a great deal of thought to the route we covered. I hope that we can get together before the next “Worldwide” event.
The Binghamton 2nd Annual Scott Kelby Photowalk went off better than expected with about thirty people participating. The local news channel did report on the walk. A video of the walk can be found on Youtube:

Thanks to Matthew Card for all his hard work organizing and Marketing the walk too. He organized two walks on Saturday the July 18th, the first at the SUNY Binghamton Nature Preserve with 17 in attendance in conjunction with the evening Binghamton walk which had 30 people.
If you are interested in seeing the photos which have been taken for both walks please look at the follow sites:

Thanks again Matt for all your hard work and looking forward to next year’s walks.
I had a great time yesterday it was great to meet so many other local photographers. I hope this can be a more regular thing. I exchanged emails with a few people from last night and hope that more people would be interested in getting together more often. Thanks Matt for organizing the walks.
The Binghamton walk went off without a hitch. Having local news coverage only added to the experience. It was nice to meet and conversate with other members with such varied skill levels. Everyone was helpful and believe me I learned so much about shooting at night, like bring a tripod next time, haha. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did and look forward to following most of you on Facebook or Flickr or even next year when we do it all again.
