A Message From The Walk Leader
Latest update: July 1. See bottom of page.
This section of the 2009 Worldwide Photo Walk will travel from the East Coast Road just to the South of the Cove Restaurant, through Cattlewash, Bathsheba and High Rock and finish at Tent Bay.
This will take place on Saturday, July 18th 2009, starting at 6.30 AM. Please be there and parked by 6.15 AM.
The walk is open to anyone - with or without a camera (any kind of camera, even a phone), and is free to join. (We may get tee-shirts printed, but not sure about this yet).
The organizers have lots of prizes, including one for the photographer who produces the best shot from each walk. The top 5 photographers in this walk will also receive discount vouchers for printing services from ArtBeat. Having said that, no-one actually has to enter any contest, you can just come along for the fresh air and exercise.
If you’re going to come, you DO need to register through the link at the top of the page.
If you need any more info, you can email me via the email link at the top of the page.
In addition, should you be interested but rather go somewhere else, there are two more walks being led in Barbados; one by Ronnie Carrington, from Tent Bay to Bath along the old train line route: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/bridgetown-cc-bb/ and one led by Andre Williams in Speightstown:http://worldwidephotowalk.com/speightstown-and-going-north-lu-bb/
Update - Jun 18th
What to bring: (apart from a camera, that is)
The route will cover somewhere around 3 miles. If we were simply walking, I would think we would cover the distance in a bit over an hour. With time for shooting etc. we should be done in about 2.5 hours, maybe a bit more. Since we are going to be walking the whole way, and carrying whatever we need, we should consider our gear carefully. Here’s my take on this.
Lenses: If you’re shooting with a DSLR, you will no doubt want to bring more than one lens. Think carefully about this. I am considering 2 lenses, a 24-85 zoom and a 100mm Macro.
Tripod: I don’t think so on this trip. By 6.30 it should be light enough that you won’t need one for most shots. I’ll probably put mine in the car just in case it’s heavily overcast.
Memory cards: Yes, please. Make sure that you have enough memory available.
Food & drink: definitely water and something like granola or other bar. Lots of water.
Rain gear: At least for the equipment. I don’t really mind getting wet, but my camera doesn’t like it. At least bring a plastic bag or two to cover things with if it should decide to pour. And remember that foul weather makes for great photography!
Clothing: Wear sturdy shoes - hiking boots are best, but good sneakers will work. Sandals and slippers WILL NOT. Apart from that, anything that you’re comfortable in.
Most importantly - Bring a good attitude. We will all be there because of an interest in photography and being outdoors, let’s all enjoy it.
